43 year old dad here who beat Streets of Rage 4 with my 7 year old son on Switch. I told him, Daddy had a Sega Genesis when I was a kid. I bought Sonic Superstars and hid it from him till Christmas morning. Sega was always a king of Game development more Xbox and PlayStation. Nintendo paid off alotta 3rd party developers in the Sega vs Nintendo era. However, the games that Sega made were fun arcade games. Capcom, Konami etc were the main contributors to Nintendo hit titles even though some got a watered down Genesis port. The Double Dragons and Ninja Turtles were on Nintendo while Sega had Streets of Rage, Golden Axe etc.
It feels like Dreamcast era all over again..
It does, but Dreamcast never had a Shinobi, Golden Axe, or even Streets of Rage. Three of the five are actually Master System/Genesis era.

As a kid in the 90s, I always associated Sega with more unique and stylish games, and then that opinion was just cemented with the Dreamcast library. This reveal literally gave me chills. I just went back and got 100% achievements on Jet Grind Radio for Xbox 360 Arcade less than two years ago. I’ve also done absolutely everything in SoR4. Now I find out I don’t have to wait forever for new Sega experiences! Incredible
It took me a month to find all the graffiti. Didn't use any guides or anything. Just loved the game and kept playing and exploring and trying new things and areas. Would never have done that for any other game. Jet SET radio 🎉
People like to shit on Sega, but don't seem to know that they were the fucking MASTERS of presentation back in the day. Sonic Adventure alone was batshit insane for a late 90's 3D platformer

It took SEGA more than a decade to remember that they are more than just Yakuza and Sonic games.
I get the frustration, but this narrative is getting weak. In the last 5 years there have been remasters, remakes, and/or sequels to these IPs:

@@lambasted6886 it is tired i agree however this project started in 2021 thanks to two things. Streets of Rage 4 being a outstanding success for dotemu which SEGA didnt publish and the first Sonic movie. They know now there is still an audience for their old franchises and that hollywood is interested in making movies based on their games. After Sonic, at least three SEGA games were optioned by hollywood to make movies out of, out of the three Streets of Rage has a studio and a director/writer who made john wick attached and ready to goahead. These games are to re-establish and draw interest in further deals as well as in SOR case to tie in with the movie that's why its in 3D. What they showed was from 2021 early 22 pitch footage that was shown to executives in the case for JSR and CT. Shinobi from gamelizard is more near completion. But they all linked as one title.
They don't print money like Persona, that's why I bought a bunch of Sega stock this morning to show support
Every time I watch Terminator 2: Judgement Day, I see John Connor playing 'After Burner' in the game arcade. Those were the days, man. I had a Sega Genesis back in the day.

This is a long time coming for us old school Sega fanatics. Considering SoR4 only came out a few years ago, I think they could have focused on another franchise, but that's alright. New Shinobi looks badass!
From what we're seeing, LizardCube (the devs behind Streets of Rage 4) are the ones working on the new Shinobi game; taking their 2D game dev experience and artistic skills and using them on another SEGA property. I do think they gave their notes for Streets of Rage to whoever is working on the new one shown in the trailer since it looks like they are keeping the same design for Axle as he had in SoR4.
For once modern Sega teased but actually delivered, and then some.
Slopes your reaction was priceless, but yeah it feels great to have Sega doing something like this again.
Now if only we can get some of the others (looking at you Konami) to do the same with their IP's
It's amazing, it's like someone at Sega's finally taken notice of what the fans have been asking for. We just also need a new Daytona, Outrun and Panzer Dragoon now and I'll be mega happy.
That new Shinobi game is probably the one I'm most excited about from these.

I'm actually very happy with the announcement, my only slight concern is the 3d of both golden Axe and streets of rage. I think SOR4 looks million times better. I'm pretty sure Dotemu is simply not available for another since they are still working on Metal Slug tactics.
The new Shinobi alone, but Golden Axe?! It makes me very curious what the "And More!" Will be. Bringing back classic franchises, Sega has *so* much to pull from. The visuals for that Shinobi bit!!! Holy hell its perfect so far

golden axe, shinobi and streets of rage i am super pumped for. it's about time sega used their back catalogue. i was around for the launches of the mega drive versions soo i can't wait to see what the new breed will be.
OMG I never thought I'd see a sequel to any of these! I haven't been this excited from trailers since the back to back to back Last Guardian, FFVII Remake, and Shenmue III reveals at E3!

I remember that Shenmue III reveal. I went ape doodoo at my house. Almost cried like a baby. Too bad Yu Suzuki dropped the ball on the final product.

I was watching TGA with my friends, and when Jet Set Radio came on screen, one of them cynically noted that it seemed like Sega was only convinced that JSR was still viable due to Bomb Rush Cyberfunk. Which I agreed with, but my opinion changed when I saw Crazy Taxi and Golden Axe.
This feels like the start of a rebirth for Sega, and I love it. Seeing them bring back these old names that have lain dead for years is very exciting. And frankly, I feel like this is the exact sort of thing that Konami needs to go through with their franchises.

