i definitely agree about nymphia & morphine’s look being the most goth out of everyone’s looks. it’s crazy morphine was in the bottom when she looked so good. i think Q won because at the beginning they said the runway was supposed to be more of a “neo goth” look and so they wanted it to be goth with like high fashion ?? so i guess that made her the winner. the song choice was such a let down i thought it was a joke when i heard that was gonna be the song choice 😭
i'd say Q's is more on the conceptual side with immense craftmanship while Nymhpia's is more on the high fashion/visuals route.
Q won because her outfit was the most complex in terms of technical skill. The challenge was neo-goth, idk wtf is up with all of you saying it's not goth, yeah no shit, it wasn't the challenge

@@SpaceIsThePlace_ Ofc I heard of them and they are amazing! Thing is more what we are trying to say is. That for a Very Goth themed runway Nymphia felt and looks most traditional Goth. not saying Q has no goth elements but felt more punk then goth in the Challenge.
But in reality it is 2 separate styles though. They can blend well together.
And for the most of us We were living for Nymphia and felt more like she should be the winner. But still applease for Q for making that amazing garment.

Morphine was totally in my top 3! And Nymphia was absolutely my winner. She really played up the mysterious factor. I felt the same way about Q and Saphira as you do.
The reasoning behind morphine is because looking at it closely, it isn’t crafted very well. Zoom in on it
@@nathanbrown6728 Oh I can tell that Morphine's isn't sewn perfectly. I sew for a living. But I thought Morphine's silhouette worked well, I thought the fit was great and I liked the fabric choice. Also I thought morphine came across as goth. Like if i saw this out of context I would think it had something to do with a goth look or at least Lily Munster. I think all of those things matter more than master level sewing and construction. Especially to at least put her out of the bottom 3.
They should have had a GOTH judge. I am so sad there wasn't any trad goth rep. The tiktok song wasn't even preformed well either which makes me sad because I really like that tiktok remix. 😭

I like trad goth. But the theme at the beginning of the ep was stated to be Neo Goth. Not trad goth. Those styles are very different.

Neo goth is difficult because you can't really stick to traditional, which I think is why they put morphine low, but all things considered, Q looked old and not goth, so.... Nymphia and Dawn's looks were probably the most NEO goth, and I think Dawn was going for a katy perry metgala moment which is why I feel she fit the neo-goth brief the best. but i still think it's crazy they had morphine in the bottom 3 over some other looks

i'm in my ajumma era so this was a disappointing runway for me. going to shows during my time meant siouxsie, the cure, tones on tail, peter murphy, etc. we were a lot simpler then--lots and lots and lots of black velvet & lace. and if you could find it in vintage/thrifted pieces then even better. and of course fishnets and so much eyeliner and hairspray.

I totally agree on your critiques. I think they really flubbed representing goths. And I got they wanted to reference Wednesday bc of its popularity, but then like ? Why didn’t they at least do Goo Goo Muck that played in the scene?
Ikr. They did the tik tok song cause it was popular at one point where as those vids never used Goo Goo Muck
Kind of makes me feel like, when they were planning the show and writing the challenges, they said “Wednesday is super big now, let’s do a runway that encapsulates some of the hype around that” rather than setting out to write a challenge to represent goth culture.

i was confused by morphine's critiques! i understand that the other gowns were more technical and fashionable, but morphine's look was very goth and on theme to me as well.
nymphia was definitely my winner.

i actually like the choice of using bloody mary for the lip sync, because it's like a dark pop song that can reasonably be expected for a drag queen to know, and i think it's goth adjacent enough that it can be remixed into an actual goth song, but the fact that they chose the sped up version is hysteria to me
They should have used actual goth music imo 😅 since goth is super influenced by music. Some people forget this.
You need to watch Dragula if you haven’t. Season 2 is the best. There’s only 5 out right now.

Morphine really slayed that challenge, and I wish she got more praise for her look. Not only was it on-point, but it was a big improvement in terms of the construction quality when compared to her other design challenge looks.

