Rise (The music video) was shot after Mayu came back from her maternity leave (first child). Tamu, drummer, had her new hair style she revealed pior to Nemophila's US tour in March (2023). Their latest album (Sieze the Fate) didn't have many Mayu "Sreamming or growls" on it since she was pregnant. I presume Rise (single) was recorded after Mayu returned.

Nemophila have a hard crunchy shell but sweet, soft chewy center. I think their self-description says it pretty well "A fluffy girls band from hell." Thanks for the fun reaction!

For a band that has been around for just under four years, Nemophila are quite prolific, with at least 24 original songs and probably 30 covers. The variety of their songs probably stems from the fact that all members contribute at times to the songwriting process. Also, how many bands do quality covers of artists such as Pink, Kiss, Foo Fighters, Iron Maiden, Linkin Park etc, all with a singer who can barely speak any English? Incredible.

I just want to give an honest opinion without being some huge follower of this band, or that. Yes I did fall down the rabbit hole of Japanese bands and yes in my personal opinion, there is nothing better. So yes I am a big fan of the popular four bands. I’ve seen all, but one of them live and they are all spectacular in their own ways. Please don’t misunderstand me. I have know become a fan of over 30 Japanese bands of varying genres and have watched many live. If I could identify two aspects that draw me to this scene: First of all most of them have positive lyrics, or simply positive charisma which is lacking in many other bands. That may sound contrite, but is important. The second more technical aspect comes from Mr Marty Friedman. I’m not sure how old the video was, but he gets into the detail more than most as the former guitarist of Megadeth and Japanese citizen for almost two decades. I’m not a musician so please take this with a grain of salt. He mentioned that many Western bands use a basic 4 chord style, with some variations. Japanese bands use a basic 19 chord style with variations. Obviously, like any lottery, the additional chords offer the opportunity to branch out in many more possibilities. Combine that (In my words) of mixing genres and the world, or fan bases just increase incrementally. Therefore, you can get this band, or that band and none of them compete against each other, from a sound perspective. I do have my favorites and yes Nemophila is in the top two, but all of them are outstanding.

A different animal, indeed. Reminded me quite a lot of Girugamesh. I like this genre and it seems I have a few bands to check out more from! Also - "They Japanese'd it up" needs to be put on a shirt.

i'd love to see you check out either "Rasou" or "Happppy song" by SOOOO. He is a vocaloid producer from japan that weaves in very metal like feel into his music, he is my personal favourite artist from japan, would be cool to hear your thoughts on it! ("Rasou" is my favourite of the 2 but "Happppy song" is more popular)

It's probably worth pointing out (if someone hasn't already) that that particular Unlucky Morpheus track is a very poppy outlier for them. FWIW, probably my least-favorite song by a band I really like! Most of their rather extensive catalog is heavier and a lot more proggy. "Amaryllis" strikes me as UM trying their hand at snagging a big payoff from an anime opening song contract or suchlike. Not complaining - a band's gotta eat! But it doesn't really work for me musically...
Anyhow, Nemophila really never miss. My favorite band _anywhere_ for the last three years or so. Love 'em on record, love 'em live.

Western metal with female leads doing harsh vocals have a very different sound when they break to the clean. They tend to change the tempo. The Japanese version seems to keep the same tempo when the female lead goes to the multitracked clean vocals for that distinctly Japanese sound.

Definitely not the choir here, at least not in the case of Nemophila. Out of Saki's two bands, I was always more of a Mary's Blood fan, but I did give this song a a shot since you were doing a review of it (before the review) and I think this is my 5th non-covers attempt with Nemophila and it's just still not doing it for me. Not that I think any of it is bad, they're obviously doing something right since they're developing a fanbase that's approaching Band-Maid levels - who are 2nd only to BABYMETAL in fanbase size - but their arrangements and their particular blend of Pop, J-Rock and Metal has just not grabbed me. They're the only J-Metal/J-Rock affiliated band that I can think of that just hasn't reached me like all the others: even HANABIE who I was unsure of at first is starting to grow on me a little. And while I'm not a big Band-Maid fan, I do truly enjoy a number of songs from their catalogue. And while Nemophila's music doesn't really excite me so much; it's ok, it's fine just I don't know feels like something's missing for me. I also think a fair part of that has to do with the screechy vocal fry from the lead vocalist that rubs me the wrong way combined with the fine, but kind of flat for me Pop vocals and in the case of this song what IMHO is a pretty standard J-Pop melody. That said, I do appreciate their contribution to the J-Metal scene, as far as helping get the word out through their number of increasing fans and reach. That I am a BIG fan of.
