- Habibati! A lot of you recommended that I check out Somewhere by Within Temptation, and turns out that Joe agrees! It also happens to feature his favorite singer Anneke van Giersbergen, but I'm sure that played no part in him choosing this song -_-

I don't know if anyone had mentioned it, but Floor Jansen(nightwish), Sharon den Adel(within temptation), Simone Simons (epica) and Anneke van Giersbergen are all Dutch ladies

Anneke is an amazing vocalist, and a lovely person. And just as an FYI; the singer of WT, Sharon, was quite sick on the day they did this concert. So it's absolutely mind boggling that she sang so incredibly well. Saying this as a not-fan of the band, but credit is due where it's due. What a combination of talent and perseverance.
That's a cool tid-bit of info. Although being sick doesn't really kick a singer down, like some of these bands go on tour 200 nights a year, they're getting sick, they push through, that's why they're rockstars

This is a great duet with a dutch singers, one of whom you already know.: Floor Jansen. The other is the lead singer of Epica. BTW, there is a full orchestra and choir in this performance---not a normal backing track.
This one is also a fantastic duet with female singers. I highly recommend it.

It's a bit less obvious from a ballad like this, but Within Temptation is in the same genre as Nightwish and Epica - Symphonic Metal :)

Anneke is amazing and she is beautiful. If it wasn't for her and The Gathering Strange Machines we wouldn't have Floor jansen. Sharon has a fabulous voice also and she is self taught.
Floor has gotten to sing with both of her heroes from her youth, must be such a feeling 8)

That show was fantastic. They recorded a live video album with an orchestra. I believe a choir was there too. They did that again for the 15th anniversary show album Elements. Check out Iron, In the Middle of the Night, and Memories

I can understand Joe 😊 Anneke has a beautifil.personality. I met her once during a intimite livingroom concert, beautiful person with a gorgeous voice❤️
They are a Dutch symphonic metal band that started the same time as Nightwish 1996. They are considered one of the pioneers of female fronted symphonic metal bands. The lead vocalist is Sharon den Adel who founded the band together with her partner Robert Westerholt. She applied, and was admitted, to the conservatory for opera training but did not like it so she changed over to the arts-academy within her first semester. So apart from that short stay she is complete self-tough. There she studied clothing design and management and completed it successfully. She has mainly used these skills in designing outfits used on stage. They have had a rather successful run in clubs for couple of years where their performances were constantly sold out. Because of that they got invited to the biggest festival in the Netherlands "Pink Pop". Even though they had a very early start the concert was a huge success. They released their single "Ice Queen"shortly after expecting it to be very successful but it did not do much until somewhere in December that year a dj played it on the radio. Suddenly the song shot up in the charts and even took the number 1 spot. Now other countries started to pay attention.

Originally this was not a duet but Anneke released duet version (with Sharon) as Within Temptation cover on her album Pure Air so there is studio version of this :)

I saw both, Anneke (with Ayreon) and Within Temptation live - and both are incredible good performers. Also Annekes husband is quite a good drummer! But the live show of within temptation, with the big screens, waving flags, and pyros on Wacken 2019 was just mindblowing! *____*

Talking about the top bands in symphonic metal you can approach it by having a look at the great Dutch female symphonic metal singers:
You do know Floor Jansen from Nightwish and you experienced Nightwish already.
Then there is Simone Simmons from Epica.
You have to experience „Sancta Terra“ from Epica feat. Floor Jansen. Another song to listen to is „Consign to Oblivion“.
A unique singer of her own you just discovered is Sharon den Adel from „Within Temptation“. They are incredible as well. Next songs to listen to might be „And we run feat. Xzibit“ (symphonic metal meets rap), „Angels“ and „Paradise feat. Tarja“ (the first singer of Nightwish).
Charlotte Wessels from „Delain“ is the next to explore: „Masters of Destiny“ is a must. Delain did a couple of songs with Marco from Nightwish like „Sing to me feat. Marco of Nightwish.
Another symphonic metal band to mention is Xandria from Germany. They had for some time another awesome Dutch singer: Dianne van Giersbergen. Try „Nightfall“.

One of the best vocal duets ever. And the icing on the cake? The cherry on top?
This concert took place with a full orchestral compliment -- and the beginning was only the orchestra. A full symphonic beginning that was at least 7:30 long. And for every song, the orchestra had their part.
This concert was Black Symphony 2008, played with the Metropole Orchestra in the Netherlands.
Note: No, Anneke is not on the original version, sadly. I would also recommend hearing Truth Beneath the Rose from this concert -- besides The Heart of Everything and this song, Truth Beneath the Rose is my favorite song from this concert.

For Simone I recommend Sancta Terra by Epica, featuring Floor, where she sings with Floor Jansen. I'm quite sure you'll be as equally impressed as with this song. And for Dianne I recommend Nightfall by Xandria.

The crazy part is, Sharon the front singer of WithinTemption is self taught, when she grew up she always sang, but planned to work with design.
She was never trained in styles and such.
Ofc, after the band got going an everything its clear she like every other singer trains and evolve and such.
But her talent, is talent, I think that is also why her style is so unique.
On point! she massive talent, she probably could've gotten here without a single lesson in her life, but the fact that she trained shows you how dedicated she is to her craft. It's very inspiring!
You should definitely watch Travel by The Gathering, Anneke's ex band. That song's just an amazing trip.

Loved your video! And love Within Temptation. I agree this is a very special performance. Whilst the original song doesn’t feature Anneke, a studio version is available from Anneke’s Pure Air album which features Sharon, the instrumentation is different on that track but it would be a good listen purely for the vocals. And, because I think you live beautiful melodic lines, check out Silent Lucidity by Queensryche, if you’re not already familiar. Gorgeous piece of music,. Also, if you would ever consider doing an album reaction, Nightwishes new one Human II Nature, a concept album, is a masterpiece. Songs should be done in order. If not the entire album, then at least do Shoemaker. Read what it’s about first. Perhaps any PF, Zeppelin, Tool you have t heard. Have you watched PF Comfortably Numb Pulse Concert live performance? Knockout performance by Gilmour.
Try to think of how many live performances you can think of where two beautiful ladies can do something like that? OK, challenge accepted. Let's start with Epica - Sancta Terra Ft Floor singing with Simone, then move on to Ayreon - Valley of the Queens (Anneke, Floor and Marcela, so 3 for the price of two) as a good starting point.

You really think the original singer of the song needs a hand signal from the guest vocalist to know when to start? Thats complete nonsense. If that was the case the singer with the band would have been getting hand signals left right and center from her band mates throughout the entire concert because according your hand signal theory the poor thing doesn't know anything about timing.

I mean they have a live orchestra. It would be silly to use a backing track of any kind (vocal or instrumental).
Fun fact, the song is written by, and first recorded by Anneke van Giersbergen. So, the original is actually without Within Temptation

We call this Shawarma, it is a core staple of Levantine and Arabic cuisine.
Shawarma (Arabs), Gyros (Greeks) and Doner (Turks) are all based on same idea.