I saw Q as goth in a queer club kid kinda way. While not as goth as others it was too show stopping to not give it the win (imo), though Nymphia was my favourite.

Yes it’s club kid meets cinema strange ( a very popular goth/deathrock band from the late 90’s early 2000’s) their early aesthetic looked a lot like what Q did, basically a creepy Victorian or doll aesthetic . If you google them you can see it!
Honestly I loved the look. Q was giving broken haunted doll any goth would love to have in their room. Or romantic illustration

“Elder” goth here 😂, Q’s look reminded me a lot of early cinema strange’s aesthetics. To me it was a DEATHROCK look. It also made me think of 80’s new wave looks (like strawberry switchblade) yeah it’s not “nu goth” (whatever that means) but it’s def goth imo. I do agree that Nymphias look is very goth, the most stereotypical goth look imo. I would LOVE to wear an outfit like that 🤤. Also …That song was a choice… 😂

I agree on Q's. I dont like the polka dots and i feel like she should have gone with the club kid, androgynous punk look, or a spooky broken porcelain doll look, like pick one instead of comvining them. I also think the fishnets dont fit the look

Love your commentary of the looks. Dawn and Nymphia's looks were my favorite. Q's was awesome but more punk to me than goth. Morphine's look was okay to me; I liked it but it didn't wow me in terms of the dress, but I loved the makeup and earrings. I was so disappointed with the song choice, but I wouldn't really expect the show as mainstream as it is to truly use goth music in the lip sync.
This video just showed up in my recommended. It is my first time on your channel. I watch Drag Race and I consider myself Goth so I was uniquely interested in your opinion. I have not yet seen this episode so all I have to go on are the images you shared with us.
I absolutely agree with what you thought about every look. The fact they used Lady GaGa for the music is such a missed opportunity. It also shows the disconnect with the judging. The look you called your fave WAS the best. If I had to guess I would say Ru is lacking even basic knowledge of any of the Gothic subcultures. That is OK, and no surprise for she is a Glam queen. She absolutely should have consulted to give the culture it's moment though. What a let down.
Good thing we have Dragula. The Boulet Brothers are so exceptionally intertwined with the Gothic subculture they have had moments on the show that had me weeping with joy and awe. Every idea they have is impeccable, thoughtful and celebrated in a way that honors the cata-gory.

You were so real for this video, i was thinking the same while watching the episode i felt like the judges had no idea what goth is and just judged based on how pretty they found the garment to be and not by it actually being goth or not
And i also didnt get why they didnt invite an actual goth judge? That would prob fix a lot of the problems i saw with the judging this episode ( the judge was a cutie pie but it would be really nice to see someone from the subculture judging)
Q and plane are rues favourite this season so they get special treatment
There was a goth runway in All Stars 6, but it wasn’t a design challenge like this seasons.

I feel like no one tried to meet any specific goth aesthetic and its dissapointing. They seemed to think that wearing all black = goth and thats not the case each aesthetic under goth has its own specific details to them and none of them really matched any of that. I also dont give them any credit for the makeup looks becuse goth makeup and drag makeup or very similar in style and technique so they could easily just do drag makeup in all black and it looks sismilar to trad goth makeup
Not everyone is goth, shocker…they did their best to meet the theme, people are being very rude to the queens. Don’t be disappointed, they did what they could in the moment.

it's interesting to see different opinions on the matter, because all of my goth friends gagged for Q's outfit and agreed it was the rightful winner, and one of them who is a fashion designer literally said that it could perfectly sprout a new branch of goth fashion, she even called it revolutionary. but I agree if we're talking about more traditional and established goth styles Nymphia would probably be the winner
Q's look reminds me of scary clowns in cartoons, she could definitely be a villain on Ben 10 Alien Force with this look. Nymphia's dress was probably the best look in drag herstory for design challenges, it looks so chic, I really wanted to see Violet Chachki's reaction.
Also, don't be sad by the song choice, last episode we had Megan Trainor 💀 I'm afraid for the finale song because their choices are getting worse every week.
As much as I love this Nymphia look let's be fair, her ball design challange look is the best design challange look ever
@@lexwhy554yes, I think as a stand alone look Q had the best look, because with Nymphia and Dawn (who I’d say were the clear second places) they had amazing construction, but it’s all one colour: black. It means all the detail they put in was blocked out and not visible. Q's layering of black lace on white highlights every detail, making it all the more impressive.
The song choice will probably be yet another Sh*tTok song

