    You are the best Carl. You are straight and to the point when replying to questions. Many times the questions have already been answered in the video but you are never rude to point that out. Every time I watch a video of yours I learn something new or just a better way of doing something. Inspiring. Motivating.

    How do you clean your filter pads now? You foamed in all that rock around the tray. I just threw some floating plants in my tray and then rocked up to the Biofalls edge. Thats what I always wondered if I planted it or added rock to that tray how the heck would i clean my pads without having to dismantle the rock or replant everything.

    Great video. You have several I’ve watched and enjoyed. I built my own small Koi pond and learned the hard way many things I’ve done wrong. What it appears is you really need to spend a LOT of money when doing stuff like this. The bigger the pond the larger and more expensive it is obviously. Now my question is this. I’m assuming the one hole on the bottom is the pump feed while the other is hooked to a waste line. Do you put a big bag of bio balls or lava rock on top of the filters ? Also I would think on any pond that a bottom drain is best for Koi. I’m guessing you’d need a skimmer pump unit at the opposite end of the waterfall and then a separate outside magnetic drive pump for the bottom drain. This could go to another spillway too. I guess it’s all relative to the size of the pond and the amount of fish you want. Sigh …..Oh to have a ton of money . One last question , is lava rock better or as good as a mixture of ceramic pieces ? Thx. Keep the info coming.

    • @ColumbiaWaterGardens
      @ColumbiaWaterGardens  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for your questions!! 😀
      These questions are worthy of a video! I'm thinking I have enough questions on content to do a live podcast and answer the questions on them. 😀
      I'm a supporter of lava rock and ceramic, not of bio balls. Reasons are the production of beneficial anaerobic colonies inside the lava rock as well as ceramic.

      @@ColumbiaWaterGardens I have another question if you would. My pond is fairly new and to be honest I should have researched videos before doing anything. That being said I’ve learned things the hard way. Of course there is also a lot of indirect info out there. So I’d like to ask you about putting aquatic plants in. I just recently put in a few plants . I removed the soil from the roots and placed in a perforated pot with some pea gravel and 2 fertilizer tablets. Is this ok or should I have left the soil on them. Your video showed how putting the potted plants right in the pond made for muddy water. I also read somewhere where a little soil added is actually good to create bacteria? So I’m a bit confused.
      Additionally I made a huge mistake from not knowing any better and added too much algaecide and it killed the few small Koi I had because it took away too much oxygen out. I do have a spitter and two air stones plus a waterfall so I was surprised it happened. I researched to find an algaecide that wouldn’t harm the beneficial bacteria. However because I was too anxious to get rid of the green water I put in too much apparently and took out too much oxygen. I’ve since pumped out all the water to get a fresh start. I wanted to change up the rocks on the bottom and get rid of all the muck. So now I need to wait till I get the bacteria to colonize again. What would you recommend to get it going fast. I think I saw some kind of super bacteria to use. Anyway sorry for the novel. In addition to my other skills I’m also a writer. Lol

    beautiful work my man... I do have a question though, I'm currently building my own NSP and was wondering if you have any pump content for me to learn from. Nope. You pull out the lava rock bags and as you pull out the filter pads they will fold a little and make it out. It's really easier the MORE you lock in the boulders to the rock tray.

    Carl, Thanks for the great tips. I'm building a pondless waterfall using the Aquascape waterfall starter. I and don't like the look of the large hole at the top of the falls and want to hide it. I've seen examples where water is bubbling up out of small rocks much like a natural spring. I've contemplated putting hardware cloth over the opening covered it with small stones. What would be your advice there? Thanks in advance for your response.

    • @ColumbiaWaterGardens
      @ColumbiaWaterGardens  3 роки тому +1

      Recess the spillway 3 feet further back from the top of your waterfall rock. Taking an aquablock a panel, cut the panel to cover the outlet of the spillway and foam into place. Cover with gravel and edge the liner appropriately.

    • @ColumbiaWaterGardens
      @ColumbiaWaterGardens  3 роки тому +1

      Wrong..... it doesn't need to be broken apart.
      The media bags are easily lifted out and the filter pads bend.
      We have serviced, maintained, and built thousands of ponds and would never make a recommendation that would hurt anyone.
