I don't have a massive collection either - and I'm an AVID film buff, and have been since I was a boy, taping stuff off HBO. I believe in the quality over quantity approach - and it's like that with my music (vinyl and CD) too. I also have kept all my DVDs I have been collecting since around 2003. Won't get rid of them unless I replace, say, a non anamorphic disc or one that looks horrid with the Blu or 4K. My income won't allow me to buy everything, as you mentioned, either.... and this extends to buying all the vinyl I want. I am just a freelance writer, so our bills are basically paid by solely my wife's income. We are just not in a position to buy random titles just to fill up shelves. I have that Twilight Zone DVD box. Nice set but horribly packaged. I keep my entire collection alphabetized, though, keeping films, shows and a couple of concerts all together. I separate DVD from Blu-ray/4K, and keep box sets alongside films. I also go against the grain a little when it comes to titles with NUMBERS - most people put these at the start of a collection, but I spell them out alphanumerically....so, for example, 8 Mile goes under "E."
Nice collection! I only have about 50 or so movies and TV shows. I get most of my stuff for $1 or less (even Blu-ray!), because most people just don’t want physical media. Every once in a while, I’ll get a collector’s edition or a 4K Blu-ray.
I buy mines from Amazon there hella expensive but worth it if ur a true move and music cds 💿 and blue rays and DVDs 📀 collectors like me I have a big room soooo I got a lot of space for physical media is all about being organize and not messy room

Your number of movies probably matches up to mine. My wife thinks I have too many but then I show her other peoples collections. I have about a 15’ long shelf that is about 3/4 full. I am like you. Only collect the ones I really want and get the DVD if it’s cheaper.
It's okay if you have a smaller collection. My collection is massive and always growing. I love collecting films! However, there's nothing wrong with just owning your favorites, either. Whatever works for you and can fit in your budget. Just enjoy the experience of collecting films.
A multi region Blu Ray player is a must for any serious movie collector I have few Criterion Blu Ray's that are region 1 and because I'm from Australia our movies are region 4 so I got a chip in my Oppo 203 4K player
Nice collection, and the shelve 👍 like the space you have in youre movie room. I own collection is bigger but about 2/3 of my movies are in boxes in storage room. Realy would love to one day have able to see my whole collection on shelves, just like you have done for youre movies. More, defennetly, is not always better than less 😐

I agree with your approach. My collection is only about 270 movies - almost half are horror. There might be a dozen more that I want. Space is a consideration so I need to be very selective and focus on the movies that have some personal importance to me although I've opened up my interests a bit watching Tubi and movie review channels. No multiple versions of the same movie. I usually buy used and enjoy the thrill of the hunt!
So im totally jealous of your The Thing Steelbook. I saw it when it came out but slept on it bdcause at the time, i had no idea i would eventually upgrade all my dvds to blu ray. I got the 2022 4k steel. But man that blu ray art you have is the best one.
I'm in agreement with you sir. Collecting just to have a bigger collection doesn't work for me. As an example, I hate the transformers franchise so I don't and never will own a transformer movie. I suspect my collection will always be relatively small because I only buy movies that I want to own and watch.

I too only buy what I like and don't spend a ton on new releases! I love going to charity stores\Pawn shops and scoring a good OOP Blu ray ata good price as some of those are not cheap on Ebay
Awesome video! I have about 800 disc. It’s expensive to collect..especially if you get disc on release date. I’ll never own over 1000 in my current living space..I’ll sale disc to make room. I do like slipcovers and box sets. And if those are taken care of nicely, I can make extra money (almost like an investment but not really-it just helps put money back into buying something else).
yeah i totally understand your vibe. there use to be this cool ebay seller who would sell like 200 dvds for 50 bucks and the business would sell it by categories . so i would buy like 200 romance movies / 200 drama/ 200 horror /200 action /200 comedies/ they promised no duplications so once i got them i looked at each time line when that movie was release and what other movies are like it ......anything that gave it a good imdb or rotten tomatos rating where than i would also go buy those movies separately .. eventually any movie i really liked from the dvd collection i would buy it in blu ray and than put the dvds that i have blu ray copies of into a storage box than selling them to the next lucky person. believe me or not i ended up having like almost 3000 movies inlcuding tv series by the end of the day and i ended up selling almost all of it and kept like 800 movies or so .. i actually watched all of them and i chose what to keep and what not to keep. i learned though that theirs alot of movies that were rated 5.6 imdb and 70 rotten tomato that were not always true ... you have to watch them yourself and judge it yourself .. so what i did next is i would buy a blu ray or dvd plastice sleeve just ilke ilke how you put a comic book away and label each movie i watched at what rating i think it is for me personally by sticking a small round sticker on it on the side of the outside of the plastic sleeve reminding me what each sticker color and number means . but yeah thanks for sharing the video , was very fun to watch.
I like your philosophy and approach to collecting 😀👍 but I suspect my collection is slightly smaller than yours😉 I probably have a few more Blu-rays/4Ks but including all the DVDs...I think you have more movies in total...not that it's a competition ;-)
Hehe. My normie friends think I'm a physicls media collector yet I only have 60 movies in total. My rule is, I only keep a movie if I'd give it an 8/10 or more.
I also collect movies that I enjoy. Over 500 DVDs, 100+ blurays, and just started getting 4K discs recently. I have been collecting for about 25 years. Storage space is a big issue. I have transferred all my DVDs and blurays to a media server, so I can just box up the physical discs and put them in storage. 4K discs will live on a shelf for now, as the file sizes are huge.
I have the same physical media philosophical outlook as you. Very rarely do I blind buy something. & I also only buy movies I really like. I just saw M3GAN for the 1st time the other night, & I be adding that to my collection. I think people who buy everything are silly. I dig that self rack you have too.
Nice collection. Just a tip your region locked blu-rays do not need a region free blu-ray player per se. If you put the disc in your player just keep pressing the top menu button and 9 times out of 10 it will go straight to the play menu and just hit play. I've been doing this since the launch of DVDs. So over a quarter of a century.
