Peak Elton John. This album was/is perfect. And this as the opener?! 🔥🔥🔥🔥There are so many tiny details in this song that are so much ear candy, it’s crazy. His band back then was spectacular. And Bernie Taupin’s lyrics? Epic. One of my favourite albums of all time.
This album is definitely a masterpiece, back in the 70’s we bought albums and listened to the entire album, we didn’t have UA-cam, I Tunes, etc and this song I don’t recall if was played on the radio because of the length
His band is top shelf all the way. When I went to the ARMS concert, Elton's percussionist, who looked like some old man, blew everyone away with a solo that no one saw coming.
Elton is an old man. But I am old woman whose sister was in Eltons fan club. She loved Nigel the drummer I think. Many legends of boomer generation will start passing away.
@@lizbrown6943 I'm old too and I have noticed the loss of many of our idols as well. It's sad. I don't think I realized how fleeting life is when I was young.
This lineup Elton had around him in this period were still uncorrupted by the commercial vortex Elton pursued, the peak of his artistic freedom. The band added the musicians rawness together with Elton’s brilliance.
Back in those days, we heard new music on either AM or FM radio. AM played the top 100 billboard hits. These songs were often shortened from the album versions for the 3 minute AM format. Beware of that when you check out songs from that era. FM radio was where you heard the album version, sometimes the entire albums were played start to finish for the 'hip' artists. Elton's songs were largely structured for the 3 minute AM, but not this medley. It got major FM radio play along with this entire album. This album got the most FM radio attention of any Elton album
HOW'S THATTTTTT FOR AN ALBUM OPENER HUH SHAWN, THAT'S INSANE!!!😊 AND THERE'S JUST SO MANY WAYS YOU COULD DO ELTON SONGS, TOP HITS, HE AND BERNIE HAD 2 HITS BASICALLY ON EACH ALBUM👍, ON THIS IT WAS 4 BECAUSE OF THE DOUBLE LP ( GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD ) BUT ANYWAY, DEEP HIDDEN TRACKS, HOPE YOU GET TO DO AND ENJOYYYY MUCH MORE FROM THIS GREAT ROCK LEGEND SHAWN!💯😊
It helps to know Love Lies Bleeding is a garden flower. I didn’t know that for a couple of decades. Dying roses are good, but Bernie came up with the perfect metaphor.
Try Captain Fantastic & the Brown Dirt Cowboy song. It's the story of Elton & Bernie Taupin who is his songwriter. There is an album by the same name, which is beyond amazing. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road & Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy are both epic albums.
Just dropping off another suggestion for another song by Elton John, if interested. "Elton John - Honky Cat (Live 1972)" this song "Honky Cat" was written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin. It's from "EJ" fifth studio album called Honky Chateau.' This album also became Elton John's first No.1 album, and Rocket Man was released as the first single from this album to become a worldwide hit and finally this album is ranked no. 357 on Rolling Stones list of greatest albums of all time.
Really glad to see your reaction to this!!! I consider this Elton's "opus"!! From this album I highly recommend "Harmony", "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting", and "All the Young Girls Love Alice"!!! From the album Caribou I recommend "The Bitch is Back", "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me", and "Pinky"!!! All amazing performances!!!! And of course, the classic "Rocket Man"!!
Back in the mid-90's in Middletown, Connecticut, there was a band called Bates Motel that did a nearly flawless live version of this song. Another great live version was done by Dream Theater.
Everyone likes the "Goodbye Yellow Bick Road" album. I tend to go for "Capt. Fantastic" myself---but even a throwaway release like "Caribou" has some top shelf cuts.
This is the Elton John I love before tiny dancer and candle in the wind and I'm still standing must I go on? The 70's stuff was it for me. Just saying. Goodbye Yellow brick Road and Captain Fantastic genius stuff.
Heh-heh! Well, it turns out his Captain Fantastic persona wasn't only about the "character" played, but was also descriptive of his willingness to share and collaborate.
Best song off his best album. It's great when he starts the live show with this. Berzerkely Greek Theatre summer 1983. Only F----n $20🤑😁 IHe recently retired. The reason he is so flashy is because most other lead musicians don't have to sit behind a huge grand piano. He wanted to be noticed.
YEAH SHAWN, NOT BAD FOR A FAVORITE ROCK SONG OFF ALL TIME FOR OVERRRR ( 50 ) YEARS NOW HUH? 😊AND YOU'RE NOT KIDDING ABOUT THE FULLLLLNESS WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT ELTON MUSIC, YOU DEFINITELY GET THAT! 💯👍
Love early Elton. The albums get a little sketchy after this one. There are some good songs, but the early albums are gold. Saw Elton in ‘75 at Dodger Stadium. Thought that was the peak of his popularity at the time. He had a fallow period but came back strong and is now an icon. Do the next song.
The live performance of this from Madison Square Garden is insane, I know you'll love it. Can't wait to see your reaction to Candle in the Wind and Bennie and the Jets from this album also. Other songs to check out, Tiny Dancer is a must, Madman Across the Water is breathtaking, Honkey Cat, Rocket Man, Philadelphia Freedom, Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting, I can go on and on.
Some great early Elton John tunes out there, before he switched away from rock. Early REO Speedway is that way too. Check out a live version of 157 Riverside Ave, Riding The Storm Out, etc.
The album "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" is Sir Elton John's Magnum Opus. His next album was "Captain Fantastic and The Brown Dirt Cowboy", and the start of a slight creative down turn, but with more commercial success. Go figure. Then came the album "Caribou", and I lost all hope and interest. He still had some good stuff later on, "I'm Still Standing", "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues", etc. but I still like his early stuff the best.
Many great songs from this album though it is somewhat disjointed. You may want to react to Your Sister Can’t Twist, and Saturday’s Alright for Fighting. Much more connected and superior albums are Tumbleweed Connection and Madman Across The Water.Bernie always wrote the lyrics in the early albums and would send it to Elton and then Elton would write the accompanying music to it!
Heads up. Elton wrote lyrics to a couple of songs he recorded before he met Bernie, and never wrote any lyric after because he knew he sucked at it. You could also interpret “love lies bleeding in my hands” to be literally cutting your wrists and the blood bleeding down over your hands. Listen again to the outro with the guitar and vocal wailing in unison.
Possibly the best opening to any album, ever.
This song stills gives me goosebumps. Davey Johnstone is a criminally underrated guitarist. 🔥🔥🔥
If my house was on fire I would run back in to grab my vinyl collection with this album in it.
Ray Cooper on the castanets I believe.
There's nothing better than early 70's Elton John. If you listen to the whole album from start to finish it will be a treat.

