as a bi girl with a pretty heavy female lean, it’s awesome to see a vtuber talk about sexuality so openly. i’ll totally have to check out her future streams, she seems incredibly chill. it’s really interesting to hear her talk about her experiences as a lesbian!
I saw this a long time ago already, but it just reminds me again how real Gundou is. Her language is precise, her experiences clear and candid. She knows the specific terms of the community and mentions things people who are just baiting wouldnt even understand. Although Gundou is also an entertainer and does often exaggerate things (god her recent collab with Hoshikawa was kind of stomach churning), she also has a very clear identity. At the point in time of this stream there were basically no other Vtubers who were out of the closet. She is an absolute forerunner in that regard. I dont care whether the whole GunKan things is real. She said she has no romantic interest in men, but as with any bisexual, a certain experience can change perspective on many matters. Either way she is still the same Gundou she was back then. I feel sympathy for her because her relationships never work out. It can be heartbreaking, it can be discouraging. Yet she sounds not bitter at all. My respect.
It's refreshing to hear about actual dynamics with bi or lesbian relationships (at least casual ones in this case) in Japan. A lot of vtubers will tease each other about being lesbian and fans will ship them and such but there's rarely an honest conversation like this one.
as a bi person, incredibly refreshing when to hear this talked about openly and without any stipulations thrown in. just a true, genuine talk about her experiences as a lesbian. i enjoy her mentioning the niji management being perfectly fine with it. i do like the hololive talents, but they will never be able to shake the idol trappings and ensuing management oversight. i mention this because some of the girls legitimatly seem to be, at the very least, not hetero, but theyll never be able to say it. girl-girl relationships are only okay as a tool to increase viewer counts, but if they were allowed to come out, well then the idol purists are pissed because their incel ass delusions of "having a chance" are crushed. this isnt a purely hololive issue per se. my absolute favorite vtuber is amano pikamee, and from her group, VOMs theres also tomoshika, who constantly talks of her love for pika... the problem is its hard to tell if she actually, truly likes pikamee in that romantic sense, and not just as a dynamic meant to appeal to viewers. i want to have faith since the VOMs girls have said theyre individuals and should be treated as one would treat independents, but you never know. not being forced to wonder if representation is just fanservice is a real blessing...
I feel u on this (Mostly from just hearing Marine stories) but I feel like they'll never be able to truly express how they feel and who they are by all means should they while the Antis and idol fans would just lose their minds i feel like especially here in the west their fans would not only accept them and love them even more the drive in like I said pairing shipping etc would just boost them so high in popularity sadly Cover just doesn't want to upset its "core fanbase"

People are asking how she can talk about these things casually.. I mean she's just gotten to a point in life where she's okay with talking about it with viewers. Life advice: You'll eventually get used to talking about it. Whatever that it is or are, doesn't really matter because again, you'll get used to talking about it.
I think that is an overgeneralization. In many cases coming out has averse consequences. You cant just say that you will get used talking about it, because in many cases you have nobody you can talk to it about. There are 40 year old lesbians in the closet out there for a reason.
Not everybody gets used to talking about taboo topics like sexualty, let alone non hetero ones, and even less as a public figure working for a company like her. We're making strides towards a society that just lets people explore themselves freely, but for now not everyone can discuss these topics like she did. Gundou being open about this, Tomoe loving girls and how she said "same sex relationships are not weird!" Sure, it doesn't make it less offensive, but it's somewhat important to know that it's probably just down to the differences of the "western" and the Japanese LGBTQ+ community rather than pure malice.
Interesting. As a lesbian myself, most people in all the online circles I’m in prefer more masculine women, I guess it’s a cultural difference? And it doesn’t have to mean you’re trans, gender roles don’t correlate with gender after all. Personally I’m nonbinary, lesbianism is my only connection to womanhood. I guess you can think of it this way: calling myself a “woman” feels wrong, I’m definitely not, but calling myself a “women who loves women” feels completely right. It’s only in a lesbian context that I feel somewhat like a “girl”, but in the long term I’m not. Though I doubt this would make sense to a non lesbian.
