Thank you so much! My pump went out and after installing a new one and pressure washing my frog pond, I noticed it continually pumped air bubbles into the pool along with the water. Additionally, the ground was saturated with water near the skimmer which clued me in on where the air had been coming from. I sure don't want to do this job, but I am of meager means and can't afford to pay someone else. I really appreciate your excellent tutorial. I've worked with a lot of engineers in my time and if you are not one, you certainly have the mind for it.. Much respect to you on your excellent work!

Great video, I became more confident after watching this. Just wondering how can do pressure test before concrete?
Hi James, thanks for the comment and question! You definitely can and should do your pressure test before pouring concrete around the skimmer. Once you make your plumbing connection, meaning connect the PVC pipe to the Skimmer, you are able to conduct the pressure test. I did this on both skimmers and have another video with some of these details (link below). In order to cap/seal off the skimmer side to do the test, your options are to use a rubber plug specifically designed for pressure testing (Not a typical winterizing rubber plug) OR in my case, the skimmers had a threaded female socket so I used a threaded PVC plug with teflon tape to get a good seal.

You should've use a concrete vibrator to remove voids and bubbles.
Probably a good call. I almost bought one from harbor freight (discount tool store) but didn't have any experience with them. I imagine this would have helped though, thanks for the suggestion and comment.

Lol that is a dream skimmer look at all that room you have I would have this skimmer in in about 45mins show a REAL replacement next time where you only have limited space and aren't they raising that deck...set it kind of low...but for homeowners great video....but I have never had one that I could plumb in after

Interesting products; I had not seen these before. I was thinking of cutting a lid from a piece of travertine to conceal it more. I'll have to look into the hide a lid more. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Carol, thank you for the nice comment. I don't actually have a company, just do this stuff DIY for my personal home. I love a challenge and figuring things out, but I also hate paying other people to do stuff :) Hope the videos are helpful!
Do you have a vacuum port hooked to one of your skimmers?
Negative, neither of my skimmers are plumbed with any secondary lines, single suction line each. I actually use the Tiger Shark electric robot vacuum that has built in filters, it works awesome! I prefer this to minimize the junk going into my filter which is also a cartridge filter. I don't have to touch or worry about the filter the entire season. I have a leaf net vac that a garden hose hooks up to that I use in the fall once leaves start falling before I get my cover on.
What is the product number for the Hayward Skim Master? Is it 1-1/2" or 2"?

What’s the cost for all of this? And how long did it take total?
Hey there, I don't remember the full cost, but less than $300 per skimmer, including the new Hayward skimmer.. It took me several weekends to complete the job, but I was working on it my spare time. I would think someone doing this job for the first time should plan 3 full days to knock it out.. A pro would probably do it in one day. I asked a pool guy what they would have charged for the job, they said at least $3k per skimmer in my area.. Back to the cost, I already had the tools needed to complete the job, so that's not included.
