I’m a 90s goth and yes make up was very simple back then. As an elder goth I’m finding it hard to adjust to the make up of today. It’s so elaborate and in my opinion overdone.
I know this is off topic, but you are so mf beautiful!!
100% agree
That's because the younger goths think that all of us back in the 80's-90's wore elaborate make-up and we didn't. I never do elaborate make-up. If some kids think I'm not goth just because I don't look like a Siouxsie clone then so be it.
I felt that I love the simple susiex and the banshee type look. I know I spelled her name wrong.
💯 %. Your my people 💀🖤💀🖤💀🖤💜🖤💜
In the 90’s we had to be simple because there was no Sephora or online makeup at our fingertips. When Sephora started, they sucked. We had to work with what was sold at drug stores and grocery stores. The Halloween makeup back then, was trash! It was a a small set sticks of grease paint. Or sometimes the Halloween makeup was a mini water color paint set. Ardell was the only company that made lashes. I think the only liquid liner was made by Max Factor or something. It was impossible to find black eyeshadow. So I wore dark browns and grays. Go-to brows were Wet n Wild liner pencils- 99 cents!!! Smoked out eyes done with Wet n Wild 99 cent black liner pencil and a lighter. Yes!!! I remember the 90’s. I was a 90’s goth kid. Although, my skin was very nice back then. I hardly required much makeup. I wore it. I was a rare bird with my black hair, and bright magenta roots. Everyone stared. Goth clothing was home made or altered ripped tee shirts and thrift store finds. Or if you had money, and lived by a Hot Topic or Gamma Gamma, you were one of the luckier people. Hot topic was only great when there was a Sisters Of Mercy tee shirts or Type O Negative tees. Most of the time Hot Topic sold Metallica and Tool tee shirts. Their belts and shoes were trash! When Buffalo Exchange came to San Diego, there were a whole bunch of other alternative second hand clothing stores that followed. That made dressing goth easier, but money was harder to come by than anything. Thanks for the video!!!
Man, you took me BACK with the eyeliner and lighter situation!!!! God, things were so different! I remember being so excited about finding an eyeshadow palette at the dollar store that had super dark grey, because I couldn't find black anywhere!!!
Jordana black eyeshadow was my favorite❤❤❤❤
I was very goth since 1993.
All of the makeup now is COMPLETELY different from what was more typical back then. People did however-shave off their eyebrows like I did but nobody drew brows upwards or onto the forehead. Piercing studios were hard to find so we did them all at home. Makeup was just red lipstick with black eyeliner used as lip liner. Always a winged eye but not crazy-red lipliner sometimes for eyeliner. No heavy makeup just basic-it never took me 45 mins to do my face and it still takes me about 10-15 mins. Goth clothes: we bought them at goodwill or had to drive to a special shop that sold goth clothing. It was a BIG deal. I wore vampire clothes to school even when it was boiling hot outside. Lots of black velvet. Hot topic just opened and things were pretty high quality back then. Now it’s a joke. Everyone else was using tanning beds and I now look 15 years younger than them! I’m glad I was always “me”
I’m a 90s goth .. we were wearing a super matte brick 🧱 color on the lips or black or blood red lips with a pencil , nothing on the eyes , sometimes winged liner or in the water line and we would smudge it and smoke it .. L’Oréal made the darkest kohl pencil …super simple honestly here in LA …. Winona Ryder and Johnny depp , Siouxie , the cure , Depeche Mode , ministry were just window into our entertainment. The Craft movie was much later kinda teeny boper very commercialized it was kind ehhhhh .. honestly but it was ok .
i wasn’t born in the 90s it’s just a recreation not that serious, but thanks?
It honestly beautiful your version and creation .
@@santanabarela I don't think they were being mean 😭 Just sharing their experiences from then
@@cheesedtomeetyou agreed. :( I was going to subscribe to her content until that comment. Kinda feels like old goths aren't welcome..
The second Blair Witch Project movie had an awesome goth character. I thought she was so freaking cool. I haven't watched that movie in a long time.
Yes girl you nailed it! Was kindda a 90’s-2000s goth club kid so it was definitely like that. Simple and chill but has lotta kicks in the style i think.
Great job :) I feel like this is pretty accurate. I'm 39 and still actively go to Goth events every single month and I pretty much still do all of this including the hair...but these days I also add false eyelashes. So I'm with you on the naked part without them. Like I could walk out and go shopping without them, but prefer them in Goth clubs/events.
why this doesnt have more views, this video is a misterpiece
thank you!!😭
finally a gothic makeup that I can do😭
i love the makeup and the outfit! everything looked so awesome. this makes me want to do a 90s makeup as well
Oh my god thank you so much!!! I’ve been dying for this for so long. Also you’re so beautiful :) I love learning more about subcultures, also the 90s/80s/70s and 60s are all of my favorite decades, thank you!!!💜💀✨
I don't think Goth was a thing in the 60's and 50's let alone even a term associated with the music based subculture we know today. From my research it started in the late 70's as a post-punk movement. Not sure why she said 50's and 60's.