No offense, but I dont think that makes a lot of sense to most lesbians either. Understanding nonbinary is entirely removed from homosexuality. I cant even remotely understand what that is like and I'm trying to be more open-minded than most. As for many lesbians prefering butch/masculine girls, well that's certainly a more recent trend as far as I can see. We've already broken out of the old faux gender roles BS where a butch has to love femmes and vice versa, but I do notice that in Japan there are far more femmes in general. And they tend to like femmes more as well. So that might indeed be a cultural thing.
Yourson Isold Dont worry I’m not offended, you’re being very respectful about not understanding. There’s actually a lot more nonbinary lesbians than you’d think, a lot of people who understand my experiences. I’ve even seen Japanese nonbinary lesbians on twitter! It’s not all unheard of. It doesn’t have to be removed from homosexuality, but the common misunderstanding is that “nonbinary” always means “neither male nor female”, when all it means is you don’t fit into the strict boxes of “either completely male or completely female”. It means your gender is divergent from that “binary” in some way, so it can mean a lot of things and be very fluid and complex!
i think this makes perfect sense to me, because gender doesnt equal sexuality. you can be nonbinary and not coincide with society's gendered roles and still know that you are a lesbian. i am the same way! i mostly use they/them pronouns but in a basic sense, i do present as a girl. i just dont necessarily feel my identity fits in with the binary of woman/man that society has created. i think that's completely understandable because gender roles can be exhausting and more often than not restricting and demeaning. you can totally express your gender freely and know who you're attracted to! i believe nonbinary and trans lesbians have always belonged within this circle. gender and sexuality might cross paths on some occasions, but they dont rely on each other. i can see that this might be confusing for those who dont really question their gender identity much? either way, i do agree that ive seen a lot of lesbians prefer masculine women, at least in my country. but im the opposite, ive always been a femme who prefers other femmes, but its just up to personal preference in the end! :)
I don't want to be rude but i think a lot of 'non binary' lesbians have some sort of internalised mysogyny going on. It's fine to accept yourself as a woman who's a lesbian, i don't really get why you believe you are not a woman.
this makes me incredibly happy to see a popular vtuber who's a wlw (woman-loving-woman). as another bisexual girl, we hardly ever see any positive representation. it's always fetishized or hardly spoken about like it's a taboo. to see someone with such a platform discuss it in a positive light? finally treating this sexuality as a normalcy in conversation? i couldn't tell you how brave she is.
always knew gundou was a mega-chad its also really nice hearing a Vtuber openly talk about being LGBT, its nice to feel like who you are isnt some coy secret
ok, I love that she is able to talk about this topics freely. I don't like it when they are shown as taboo or as something that doesn't exist (like when some people say they are just joking). And I love that she uses specific words like lesbian, gay, and transgender, instead of stuff like "crossdressing" or "bl" or "yuri", bc I think these other terms are kind of downplaying real experiences of real people and labeling as just a kink. Anyway, thank you for the translation and for the introduction to Gundou Mirei :)
why do you writed crossdresser? Crossdressing has nothing to do with lgbt or your sexual orientation. It's just mean that you wear opposite gender clothes not that you want to transition to the opposite gender it's not the same thing.
@@narudayo5053 well, it is pretty related, as transgender are people whose their gender identity doesn't match with their biological gender, and crossdressing is a practice which consist in wearing clothes that are not associated with the gender's person doing it. It’s pretty weird that a lot of V-tubers aren’t very open about this stuff, maybe it’s a cultural thing but I think having more entertainers like V-tubers being open about them being LGBT+ could really help some people who are perhaps shy or uncomfortable about expressing themselves, I’ve known many people who felt much more confident about coming out when a person they looked up to also came out and they weren’t even celebrities a lesbian friend of mine actually came out after one of her teachers came out as gay
Komi-San Must be Protected you’re right, it’s probably a cultural thing. LGBT in mainstream Japan is more fanservicey and fetishized than anything, and it’s esp prevalent in Vtubers w/ their てえてえ and shit like that. Suddenly becoming serious and actually coming out with sincere feelings could potentially block out some fans who look at lesbianism/gay culture through rose-tinted glasses. It sucks but I agree with you in Vtubers being potential role models in LGBT fans.
