    Hey guys, thanks so much for the awesome video, really loved hearing you put it through its paces, sounds great in your hands!
    Only thing extra to say is that the key differences that Carnaby HE2 Legacy Edition has over the 'standard' edition is the look of it of course, the fact that it comes in a special Cranborne Audio display rack-case and, perhaps most importantly, it is handbuilt by us in the UK.

    • @AudioAnimalsStudio

      Glad you enjoy the video. Thank you for allowing us early access to our unit. Much appreciated. I actually thought I wouldn't get any use out of the displace case. But I've racked my mac studio and UAD satellite boxes in it under the desk. Really well built case. My gear gets racked and never leaves the studio. An excellent product that has improved on the 500 series version. We love. We now have to kit out all the other studios with the black version when it releases. Will update a review on plugin connectivity when that launching and show how I can control the unit via a plugin using the avid S4 and instant recall in sessions.

      Thanks Paul for doing this video. Thank you Cranborne for letting Paul use this in a video. I been asking Paul to do a video on this the second he got his hands on it because I know Paul will do a honest review and he can help validate the purchase. I had mine on pre-order pretty much the day this was shown at NAMM. I wonder can you get the special edition without the case and stuff?

      @braxal6983 this is my one I purchased from KMR. I just managed to get it before release date to do the video on it. You'll know when something hasn't been purchased yet as it won't be racked, due to marking it. Cranbourne Audio did approve me getting it early, which I have people like yourself to thank for that. As so many people expressed interest to me since Namm.

    Nice video Paul, this thing is like a little dynamite 🧨. I see it as an Eq enhancer with an analog feel. There are lots of plugins that can do similar but without the analog harmonic feel. So when I saw this announce, like many others, I was instantly interested. The digital recall aspect of it is a huge plus. As well as the parameter link without optosync. Then mid side added too. I'm trying to think of what could have been done to improve HE2 and I can't think of any. The perfect successor to the Carnaby 500.

    Been waiting for this one Paul and it didn't disappoint! Demo on the breaks was genius. Anyone who makes Hip Hop knows those breaks and how dull they sound before processing while the HE2 made easy work of that. At first It was the top end that really impressed in the full mixes, then the lows but wow does that mid range fill out the track nicely. My first impression is it has a very open and natural sound even when the bands are boosted wildly. The only thing I dislike about the HE2 will be deciding drum bus or 2 bus!

    • @AudioAnimalsStudio
      @AudioAnimalsStudio  22 дні тому +1

      They are quite affordable so there's always the option to buy 2. But what you would have the possibility of doing if you had one. Is because it has recall, use it in the mix session and print the mix. Then master the mix in another session using it again. As you switch sessions the hardware will recall to that session.

  • @CT-ho6si
    @CT-ho6si 24 дні тому

    Wow the end of the video really showed the best use for this box -- you were able to manipulate that dull mix quite drastically! Not sure the character of grit/saturation/harmonics is really what I want for mastering (especially with things like Super Silk, Black Box, Overstayer, etc available) but for bringing life to a dull mix and really moving things around the stereo field, that was impressive. On the raw drum and mastering examples it was apparent I'd want to be careful to keep it subtle.

    • @AudioAnimalsStudio
      @AudioAnimalsStudio  24 дні тому +1

      In these kinds of demos you are taking it to the extreme. In mastering especially with an entire mastering chain available you'd use 10% of what I'm using it for here. Lifting the sides out the mix, adding some subtle weight in the low end on the mids. The choice of songs in this example were all purposely quite dull, as the one thing this unit is really great for is exciting a mix and bringing the high frequencies to life.

    • @AudioAnimalsStudio

    Great content! So is this possibly going to replace your Black Box Hg2 since you can now apply saturation and harmonics to specific frequencies?

    • @AudioAnimalsStudio
      @AudioAnimalsStudio  24 дні тому +2

      I prefer the sound of the HE2 compared to the HG2. The two are still quite different. The HG2 will be replaced with the Hendy Amps Michelangelo XL EQ I designed. I purposely designed this unit to give me everything I wished the HG2 could do.

