Think one story that keeps going unmentioned is the ridiculous rising cost of running shoes! Yes I fully appreciate putting carbon fibre plates in them is/was a game changer, but I still don't agree with how much us runners are being charged. I have a running shoe addiction as well so it's costing me a fortune 😂😂 Thank God for your Start Fitness code 😜
100% Agree Chris, me and friend couldn’t believe how many runners were wearing the Nike’s during London. My biggest take away was buying my first pair of Puma velocity nitro’s. I’ve run for years and tried many different brands and I was blown away them. They are excellent daily trainer, which you switch up and down the pace with excellent comfort support & grip. I think it as your recommendation so thank you and keep up the great work.
It's awesome to hear that you found the Puma Velocity Nitro's to be a game changer! Comfort and support are so important when it comes to running. Keep enjoying those runs!
Mizuno! That’s my story for 2024. They really march to the beat of their own drum. The Neo Vista is the most fun shoe that I have run in. The Rebellion Pro probably wouldn’t work for me but I definitely find it intriguing. But ultimately I was wearing my Superblast 2s to set a new 1/2 Marathon PB last Saturday.
For me, the story is the multiple successful shoes from Hoka this year. The Skyward X is my favorite shoe this year. The Mach 6 is a crowd favorite in general and better than the NB Rebel V4 IMO. The Cielo X 1 and Mach X 2 were 2 other shoes from them that I personally love. They have multiple shoes this year that could be considered for best of the year in different shoe categories.
It's awesome to hear your thoughts on the Hoka lineup! Each shoe truly brings something unique to the table, and it's exciting to see so many favorites emerge this year.
Never thought I’d say this… but Brooks running shoes and designs/colorways this year are awesome! New tech of the year… On’s spray on shoes as well. Then the rise of the “airport” shoe brands such as Hoka and On runners.
I absolutely love puma shoes, just ran Snowdonia marathon in the fast r 2s in 3.24.no issues at all with rubbing, hotspots or the grip.highky recommend them if your looking for a new marathon shoe
I could be wrong, but there seems to be a lot more max cushioned shoes being developed (Ghost max, puma magmax, Glycerin max, etc) at high price points. Is this just a money grab from brands?
@ or maybe brands have identified a gap in the market and they are supplying something that runners want. Will be interesting to see sales of the max cushioned shoes vs the daily trainer equivalents.
Thanks for another great video 🙏🏾😊I’ve loved the Hoka Cielo X1, Mizuno Neo Vista and Nike AF3. Adidas prime x Strung 2 keeps giving more miles than expected. Any thoughts on the Chinese 361 miro nude. Super shoe, super light 100g?!
I have to give the win to Asics as the winner in 2024 for bringing two total winners to market in quantities that make it easy to obtain. The Superblast2 and the Metaspeed Paris series are just about flawless. Winner winner chicken dinner. Kudos to Asics! Hoka gets a mention for upgrading the foam and making those shoes actually available.
Agree. I don't think the Magic Speed 4 is as good a shoe as the 3 was, but the Metaspeeds cover that role and they needed more of a fast supertrainer in their lineup so making it a bit softer made sense. Everything else they shipped was very good to excellent.
Thinking about 2025, do you think there will be a Superblast 3, and if there is and they use the new foam that's going in the Novablast 5 will it be better or worse?
I think the FF Blast Max isn’t a racing foam. I doubt Asics would put a racing foam in a daily trainer like the NovaBlast 5 especially at that price. I hope there is a Superblast 3 next year but I can’t imagine at this point how they can improve it without screwing it up unless they come up with a new racing foam.
I think massive hits for me this year are Hokas resurgence building of the back of the Rocket X2, Mach X2 is a banging trainer... Skyward X about to get into my second pair. From last years to this years its night and day. Puma keep coming up with yeah ok... deviate 2 is a better shoe than the 3. Elite 3 is great but im not paying that money for a 10k trainer. Saucony are purely building upon the success of there shoes, being a relatively stuck in the mud brand, they are now killing it... Speeds Pros and Triumphs on at least 20% of whatever group runs we go together in, can't blame them to follow trends to garner sales. AF3 is a banging trainer almost as good as the AF1, if they reduced the price to 220 like the paris the conversation would come back around to them, but a paris with a discount code is significantly cheaper than AF3. Superblast is an overated shoe!
Think you're way wide of the mark re the Alphafly 3. Best shoe I've ever owned I'm certainly not someone to be swayed by what someone on tiktok says. Most of the faster UA-camrs agree also, Eddbud, Ben Parkes , The Run Testers and Welsh Runner to name a few all love them.
For me it's this move towards limited releases of shoes such as the Evo SL and Endorphin Elite 2. I don't like this change to increase the hype around shoes.
The Puma DNE3 is a great shoe, and one of the least expensive super-shoes in the market. It works at several paces, you put them on and forget about it.
Adizero SL2 surprise banger of the year; EVO SL looks like a good shoe AND is set up to be a streetwear fave in 2025 Asics full line got even better overall Hoka and On Running gain rep as making good shoes for serious runners, not just walking/lifestyle/dilettante brands The year of max cush Plated daily trainers everywhere Saucony identity crisis Weird Mizuno shoes Brooks making a few good shoes not just for walking and those with stability needs Alphfly 3 as a lifestyle shoe? Weird Nike continues to disappoint, possibly redeemed somewhat by the ZoomFly 6
Adidas Adizero Sl2 for me. Awesome daily shoe. Adidas put it on sale for 30 dollars off when it came out so sub 100. Awesome marketing. I think that’s a great way to beat out the competition.
AF3 was a miss? Considering how good the reviews are, and how many people have run recent marathons in them, the fact that the shoe is not a super new product this year undermines your opinion a bit. Everyone had time to check them out and there were still plenty of them everywhere. I agree that not everyone bought it for pure performance (isn't it always like that with something "cool"?), but just to question the fact that they work well becasue they are popular? Come on Fordy. Asics has maintained a great level this year, not everyone liked Novablast 4, but it seems that edition 5 is just around the corner. And I'm also curious where Saucony is going...
Fordy, along with a lot of other reviewers have been very critical of Nike daily trainers. You can't all be wrong! Which raises the question - what do all the elites sponsored by Nike train in? They can't all have trainers specifically designed and made just for them, surely?
Kipchoge runs in the peg I believe and yeah we could be wrong and tbh if I was only allowed to run in one brand it wouldn’t be the end of the world it’s only coz we’re seeing everything from everyone we make these opinions etc but if you know nothing better you’ll be well happy in a peg or vomero

