I have been watching videos for 2 hours most gave info but in a long drawn out way, you answered my concern in the first 2 min of your video. When i try to start my 2014 Super Glide It sounds like a machinegun in my Primary. Now i can go with rebuilding my starter solenoid. Thanks.
I've got a 2001 Dyna looks like the same starter. I'm wondering if I have to take off the primary to get to the jack bolt, or if I can get the starter out and back in without cracking the primary?? Thanks for any info!!!
@@chrisbarkley3435 To pull the starter on my bike a 2001 Dyna In order to take the whole starter off you must crack the primary. If rebuilding the piston and contacts it is possible to do without taking the starter off the motorcycle and not mess with primary. Taking starter off primary must come off.
Thanks so much. I have been dreading changing this starter for months as my bike would barely start. Taking off the primary and all. Did it your way in about an hour. No muss no fuss
I’ve noticed on other bikes they take off the front cover and drain a bit of oil and take out a long bolt, i have a 2011 dyna 1584 cc that I am rebuilding starter, is that method for older bikes?
I just replaced the starter gear on my 2009 fatbob. Starter mounts with only 2 bolts on the right. Remove your battery and tray. The starter is much easier to work off that way. Watch for the 2 starter aligning dowels when you remove starter. A large oil spill pan helped me recover one when it fell during removal.
good day... awesome direct to the point video.. how is the starter going so far.. looking to purchase this thru your affiliated link. and just want to know how well its holding up .. thank you
Great video. I watched it several time throughout the procedure. When I went to fire her up I got security lights and nothing to the starter. I even used the hard key and nothing.... ideas?
Man I am wondering if mine is going out sometimes my bike will start after the second try the first time it doesn’t do anything other than the prime pump but won’t start turn it off and on again and it comes on like nothing
Great video, Thanks! Trying to figure out why all of a sudden the Start Button on my '08 FXDL doesn't work. Seems to be plenty of juice, but when I push the button... NOTHING! Any ideas? Any videos?
The gears on the flywheel are harder than the starter teeth. When the starter starts to go bad the solenoid and spring get weak and doesn't thrust the gear out fully into the flywheel which leads to the grinding and destruction of the teeth on the starter. Sounds like you replaced it just in time.
nice vid, having a starting issue with my 07 SB. cleaned all the connection of corrosion but still having a problem so looks like a new starter. Love your bars how tall are they and what is the make? cheers
Verify that you are getting 12 volts to that small connector. If not, your handlebar start switch may be the issue. You can feed 12 volts directly from the battery to crank it too.
@Hitman0220 There's a starter relay in that circuit that could cause the same symptom. Sometimes you can swap relays if they have the same number of pins, just to rule that out too.
This video was spot on, I just changed out my starter on a 2011 FXDF Fat Bob! Thanks for posting it.
That small connector with the green wire is your starter button (solenoid) wire.

I would've put some blue lock tight on them, especially with only 24 ftlbs.
Hey thanks for the video, I'm curious of why some guys are taking the outer primary off on bikes to get the starter to seat on the gear

I've got the same question, did you have to remove the primary cover on your 2001

Glad to kno! About to do one on an 11

I put a starter on my 1996 Dyna FXDS and when I tightened the outer primary down the starter quit. Could this be an issue with the jack shaft?

Can you tell me which eBay store / user you got the starter from? I see a bunch of used ones on eBay but not rebuilt

Maybe a fuse?
I have an idea unless you already fixed it. Try moving around the box where the fuse cables on the left of the bike are connected. Weird.
Bike security light staying on?

@@IsmaelHernandez-Bolas thank you for the reply I will check that out.

@@IsmaelHernandez-Bolas I did actually see a vid of someone doing that very thing. Thank you for the suggestion appreciate it.
@@Hitman0220 Cool.
before 2007 models you have to remove the primary and drain fluid and remove jack bolt ! 2007 on.. you dont
Mines an 01, I think there is a bolt that you have to remove on the tip on the gear. So, you have to remove the primary cover.
Beau travail.
🇫🇷
Orale good video Homie, thanks.
Glad it worked out for you!
Me too!
Great video. Thank you sir.
Was that Amazon or eBay did you just type in rebuilt starter for Harley?
Here's an Amazon affiliate link: amzn.to/3xsg4lr
Hell yeah that didn't look to hard at all I was expecting a set up like a 4 wheeler with the tiny starter chain
Yea, it was pretty easy! I actually ordered a used battery box from Ebay LOL
I could be wrong but I think there 1/4 in hex not 6 mm hex
Fucking love this guy fast simple and easy , plug and play turned out great for me
Where did you get that front fender?
Numero 1....
3 YEARS LATER, WHAT IS YOUR REVIEW OF THE STARTER?
I want a motorcycle with a steering wheel also!!!
21:07 yeah just go ahead and brush all that bolt corrosion crap onto your bike engine - no problem.
Helicoil that stripped battery box.
Saw Not anymore
Very boring you need to stay on point you all over the place get to the starter !! And stay on point
