Yeah they are awesome for saving weight! But also keep in mind that you will need to pack a tarp if the weather is bad and this can add additional weight. There are pros and cons for sure. I would say that overall you are saving weight and space because you aren’t packing tent poles. Haha and if you pack your fears you will almost always pack a tarp….so the weight of the tarp is going to depend on your budget.
@@ignitedbynatureThe weather channel seems to be pretty good at predicting rain. If they’re showing little chance and I’m just doing an overnighter and looking to do some miles there’s almost no reason to take the tarp. Then when it cools off and the bugs all start going dormant you could even leave the bivy at home. It feels weird going into the woods with so little gear at first but it’s an experience worth having.
Yeah I like the weather channel, I also like the WeatherBug app. I definitely don’t like having to pack a tarp if I don’t have to and even if I do. Most of the time I don’t end up using it lol. The tarp just ends up being an extra 10 oz in my bag. Haha everything is more enjoyable/rewarding with a lighter pack and a minimalist perspective. There is just something about sleeping under the stars that you can’t beat. We were made to sleep under the stars not under city lights.
Good review. I like my Pinion. It’s a great minimalistic piece of kit for when the bugs are bad. If you are into hanging out in a tent instead of outside, it’s not that good, but if you’re only crawling inside to sleep and the mesh is off of your face, it works real well.
Thanks for leaving a comment and I love the feedback you added. I agree 100 percent it’s great when you want to dirt bag it and bugs are bad. If I was just sleeping in bag or under a tarp, I would have been eaten alive lol. I will say that I recently had a mountain lion encounter in camp followed by a deer hanging out in camp shortly after that night, probably to keep away from the mountain lion. Needless to say, I never felt more like a human burrito than that night. After I got past the mountain lion in camp thing I slept like a baby; besides the deer waking me up every once in a while 😂. But hey I’m still here and it was nice sleeping under the stars.
Glad it was helpful! Yes I am aiming to have some comparison videos with bivy sacks in the future. Stay tuned and click the bell icon for notifications.
Well I haven’t had to use it in all day rain yet, but I have used it in a few summer rain showers with a tarp and it did fine. I’ve also used it in the snow a few times and didn’t have any issues, but we have dry snow in Idaho. The bottom is made of a silnylon so it should protect you and your gear; and sagging shouldn’t be an issue because you’re on the ground and you will have a tarp. If you do use it in some serious rain I would love to hear how it goes! I hope that helps a little. Also I would check out the comments on the website. It seems like some of the comments and reviews that people left might answer your question better. Thanks again for the comment!
No I haven’t personally had any issues with condensation yet. The ventilation is really good since the whole front half is mesh on the top and the underside and the rest of the shell is a pertex silpoly material. So it’s better at keeping the moisture out than a silnylon. If I do end up experiencing any issues I’ll add it to this thread. I have slept next to lakes and streams and haven’t had an issues. Do you own this bivy? If so what has your experienced?
Yeah the whole top half of The bivy is mesh from the waste up so it is breathable. The rest of the tent is made out of a polyester fabric called Pertex quantum.
Yeah it is! With new kids it’s been harder to travel to different states. I’ve been limited to my home state and local area. But luckily Idaho is like Disneyland for outdoorsman. So much to do and see! However, I can’t wait until my kids are older and I can start adventuring more again with them!
Love the intro! What a beautiful place to camp!
Thanks! I appreciate the compliment and the comment!
Awesome Review! I really enjoyed the drone footage!
Thanks for watching! Yeah the drone is definitely fun to use in my films!
Great review!
Glad you enjoyed it
I have never thought about a Bivy before, but I might consider one after watching this. I can't believe it is only 7 oz! That's CRAZY!

@@ignitedbynature Good to know! Thanks for the reply and I will definitely take that into consideration.
No problem! I am glad that I could provide some feedback! Hopefully it helps.

That is an awesome bivy! Nice review. New follower here. Crow✌️
Thank You! I appreciate the comment and the follow! Yeah I really like the thoughtful little touches that katabatic gear put into it.
btw I followed you as well! You have a pretty cool channel too!
Great Review! Thanks!😍
Glad you enjoyed it! Stay tuned for more!

Great video! That Bivy is ultralight but I don’t know if I could get over sleeping in a Bivy! They are so small 😂
They are! It definitely takes some getting used to.
Thanks for the great review! It would have been nice to see how this Bivy compares to others.

Is this the wide version?
Thanks for leaving a comment. This is the regular version in 6ft.
Would the bottom protect you from wet ground (like all day rain)? Assume you have a tarp for overhead cover, but the ground is already wet.

Any issues with morning condensation seeping into your bag?

How much does this Bivy cost?
Right now for the 6ft model it is $139 dollars plus tax.
Is this Idaho?