90s make up in general was good !
For me I’ve noticed I like toxic tears, Jake Munro, black Friday’s and mamie hades makeup much more then like jade west or natural looks
And black lipstick really make my blue eyes pop although I wear glasses
Bro, the hair is on point! 90’s encapsulated in that messy bun with the lil strands left out in the front. This has been my fave hairstyle since the 90’s to this day
im obsessed with that lipstick colour! what shade is it?
I’m the 90’s baby, I am down with 90’s goth makeup. It all remind everyone of the main character from the 90’s. And I’m gonna be goth for a long period of time…….
And I love the Nightmare before Christmas, it’s my favorite movie of all time, it’s my special moment, the movie came out before I was born.✨🖤✨
i looove this look! super simple to do but also very put together and beautiful
ur so naturally beautiful bruh omg & the finished product.. ur a GOD
Since I didn’t have any purple I used blue instead and it still looked good 👍
What is name of your lipstick shade?
it looks so good 💜
You nailed it! The velvet skirt was a real throw back. I had one and loved it so much
I loved that you didn’t use eyelashes or blush. We didn’t wear either. Fantastic job❤❤❤
such a good job with the makeup! Makes me feel very nostalgic! :D Ive done a few lookbooks on goth fashion on this era, but this inspired me on makeup too! :D
New Subscriber! Loved this video off to binge the rest 😂 can't wait to see the rest of the series 😍
It turned out amazing
You are stunning. Love the music and makeup 🤍🌹
SO PRETTY !!!
Once and a while I’m reminded that I’m old 😂 I saw the title and thought…so…my makeup? You did a good job. And yes, the messy bun with the spiky bits was very popular, not just for goth girls. I will say, our eyebrows were more pointy at the top. But overall, great job.
I LOVE Goth Makeup Look 💜

what eyeshadow palette did you use?
What Lipstick did you use?
Very,,Beautiful
Name of the song instrumental it's so relaxing.
What colour and brand is that lipstick?
Um why was I NOT SUBSCRIBED UNTIL NOW
can someone explain what's loose setting powder/translucent powder. I want to buy some but I don't know where to start and where should put it for these kinda looks
translucent meaning no color for setting your liquid or cream products
practice with cornstarch or rice powder put powder under the eye after concealer , after foundation apply on the forehead, under the nose and to set any cream based product then apply a setting spray
Use less powder if you have dry skin
Moisturizer well before applying makeup
Setting powder to get after you have practiced enough would be cinema secrets translucent powder, viseart translucent powder,Ben nye colorless powder, Ben nye luxury powders, rcma no color powder or making your own
Pls tell me what shade your lipstick is
What were the products used?
what shade is the lipstick
Oh,,so,,pretty
What is the name of the lipstick?
What’s the name of your piercing? Is it a vertical labret? I tried getting one awhile ago and my piecer gave me a labret so I had to take it out :c
Yes it's a vertical labret :)
Looks like every female horror and occult experts from 90s horror movies - well done!
Elder goth here - 88 to 92 ish
Makeup typically used included...
Foundation, concealer, powder, eyeliner, mascara, lip liner, lipstick, and eyeshadow. That's it.
I used black eyeshadow for contour sometimes. I used lip liner as eyeliner and eyeliner as lip liner. The makeup was horrible and you had to stock up during Halloween. No Hot Topic, no Amazon, and no selection at beauty supply stores.
I can believe goths can afford all the makeup used today. We were broke. Panhandling so we can afford club cover charges.
this isn’t a recreating 90s techniques video lol. times are VERY OBVIOUSLY different. what do you mean afford all this, a job i have maybe? really don’t know why you commented this to begin with
what zodiac sign are you?
what happened to your eyebrow?
my one singular eyebrow, huh idk
Disks in the ears is definitely not a goth thing -it’s more of an African tribal look. I don’t like those. Especially when the earlobes are permanently ruined like rubber bands. Anyways-we wore leather spiked bracelets or chokers with BUCKLES not snaps. Boots were difficult to find because nobody but stripper shops would have the high laced platforms etc so we shopped at military surplus stores and had to buy real combat boots in boys sizes. Simple. Hair was dyed black-and was LONG or partly shaved off. Dog choker chain and leashes were worn in public. Fabric stores had lace to make veils or dresses.
nobody cares
