I always found it a bit odd that Zaarin wasn't mentioned more outside of the games. You'd think the man who almost overthrew the Emperor, destroyed most of the Empire's advanced starfighter facilities and gave Thrawn a run for his money would have been referenced more in Legends. One of my favorite aspects about the Zaarin Insurrection is that it fits in neatly with the lore and addresses several potential plot holes that may have otherwise cropped up. For example, it explains why you don't see the Empire field hilariously overpowered starfighters like Tie Defenders and Missile Boats in large numbers (Zaarin destroyed the production facilities and took many of the surviving ships), along with addressing Thrawn's absence at pivotal battles like Endor (he was busy fighting Zaarin).
The one plot hole I don't get is what happened to Merrick Steele? Not only did he help Thrawn against Zaarin, but was another Emperor's Hand. Was he the reason Thrawn knew Mara Jade wasn't the only one? And where was he during the Thrawn Trilogy?
He is mentioned briefly in a few spots but certainly nowhere near what he should be. He's directly mentioned in Choices of One and Indirectly in X Wing Omnibus.
I think Thrawn's timeline is really screwy when trying reconcile the events of SW: TIE Fighter (mostly concerning the timing of his promotions to Admiral and Grand Admiral imo and not even counting that disparity the dude was practically bouncing between the Unknown Regions and the galaxy proper on a weekly basis) with other sources but Zaarin was dead midway through 3 ABY and the Battle of Endor occurred not too long after in 4 ABY.
Maarek Steele amuses me because he's had like three different skin tones. All because the art render that came with his original game had a serious case of the DCAU Luthors.
6:10 The Gammorean could breathe fire IIRC. They also tied it in to the Republic/Legacy comics and Dark Forces video games by associating the Tusken from that game with Hett/Krayt and the Grave Tusken heretic gang from Dark Forces 2 Jedi Knight and its MotS expansion.
Yes, the lore is good, but the game is still trash. Just put it the important and bearable stuff of the game on a lot of essential guide material and call it a day.
I made prelection about Zaarin campaign about decade ago, animated as XWA briefings, thinking it would be faster then making it as slideshow or learning some new soft. It worked, but I never touched modding of XWA ever again. :D
I feel like the vanilla game's finale where Palpatine is somehow loaded onto the shuttle and kidnapped doesn't make much sense. Even when retcons said the cyborg force user martial arts chick from Masters of Teras Kasi had joined Zaarin and helped. The XWA port fan made version of the events skips the shuttle part and makes the fleets much bigger, but sadly puts Vader back in his own X1 instead of making him a monster in a Defender.

Will the grand admirals ever come to new canon? We have thrawn, the most recognizable grand admiral. But it'd be cool to see some of the other ones, esspically since new canon doesn't shy away from talking about the politics of the empire. So seeing some of these men getting their positions because they were huge political supporters, I think that'd be interesting.
I don't know if you had mentioned it in a prior video or not, but have you considered looking into a reviewing the "Galaxy of Fear" line of Star Wars books? One of them has a notable appearance of Grand Admiral Thrawn himself.

Its an incredible game but I still tapped out on the first Expansion Pack mission.
I mean, Eck is the same guy that said BF2’s lootbox controversy was “blown out of proportion”. Maybe he is not much of a gamer. Idk.
