- The Hill’s live video coverage of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee will continue Tuesday at 5 pm.
The RNC’s first day saw the party rally around former President Trump in the wake of an attack that nearly took his life.
As delegates were making Trump’s nomination official, he announced on social media that freshman Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) would be his running mate. Vance had been considered a leading contender for the VP slot, despite his past criticism of the former president.
Each day of the RNC is planned around a theme in the party’s platform. Day one focused on the economy; Tuesday’s program will highlight security issues, including crime and border enforcement.
Speakers Tuesday will include former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley (R), who ran against Trump in the primaries but told her delegates back Trump in a show of solidarity.

Like them, or not, Republicans are developing talent for 2028 and beyond. Vance and Ramaswamey are solid.. young but solid. I am sorry to say i don't see much viable talent on the Democrat. Pete had some great opportunities to show goid leadership, but didn't. Same with Harris. To his great credit, President Biden appointed some potential next gen folks, who then wasted the opportunity. Sad. Pete and Kamala could have really gone places.