@@2525-j7b Yes it is a cultural thing. Japan is better than most Asian cultures tho. but its still not the best for LGBT issues. Its getting better and better. Some of the main issues are due to media portrayal. Some of THE earliest Yuri Mangas all had tragic endings most of them being "It was just a phase in high school" This would confuse a lot of young people still discovering stuff about themselves. The Media also portrayed Lesbian relationships as just sexual , Yes they are sexual but lesbian couples also seek companionship like normal couples. While most Young Japanese people support same sex rights and marriage, The current ruling party are against it. I think if the ruling party was in support, I think a lot more people would be open about it ...but its the way things are.
Sadly being a Vtuber is not about being a role model, but about making money. Tackling LGBT issues is intensely unpopular for Japanese entertainment. Even worse for places like Hololive who is a wannabe idol agency. Nijisanji is somewhat more open minded in a lot of regards, but they also mostly give their talent a "You swim or drown on your own" attitude. If there is backlash they will let the Vtuber take it on their own mostly (unless they are the golden cash cow or in the idol-like artist position). Remember, even Sukoya and Tomoe almost didnt get together because Tomoe feared the fan backlash that would hurt Sukoya. Even now they dont use the words dating or going out etc.
i think part of it too is that they're still playing characters - depending on how excessive the character is, e.g. you're a freaking 1000 year old vampire dragon queen ruler of the seven kingdoms style, you're gonna be less inclusive about bringing your real self into a vtuber environment *but* still the cultural thing is definitely relevant too though. the lgbt stigma/struggle is real sadly, and the hypocrisy is also real when it comes to yuri/yaoi manga/anime yet they might dislike IRL lesbians/gays. currently, you'd at best see japan tackling lgbt issues only through social media/youtube, like through gay couple channels, opinion channels (e.g. "that japanese man yuta") and such.
Stop saying that she is LGBT+ tf ? Her being a bisexual does not mean she is part of a community. LGBT+ is a community. If it's not how about adding straight in there as well. Basically anyone who is not straight is part of a community to you people. Just imagine a community for every straight person or a community for every handicapped person. Not every straight or handicapped guy would want to be part of a community. A lot of people don't wish to be represented by some group. There are plenty of homosexuals who don't like the LGBT+ community or even pride month.
Big props to Ichikara respecting people of different sexual orientations and Mirei for opening discussions about deeper and more personal gender topics.
I watched it all with a silly smile on my face and at some point, I felt my eyes watering. I don't know. I think it is the first time I hear a wlw - bisexual especially - talking so casually, candidly, and truthfully about her dating experience. I had a certain image about how wlw dating would go, but it was built by the internet so I hardly trusted it, so yes, this was definitely nice, to hear someone with similar tastes, that hasn't content focused on the community - you know, someone you do not expect to talk about it-, talk about this, and like that. Yep. I have had only 3 relationships, all failures. And all 6+ years ago lol. So she's doing really good considering.
In gay communities it's generally easy to get laid, but hard to get into a long steady relationship.
I think what she means is it’s harder to find other wlw near her. Like, her having slept with all four of those ladies was more of a testament to how small the circle of wlw in her area was.

So you're a "Fem Neko"?
Oh nice Kanan pfp
My respect.

She's confident in who she is. I can respect that. She takes pride in herself and that makes her a beautiful person.
@Adam Evans Can honestly agree with that tbh..half of the problem may lie with her.
It's refreshing to hear about actual dynamics with bi or lesbian relationships (at least casual ones in this case) in Japan. A lot of vtubers will tease each other about being lesbian and fans will ship them and such but there's rarely an honest conversation like this one.
