In episode 2 of the Happen Films Podcast we’re joined by a Dude Making a Difference, Rob Greenfield. You might already be one of Rob’s hundreds of thousands of followers; if not, we’re delighted to introduce you to him because he’s one of our favourite people out there working to make the world a better place.
We’ve been fans of Rob Greenfield’s work for years, and had the opportunity to catch up with him while he was under lockdown in France during Covid-19. With this interruption to daily life giving many the opportunity to reflect on the type of life they’d like to lead, it was interesting to hear about Rob’s personal journey.
“It’s been about a decade now since I really shifted my life. I was living a very materialistic life. I wanted to be a millionaire by the time I was thirty. Then I started to listen to other perspectives and I just woke up to the fact that my life was not what I thought it was at all. I was buying into all these lies that corporations had sold me on what I needed to do in order to be a happy, healthy, successful human being and I pretty quickly decided that I was going to radically transform my life.”
Rob has gained notoriety around the world for some of his extreme campaigns - wearing all his own rubbish as he accumulated it over the course of a month (there was a lot to carry!); foraging or growing 100% (100%!) of his food for a year. Rather than fulfil his desire to be a millionaire, his financial vows see him donating 100% of his media income to grassroots charities and his financial net worth kept to the very bare minimum.
Rob is a great inspiration. Not because we should all choose to live this way - he acknowledges it’s not for everyone - but because he lives his truth in a way that fulfils him, in a way that he can be proud of, and in the way he truly wants to. That seems to us to be something to aspire to, for each of us in our individual ways.
    Enjoy the podcast!

Hi Rob. Speaking from NH, USA. Love your positivity. In so many ways this is what we've been crying out for. Enough. Days of rest and reflection. The ones dying and sacrificing for the necessary change must be mourned. Blessings for all of us. Gratitude🌍🌎🌏🆓🌌

Great podcast! Your insight is so valued, Rob. The conversation regarding death and impermanence is so relevant to me right now. With the virus happening now I've reexamined my ideas on death and feel more comfort and ease in coming to a place of acceptance with it. So thank you for your words as it is very confirming.
Your work is inspiring. What you do is making a difference. Thank you for all of it and sharing. Much love to you...

I loved this video! I recently contacted you on your website. When you say about pumpkins and dying in the trees. I spend everyday with the trees. Imagining myself as a tree. Trees do not die of old age... I feel like we are trees.. interesting thoughts. I view life very similar to you. Hope to speak soon

Have just listened to both of your podcasts in a row and want to say a huge thank you for putting this out there. I'm probably part of the large group who have 'awakened' but feel stuck about how to move forward. Living in a city with no access to land or any of the skills needed yet, getting to a place of resilience like these guys just seems such a daunting idea and so far away. But watching this has made me feel empowered that taking small steps and importantly, just having an alternative mindset and vision for what you want out of life can keep us moving in the right direction.

Love from Brazil you guys! We are city dwellers growing most of our food and trying to go zero waste. As a therapist (md psychiatrist) i have been integrating horticultural therapy to my practice and obtaining promising results. Thank you for the inspiration!

It's really nice to hear Rob talking about so many things that I have been feeling for so many years. I really find it difficult to relate to the majority of people but I relate to everything that Rob says with one exception, the intentional exploitation of animals. With that said thank you Rob and I hope one day you change your mind about animal rights.

Wow ! I was overwhelmed till you pointed out to start with what is passionate to me and to keep it simple. So far I tried to mimic you but made it very complicated.Going to try and do what you said by making one small change in my life per week. A difficult gesture in this period of time.Starting with taking a walk in the woods next to my house this afternoon.

Thanks for sharing this video. It's amazing and very inspiring to know how people like Rob change their life styles to care for their nature.
Really admire people like him who dare to choose the different path unlike most of the professionals who are in a never ending rat race.
Simpler ways to live a much happier and fulfilling life rather then aimlessly following the path of materialism not knowing the limits of their needs until it starts becoming greed.
With great examples like Rob to look at, the earth and our world seems to have a hope towards path of adapting sustainability and preserving natural resources.

This loaded with good ideas and a beautiful perspective but it is very unbalanced in many ways. For example, if this guy gets into an accident and has a traumatic injury. He will be taken to a hospital many technological machines and processes will be used to save his life and repair his body. He lives in a relatively free Society, but an invisible Defense Force with tremendous technological capability is protecting him. He is also of course, using technology developed by other people to put his video presence online. I do believe that agrarianism is the foundation of civilization, but other people in the society will have to do other things and have other ways of life. The question is how these things can mutually support one another.
just saw that at minute 32 they begin to address this
