I'm so glad to see the original building face is still actually there, hidden. When I started seeing the new face of the courthouse I was appalled that they'd even consider replacing it.

kudos to Universal Studios for envisioning a future where the original studio sets would become a role playing/tourist paradise for all of us kids that lived this 20 years or more ago. I honestly can't believe this isn't a tour yet based on the popularity of the studio lot tours and the BTF movies. Universal missed out on using this lot during the filming of wandavision as that would of fit well in this area, though Disney handled it in my opinion. Thanks for the virtual onset tour.

the two clock tower panthers "cats" are actually from the movie Cat People 1982. The Universal prop department made several cats for the movie's faux zoo set - and later the art director on Back to the Future re-used them. You can see the "cats" in the movie Cat People - located above the entrance/cages of the panthers.

What's crazy is that in the small town i live in we had an old bank that looked very similar to how that building looked in the movie minus the clock on the front but with the 4 columns and it sat vacant for nearly 20 years until a coin and card shop moved in and the had the front of the building under construction forever and when done it was just awful and people complained and threw fits because it did not fit in with all the rest of how downtown looked and after 10 years or so they went out of business and the building was bought by a Jewelry store that was expanding and moving from another location. A week after they bought the building they were featured in the local paper because it was discovered that that card shop had just done like this is shown in the video around the pillars only he followed on thru on the inside and actually between the pillars and the wall back behind it built rooms for storage. Anyway the paper ran this huge section dedicated to this because even though the jewelry store owner wanted to get his store back open once they had discovered this they decided to rip all the added on stuff down from the building and restore it to how it looked as a bank. they sought out this building because it still had the old huge vault inside. Anyway a few months later they had an open house and i could not even imagine the money they had sank in the place. As an added plus when they were working in the old attic they discovered the original large 4 sided clock that use to sit on a pole on the sidewalk by the curb and that had it rebuilt and installed back where it was close to 100 years before. they are still in business in that building and it looked so nice when it was done it started a whole thing of the other owners restoring the faces of their buildings and now the downtown looks for the most part like it did late 60s to mid 70s it really depended on how crazy the owners went it. the whole downtown looking so nice even gained some attention because some indie filmmaker came here and they shot some 3 part mini series set post vietnam and they used the downtown for a parts of it. I have no idea what it really was and a few people I knew did see it and they said the downtown looked good but the movie was unbearable so i never watched it.

I know where the clock is from the clock tower. This is so weird. A video popped up on my feed so I clicked on it. This dad and son in Massachusetts have the largest back to the future movie memorabilia collection and they have the clock. Their collection is unbelievable. Christopher Lloyd was in the video also and went to see all the stuff. What a cool video. They have hundreds and probably thousands of original props from the movies. It's crazy. Cool video to watch. It's just weird but good that it just popped up a couple days after I watched this video. Well, mystery solved.

This video back so many great memories! About a decade ago, I was hired to rig and stunt coordinate a 500 foot zip line coming from the clock tower down to the street below for a BTTF event. I literally took that same path up to the roof. Unfortunately, the small door you saw just leads to the inside of the façade. For the film, there were several ports that you could remove to get outside that small ledge. When they rebuilt the top, they didn’t put those in so there is no way to get to that ledge easily. Once I rigged the 3/8 inch steel cable and cut it locked off on both ends, I had to climb up on the roof, then hold onto the line at the edge and swing down and then jumped over to reach the ledge below. Lol… Yes, I have pictures! Then I had the Zipline trolley and was the first one to test the system, as I usually am.. Yes, the zip line was insanely fun but getting to that launch spot was always a pain! The biggest problem for installing it was that that top peak with the clock façade didn’t have much structure up there so we had to run it back another 85 feet to get to the steel behind it. Even with all that trouble it was still such a joy to get to bring that scene to life.

At one point you see the fresnel lens opened. This is known as "open eye" and was used sometimes to give a harder pin point of light usually to cast hard shadows from blinds and such. This is also how you change the burnt out bulb too, lol.

Long time watcher, first time botherer.
We went to Universal Studios Florida (not California) in 1992 and again in 1993 and on one of those occasions, on the back lot tour, amongst various props (Including part of the Casablanca aeroplane) we saw the ‘original clock’ from the BTTF courthouse. So assuming this was the truth it seems it somehow made its way to the other side of the US after the late 80s renovation you describe in the video. I can’t remember if I took a picture - back then you had to use your 24 exposures sparingly so not sure if I deemed it pic worthy at the time. I’d have taken 50 of it now and probably made it my Lock Screen. I’ll have a look though. Brilliant video, absolutely loved it. Thanks!

How did Adam not go behind to see this, if he did I missed it, I mean he did every BTTF filming location.

“I can fly”. I remember a rumor if Knight Rider had made a fifth season KITT would’ve actually flown. I wonder how they would have accomplished that.

It wasn't until I watched the intro to this video that I realized the "clock tower" is not a TOWER, and it never was. They said "save the clock tower" to us kids and we just believed it! My life is a lie!!! 😆

Nothing inside like we thought as kids . I used to think doc runs up the stairs inside but he must of run into oblivion because how did he get up on the roof?. The back lot stairs we can't see it's out of site! 😂

@@PAUL-MH The thing that always got me, as I became more aware as an adult, is when you see someone go from an interior to an exterior and those two places could be miles away from each other. As a young kid I always thought they filmed inside the real homes etc.