FM is where I learned of it. Heard it many times on rock radio stations in the mid -1970s.
A double album without a single dud on it. How many artists can say that? Great reactions.
Do the whole album man lol. It's full of classic songs. One of many great albums released in 1973.
His band is top shelf all the way. When I went to the ARMS concert, Elton's percussionist, who looked like some old man, blew everyone away with a solo that no one saw coming.

Ray Cooper did percussion for this album

A great composer like Sir Elton ALWAYS finds talented musicians to play their compositions. This is a masterpiece. Thanks for your reaction.
Masterpiece!

great reaction...this is music
Please, please do Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting. It was his ultimate rocker!
Unlike most other pianists, Elton John's British Rock band KICKED HOLY ASS! And they SANG amazingly well together.
It helps to know Love Lies Bleeding is a garden flower. I didn’t know that for a couple of decades. Dying roses are good, but Bernie came up with the perfect metaphor.
Wow, I never knew that and I've been listening to this album since it came out.
Elton has opened many of his concerts with this song. It's a perfect opener!
Album art you looked at while listening makes the stories complete. Vinyl is missed.
Yes! And pouring over every liner note. Who played what instruments? And if there were lyrics and photos of the artist, that album hit the jackpot.
Music is still being produced on vinyl. Vinyl is mostly what I listen to at home.
Heh Heh Heh, chill bumps delux.
He had the most amazing band back in the day top notch. Davey Johnstone dee mury Nigel Olson

Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics. Elton wrote the music for most of his songs.
A Total partnership..Periid!❤❤
The 70s man !! I love ROCKET MAN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Deep Purple- Perfect Strangers........this is fantastic
Really glad to see your reaction to this!!! I consider this Elton's "opus"!! Also Madman Across The Water, Honky Cat, and Levon
Fifty yrs ago we were partying to this album what a gem.
Back in the mid-90's in Middletown, Connecticut, there was a band called Bates Motel that did a nearly flawless live version of this song. Another great live version was done by Dream Theater.
Almost 50 years on his Farewell Tour still had the same musicians with him,Davey & Nigel, sadly missing the late, great Dee Murray, what a bass player
my favorite elton john song. i want this played at my funeral.
This is one of his best songs, but as only classic rock stations played this song, not many people know about it.
Music of my life! ♥️
Everyone likes the "Goodbye Yellow Bick Road" album. I tend to go for "Capt. Fantastic" myself---but even a throwaway release like "Caribou" has some top shelf cuts.
Me too! I do like Caribou too.
Captain Fantastic is my favorite Elton Album.
Captain Fantastic is my absolute favorite Elton John album. 👏👏👏
I was thinking about requesting "Curtains", but you need to have "We All Fall in Love" in front of it, right? @@kathiek4239
You should now check out his Live version in Central Park in 1980 in front of 500,000 free admission. Brings the house down.
Heard it was more like 750.000

Man EJ always played those pianos to the point of absolute exhaustion...lol... hope they got hazard pay. And his band, 2nd to none imho :)
Love lies bleeding is the name of a floral arrangement
Heh-heh! Well, it turns out his Captain Fantastic persona wasn't only about the "character" played, but was also descriptive of his willingness to share and collaborate.
Just watched a recent performance of this on his farewell tour the other day.
Sir Elton still let's it rip.
The band at its best. and as someone else has already said--you should watch the awesome live version of this (2003 I think).
♥
Best song off his best album.

👍😊
Great reaction - Loved the smile on your face from second one. First time seeing you - Subbed!
Tasmin Archer- Sleeping Satellite....she won Best New Artist Brit Awards 1993...this is a gem
Side 1: this track, followed by Candle In The Wind and Bennie & The Jets. I mean, c'mon now. 🔥🔥🔥
Slow down he do so much love you

I was there also, monumental concert on a beautiful SoCal day, Joe Walsh opened 👍
Do Texan Love Song.
Elton loved Country😂

What is that is Castanets!