Because gay baiting is a staple in Japanese entertainment, both yuri and BL. Most of them are posers and not actually gay themselves.
as a bi person, incredibly refreshing when to hear this talked about openly and without any stipulations thrown in. just a true, genuine talk about her experiences as a lesbian.
i enjoy her mentioning the niji management being perfectly fine with it. i do like the hololive talents, but they will never be able to shake the idol trappings and ensuing management oversight. i mention this because some of the girls legitimatly seem to be, at the very least, not hetero, but theyll never be able to say it. girl-girl relationships are only okay as a tool to increase viewer counts, but if they were allowed to come out, well then the idol purists are pissed because their incel ass delusions of "having a chance" are crushed.
this isnt a purely hololive issue per se. my absolute favorite vtuber is amano pikamee, and from her group, VOMs theres also tomoshika, who constantly talks of her love for pika... the problem is its hard to tell if she actually, truly likes pikamee in that romantic sense, and not just as a dynamic meant to appeal to viewers. i want to have faith since the VOMs girls have said theyre individuals and should be treated as one would treat independents, but you never know.
not being forced to wonder if representation is just fanservice is a real blessing...
They do have a chance. The incels have seen Back Street Girls. They know what they must do but do they have the resolve?

I think that is an overgeneralization. In many cases coming out has averse consequences. You cant just say that you will get used talking about it, because in many cases you have nobody you can talk to it about. There are 40 year old lesbians in the closet out there for a reason.
Not everybody gets used to talking about taboo topics like sexualty, let alone non hetero ones, and even less as a public figure working for a company like her.

@@JR-qt8qb To be fair, she was speaking from her perspective of the Japanese LGBTQ+ community, which *is* quite different from the "western" one. Sure, it doesn't make it less offensive, but it's somewhat important to know that it's probably just down to the differences of the "western" and the Japanese LGBTQ+ community rather than pure malice.
This is one of the best explanations for non-binary lesbians I’ve seen imo
I don't want to be rude but i think a lot of 'non binary' lesbians have some sort of internalised mysogyny going on. It's fine to accept yourself as a woman who's a lesbian, i don't really get why you believe you are not a woman.

ok, I love that she is able to talk about this topics freely. I don't like it when they are shown as taboo or as something that doesn't exist (like when some people say they are just joking). Anyway, thank you for the translation and for the introduction to Gundou Mirei :)
Crossdresser and transgender are a whole different thing tbh
why do you writed crossdresser? Crossdressing has nothing to do with lgbt or your sexual orientation. It's just mean that you wear opposite gender clothes not that you want to transition to the opposite gender it's not the same thing.

Even now they dont use the words dating or going out etc.
i think part of it too is that they're still playing characters -
depending on how excessive the character is, e.g. you're a freaking 1000 year old vampire dragon queen ruler of the seven kingdoms style, you're gonna be less inclusive about bringing your real self into a vtuber environment *but* still the cultural thing is definitely relevant too though. the lgbt stigma/struggle is real sadly, and the hypocrisy is also real when it comes to yuri/yaoi manga/anime yet they might dislike IRL lesbians/gays.
currently, you'd at best see japan tackling lgbt issues only through social media/youtube, like through gay couple channels, opinion channels (e.g.

WHAT omg I’m so glad I found her, as a lesbian I’m so happy to have found a vtuber who shares her experiences so casually. I’m sure she’ll be my favorite vtuber now. Lesbians and sapphics truly have won this time✨
As much as we want gunkan to happen. The fact is they are colleges and if they date and broke up it could cause awkwardnes in the air
I'm so happy that she can talk about her sexuality freely and no one judges her especially that we all know vtuber community consists of mostly males.
Title: on being a lesbian
Her: I’m bi
Lesbians tend to get more views then us bi people
Ive learned a surprising amount of the Lesbian community in Japan today. How nice.
“What happened to GunKan?”
“Gone, reduced to ashes.”