Totally agree £260 for the SC ELITE is a joke

They’ve had a good year

They killed it Casey neistat wearing them at NYC

Puma defo. Loving their shoes this year. Magmax about to be purchased, ready to break in for London in April.
I found the hoka skyward x they are amazing on my second pair super comfy xx
snap! love the mach x2 too boot!!
I’m gonna get these just waiting for them to come on sale
Sorry to heard that you have been disappointed with Saucony .From my experience from Saucony Endorphin pro 3 to the 4 this year has been a joy !

Good point and yes price gone up for sure

I’ve found the adidas SL2 a warrior and I’ve done it at all speeds both fast and slow. Also ran a race in them and ran a PR 1.08.11 for 10mile
Amazing shoe
Love the DNE3, great for 5k’s up to the marathon. I’ve multiple PB’s in them for 5k, 10k and HM’s
Good stuff

361 wont send me shoes after I gave one of their shoes a bad review
@ sounds like a them problem!! Can’t handle honest criticism 🙌🏽👏🏽. Are you tempted to buy and review or are you boycotting?

I’m hoping Hoka have a good year next year I was genuinely gutted about the Mach x2 ripping my heel to pieces coz it felt good!

But none of them race in them? Tbf Matt might but others don’t

This drives me nuts

Wow, that comment is longer than the list of shoes I want to try! But hey, if shoes could talk, I'm sure they'd agree with you!

Fair enough
What about brooks?
Great job this year
True. Brooks are finally making a comeback.
Novablast 4 was a solid miss. Heavy and unresponsive. Hope the next iteration is a bit lively.
I think it could be mushy
Top story this year: New Balance releases a load of shoes every week - none of which fit properly and cost a fortune.
hahahahaha

2024 was the year Adidas asserted dominance over Nike for the big dawgs. On the whole, Adidas lineup puts Nike’s to shame.
Agreed
