5 Rarest LEGO Technic Shock Absorbers of all time

- Today, I present, the five rarest LEGO Technic shock absorbers. This is definitely one of the most recognizable components of LEGO Technic, since many lego technic vehicles require suspension. These can be considered to be some of the rarest LEGO Technic pieces of all time. Could the LEGO Technic 42129 mercedes benz zetros tri introduce some brand new shock absorbers? Or what about the LEGO Technic Cat d11t bulldozer 42131? Could this set also introduce some brand new shock absorbers, potentially to accommodate the massive size of the set? If new shock absorbers get introduced in lego technic 2021, then they could definitely also become quite rare.

I am the inventor of the Lego Shock Absorber. Let me explain. Forty five years ago when I was twelve, I was very interested in the new motocross motorcyle designs that had just started using one large shock in the back instead of two which was common at the time. Fascinated by this, I endeavored to create the type of shock system in Lego. Of course at the time it was unheard of. Back then Lego sets truly were just a little ways above Duplo. Todays parts and variety is staggering to what we had back then. Nevertheless, I began to brainstorm how to do it and this is how I did it. I took one of the little Lego City antennas for cars, the single pip ones that are about 2 inches long with the round top, and I found that a spring from a ball point pen fit perfectly over this antenna. I then took the piece that is used for pistons on the crankshaft and placed the top of the antenna into ti. Then a circular disk was placed on the antenna that allowed the antenna to move freely and be attached to an axle and the other part to the body of the car or similar and it worked. It worked very, very well. Then, enthralled I took a polaroid photograph of my invention and mailed it to Lego headquarters. A year later, the fancy molded plastic shock absorber came out. Lego stole my idea, although they made it much better than my ad-hoc creation. Strangely I am proud and angry at the same time. ROFL

the last shock absorber (10l part 32181C02) actually appeared in a fair few models, including all 3 of the racers from early 2000s (Silver Champion, Williams & Ferrari you mentioned) except that in the Silver Champion/Williams it was actually a 'clear light blue' colour which made it even rarer than the clear version used in the Ferrari and other models around that time
I'm suprised to know that. Mainly because i have the silver champion, williams and ferrari enzo sets that i received from my uncle's father who died a couple weeks ago for free (R.I.P to him) that's some great things to say when someone ask about them.

Anybody know if the "damped" shock absorber is dampened in both directions? In other words, is it on both compression AND rebound, or is it just the rebound that's damped (like it appears to be in the video of the door being shut @ 4:12)?

@@Unbrickme well I was referring more to: soccer ball, basketball ball, and panels with stickers or designs such as the back panel of the lego racers set 8682 nitro intimidator
The shock absorber of #1 was also included in 8450-1 in the Cybermaster Lego Technic Mission expension set. Part number 32181c05
Also in the Technic Mars Rover set with the translucent blue solar panels, as I recall. I bought that set around 2003 or so
The last one is also featured in the 8285 Tow Truck which was released in 2006.
The clear shock has been around for over 10 years and appeared in Cybermaster!

Those clear air dampend springs are also in the 8448 set.

only they quality is disapointing. as the spring over time works its way past the shaft seal and goes inside the air compartment

apparently i have 8 of the rarest shock absorbers and 2 of the rarest IR Receivers ever. I got both the Unimog and the 4x4 Offroader for christmas in two of the years between 2010 and 2015

3:18 that v2 receiver wasnt just in 9398 and 41999. Back 2010 on xmas i got the 7939 cargo train which also had a v2 receiver.
The v2 receiver wasn't introduced until 2012, so the cargo train just had a v1 receiver

@@wystrach_samI got it from the red passenger train but I was gifted it in 2012. I also got 1 from the 42030 set so I believe I'm quite lucky.

The 9U's are also known as Front Fork Shock absorbers.

I have this LEGO shock Absorber. But my shock absorber was not white like in the video. It was gray. I think the gray shock absorber is the new version after the white shock absorber. 2:22

I had mine new for 80€ when the set came out... Now I'm crying because the stickers cracked as hell, putting fragment of white and blue all over the place, and a sheet of sticker for this set cost 90€ without the fees, so it would mean I pay more for the stickers than for the set...
@@richardjulien1329 yeah mine has also very damaged stickers, and some other proplems like missing and broken pieces
@@ggrpfn4216 the stickers of this sets are the worst ever produced by Lego I think, there is even some stickers over multiple pieces! By the way, a cool thing with this set is that by adding a single 24 tooth gear, you can make some very good alternative models that were designed for the silver champion... ( The two sets are almost identical )