My thoughts hahajau
but don't be desperate, there is still hope, she didn't said she wasn't into guys, so there is a chance... a slight chance but still a chance !
I mean she said she was bi not full on lesbian lmao. I feel like she just has a large preference for girls, and is more comfortable with talking about girls. I'm also like this so its not that we don't like guys, we just don't like/talk about them as much.
@@rigierish3807 She basically admitted that she sleeps around, she's not the type of person to get attached. Even if she hooks up with Kanda (probably has already if it ever was going to happen), it would be short-lived.
@@gamechannel1271 Yeah, I just said that for kidding, but I saw some information about her, and indeed, when I see with how much she slept with, I can't but agree with what you said
Meanwhile the women from the story that just happened to be watching her for some reason “i knew that voice sounded familiar”
Everyone just needs to accept that she loves women,I don't known why people are digging this up so much.
It's good to hear the company was chill about it too. That's probably not true for a lot of idol groups, even today.
Less chance of boy 'trouble' / pregnancy leave ;)
i love people like this being open about their sexuality, we all need it in this society
Hoshikawa: Chotto matte, what about gunkan?
Veteran Gundou fans: Gone, reduced to atoms.
randomly stumbled upon this video (i dont watch nijisanji, but i watch other vtubers) and i wasnt expecting this random vtuber to say trans rights, i love that for her
Did she? Unless the translation was weird or i completely misunderstood what she meant she kinda just seemed to conflate boyish/butch lesbians with trans men, say its an entirely different world from being a lesbian and move on.
lesbian CHAD doesn't remember her body count. I Stan
shes so real for this
Her voice is so nice! So kind and calming
THIS IS A W FOR THE LESBIANS WOOOO
it’s so interesting hearing how different those with different cultures/languages talk about sexuality and gender! especially from this “insider” perspective
That Chitose popping made me skip a beat :'( Thanks for the translation !
Same ma fren...glad shes doin good now
@@hepburnromanization2024 dont forget to check her new song guys 😉
This is so precious to see her share about it so openly 😻
It's also super interesting to hear about gay bars in Japan. I'm not surprised she would know most people there... It's not easy to be gay and live a tranquil open life abd meet many fellow lesbians, but in Japan? It sounds really rough...
It also sounds like NB and trans peeps go there because Japan is not the best place to accept them outside of those bars heh? You could meet bi people anyway in there! I'm also happy she's accepted in her workplace as far as we know.
Thrive, lesbian queen.
none of this surprised me tbh. but the thing i found funny was how when she talked about reply of ichikara, she sounded exactly like kuzuha and all i could think was damn kuzuha is high up in the hierarchy
Oh nooo this cracked me up 😭😭😭
@Ace Gonzales nothing really its just that at 8:51 or so when she says iin janai su ka, it sounds like a kuzuha impression
I dont know why I keep getting anime girl twitch streamers in my recommended but I did learn an interesting lesson abt queer culture in Japan so I'll live with it
"What's your body count?"
*intense contemplation* "I lost count"
What an absolute chad
Things aside was pretty fucking awesome that Nijisanji was like: "Eh!m I would I have problems?"
ah, i love finding sapphic vtubers.
This was a pretty interesting insight into the non straight dating scene in Japan
Thanks for the translation
super super interesting tyvm. tbh most of the clips of gundou i watch she's yelling at the top of her lungs, so it's so interesting seeing her as like, a proper adult. i get a totally different impression her now, she must be really cool irl.
I can't pay attention to what she's saying because what the HELL is she doing? Why is she just... leveling the land under trees, while leaving the trees floating?
Probably going to cut them later after the ground is finished.
Yeah I was thinking about that and I was very confused
"I lost count"
If that aint chad material, i dont know what is
Finally some Bi rep in the vtuber community
Nijisanji sure is a place with kind people
*Imagine telling "I lost count"*
🤣🤣😄😃😌😟
Intriguing. Thanks for translating this
Even their dating system is organized.
watching this makes me miss chitose :'(
thank you for the the subs, really enjoyed this clip!