Yeah, RPDR - missed opportunity to actually represent goth culture beyond what tiktok thinks goth is.
I'm kinda disappointed by the tv show overall... I used to be a fan but lost interest. Glad you covered it though. Gives an insight into RPDR for those not following it. And I agree with your takes on all the looks.
I think Q won because it was actually the most out of the box, while still being under the big goth umbrella. I personally love how she didn't just do black and chose that crazy pattern because out of all the girls it catches my eyes the most

Your makeup is stunnnn also agree about morphine and nymphia. Super weird episode. I like Q’s jacket. And I think she won because of that rather than for the overall aesthetic. Usually with the design challenges I think the winner is someone who does a super ambitious giant garment and pulls it off
What I loved about Q's outfit is it reminds me of being a tween/teen and wanting to dress alt, but not allowed to shop at Hot Topic so you hodge podge from clothes at home and the thrift store.
i dont think Q should have won because I think Nymphia just excelled at the challenge and hers read the most goth as well as being the most high fashion of the looks but Q's look kind of gives Pierrot to me I hate the fish nets on her chest if she had done a ruffle shirt underneath the coat instead I think it would have read a little better.

i think if you are looking for more alternative and gothic or horror based drag, dragula is ABSOLUTELY something u should watch!!! they have a lot of horror, gothic, and nerdy artists!!! it’s totally worth getting into if ur looking for an authentic spooky experience!!

Q's polka dot rose pattern reminded me of the duo Strawberry Switchblade, but I would have loved it more if she had focused more on the lace detailing of her outfit and perhaps done bolder blacks in her makeup.

Nymphia's was my favorite look that nice so beautiful , while I also would have loved to see a trad goth look i think the category was Neo Goth , a revival of Goth so I understand some of the queens confusion on how to advance the goth look especially Plasma. She seemed to apply multiple forms of goth into one look but yeah it wasnt the best. Nymphia and Morphine fall into that same seductress moody aesthetic category of goth for sure
Q's psychedelic take on goth was maybe a stretch, but I totally got it and loved it. Especially since the prompt was "neo-goth," I appreciated a fresh take. Also agree Morphine got overlooked.

I'd like to point out the all stars 6 goth runway that absolutely ate this runway up.
I read some speculations that they used up the budget on the earlier songs like Flowers by Miley Cyrus... the choice of song was soooo odd. But yeah, my friends and I shared your thoughts exactly. We really thought Morphine was great and was so surprised she was in the bottom. Q didn't really read goth at all to us so that was also disappointing.
Goth aside babes, I would listen to your opinion on queens all the time. Give that drag race review pls.

Jane wore another design challenge look that was strips of fabric . Sapphiras look was like her bob the builder look same trick . I think one of them needed to be in the btm over Morphine .

@localhotti3 OK well the slit was ugly and large and the pattern was a spider web it looked Halloween not goth. Still a gown better constructed then Morphine and more effort then Jane but it wasn't the best.

Glad to hear your praise for Morphine’s look. When she came out I was so impressed with her work! I get why she wasn’t top 3 bc Dawn, Nymphia & Q had more interesting looks and Sapphira was pretty good too. But I really feel Morphine shouldn’t have been in the bottom-if anybody, Plain Jane.

I would've loved morphines if it was constructed well. the spikes seemed droopy and like they were about to fall off. The idea was great but the execution wasn't. LOVE LOVE LOVE her makeup tho (as always)