    • @bluediamondmusiq7456
      @bluediamondmusiq7456 18 днів тому

      @@AudioAnimalsStudio Yeah I would imagine the sound of the HE2 being different yet more preferred than the Hg2, not to mention the HE2 having more options with control over specific frequencies when adding harmonics and saturation. I remember you saying with the option of the HE2 being able to turn any additional unit into mid/side that it might just replace your SPL Gemini. Do you feel there is still a need for the SPL Gemini anymore and have you removed it out of your chain now?

    • @AudioAnimalsStudio
      @AudioAnimalsStudio  18 днів тому

      @bluediamondmusiq7456 no I haven't removed the Gemini. I considered it but there's a lot of things the Gemini brings to the table other than MS. Solo mid and side, elliptical filter (mono maker), mid and side gain. The issue with the HE2 being used as a mid side encoder is that you need to use the HE2 in mid side for the insert to be mid side. No issues with the HE2 as a mid side encoder other than that. I like to switch between stereo and mid side on the HE2 depending on what's required of the song.

  • @SaintPunk
    @SaintPunk 23 дні тому

    I pre-ordered this unit back in January when they announced, as I have the 500 version and love that they integrated a plugin. Question though, do you find the knobs to be a little inaccurate? I noticed in your video that sometimes it wouldn't respond when turning the output up or down a click. The same thing happens with the 500 versions, which makes it impossible for recall. I thought the plugin would fix that, but now I'm not sure.

    • @AudioAnimalsStudio
      @AudioAnimalsStudio  23 дні тому

      The reason you see that is because on the output per light turning in is 2 clicks. So let's say per light was 2db. The steps are 1db. 20db output would require 20 lights. You are correct recall would be impossible to know if you are set to 1db or 2db on the output. This also the case on the gain as well. I've found that without the recall plugin, I'm conscious that I want to set the gain a 1db each time. However, when using the plugin, it'll instantly recall as you had it set. So there would be no need to worry about that. If you aren't going to use the plugin for recall and you want to recall the best option is consciously use 1db steps on the gain. This isn't the case with frequency. You can see on frequency you 1 light and 2 lights to indicate you are in between the 2 lights.

    I honestly have mixed feelings not gonna lie. When the 500 came out I had my reservations and then I heard it and wasn't wrong. Unfortunately I still feel the same. I think this shines on low end (without a doubt) top end can get gritty very quickly making it sound "funny", almost unrealistic with all the harmonics going on in there. I fear on a full mix it clutters the mid range a bit for the same reasons. If you ask me use it on stems no doubt, especially on low end and keep it away from drums. It certainly might beef up a dull mix but not sure - a little goes a long way in this scenario perhaps. Thanks for the video nonetheless.

    This is the exact chain I want to buy to add to the rest of my Wesaudio collection. Paul, would these 3 pieces: Ngtube,Ngbus and the HE-2 be a decent starting mastering chain? And what would you add to it if you only had these 3 pieces to round it out?

    • @AudioAnimalsStudio
      @AudioAnimalsStudio  24 дні тому +1

      I use those 3 over my mix bus and in mastering also. I'd say if you had these 3 stay with digitally recallable gear. The one thing you would be lacking is a mastering compressor. The bus comp is more to glue your mix together. I'd say wait for Wes Audio to release a compressor. That is surely next on the list. Or right now you could go bettermaker compressor.

    • @AudioAnimalsStudio
      @AudioAnimalsStudio  23 дні тому +1

      @ezstproductions_ I've been mastering with it a lot over the past few days and as a test I mastered songs without the HE2 active to a point of the master sounding as I wanted it sound. I then added the HE2 to assess how much more I can add to the master just by including the HE2. What I found was that I was able to add harmonic content into the high end very well that in mid side mode lifted the track and the image without it sounding like it was now too much. I visualised it as filing in the frequencies rather than increasing the gain. Then, the same in the low end on the mid to add a fuller bass tone. In these demos you aren't hearing the gear in a real-world scenario. We try to cover all possible ways of using the EQ in a short period of time, to show what it is capable of. When you actually get your hands on it, you'll find you use it in a more pleasing way. I can say 100% for me, it adds something to the chain that isn't already there.