No. JSR started development in 2021 that's before the cyberfunk was announced. So they were doing this anyway. That was shown from the leak last year with sonic frontiers. In fact the video of JSR in the trailer was from 21 its not the current build. Same with Taxi. Other two are in early to mid builds with SOR starting last year. Shinobi is the furthest along.
I just hope we get a remake of Skies of Arcadia and a remake of Burning Rangers along the line, I'd play them badly

same, i am absolutely elated that SEGA is reviving their IPs and starting to make new games with them.
I lost it when I saw Jet Set Radio. The game play for Shinobi looks almost like The Messenger. Sega is FINALLY giving the fans what they want. If Hideki Naganuma isn't involved in the JSR soundtrack, it'll be a wasted opportunity.
When I was watching it, I just assumed that they were going to do some kind of compilation or Sega ages kind of thing. Not realizing that they were going to go all out on this. Basically I just had low expectations. Now I have very high expectations and I sure hope Sega can deliver.
I played Streets of Rage 4 with my in coop. I hope the new one works with the 3D engine too.
Crazy Taxi looks superb. Perhaps the Arcade Racer I'm waiting for for a long time. But I hope there are other racing games remaked too 😍

Lizard Cube (artists of SoR4) are doing Shinobi. I assume DotEmu is also involved.
I see some Darksiders in Golden Axe, SoR 3D could play like Fighting Force, Shinobi looks beautiful and the art style seems like Lizardcube who also made Wonder Boy and Crazy Taxi could borrow some things from NFS. This and Blade came out of nowhere and I loved it.
Lizard cube also worked on SoR4, their 2D art is very eyepleasing.

Jet Set Radio definitely seems to be where they spent the most budget. Shinobi looks like the Klei Entertainment art style. Golden Axe looks super generic.

I would love a new Comix Zone. The soundtrack for Comix Zone has hits from top to bottom. Challenging game, but really fun. Hyped about that Shinobi title! It looks awesome.
Let's also not forget a thing: in the last 10 years, since their lowest lows in the early 2010s (don't "but" me, Dark Souls 1 is from 2011 and it looks like SHIT, or it did before patching, and that was and is a GOOD game for Japanese standards back then), the visual quality of Japanese games has improved leaps and bounds, from having games for the ps3/4 that looked like they were early ps2 releases, to having accepted they needed to stop trying to develop their own engines, or using them, to learning that it's ok to license Unreal and other western-made engines. The quality of their output in general in terms of visuals is back to the competitive level it was 20 years ago and we all benefit from it.
One of the best holiday treats we could have gotten is seeing your reaction to SEGA's return to form announcement with these games, what a great moment to have documented, DJ Slope! The trailer even has the audacity to say "and more" which....well wow I wonder what else theyre bringing back? Thanks man, this is great!

I'm starting to think they're going for a sort of "Spikeout" or "Die Hard Arcade" style for the new Streets of Rage, might be wrong, but that's kind of how I see it.

What a fantastic time to be a gamer! Also, judging from the trailer it looks like to me Dotemu is in fact making the new Shinobi game judging from the artstyle being incredibly similar to Streets Of Rage 4.

Just wanna point out that one of the signs in the Crazy Taxi bit says undecided, in case you wanted an idea of just how early in development these games are.
I went ape doodoo when I seen his trailer. Sega is back indeed. This is the best news I heard all week. Those games look amazing. Especially that Shinobi and Jet Set Radio. Finally Sega flex their classic IPs. This was needed big time
The new Shinobi game actually reminds me a lot of the 3DS game in terms of gameplay. And that wouldn't be a bad thing at all since the game's damn good. Sure, graphics are a bit on the shoddy side and the gimmick stages are only decent, but the actual platforming stages are amazing. It is the hardest sidescroller Shinobi game though.
But yeah, lots of SEGA games. Excited for all 5 games and they said there's more in the making. But still, probably gonna take like 3-4 years for the current batch they've showed to all be released. I'd be surprised if we get more than 1 next year, but chances are we won't even see the first until 2025.
Like it's Shinobi meets Okami.

Jet set radio- the graphics & art style fit right in they just need a soundtrack to match
Streets of Rage- IMO this should not be a 3D game as SOR4 proved 2D beat em ups still work & if it's not broke why break it? As for the soundtrack i hope we get another great one. It's got a legacy to live up to.
Shinobi- Looks great looks like they're going for a sort of hollow knight look which gives it a modern feel while keeping the classic vibes.
Golden Ax-See my Streets of Rage thoughts same thing applies here.
Crazy Taxi- This is exactly the evolution path i expected this game to take & it works great for it. Just need a memorable soundtrack to match & we have a winner.
Naganuma is just a phone call away.

shinobi looks awesome and crazy taxi, infact it would be cool if there was some dead cell's inspiration in Shinobi. I am not so sure about Golden Axe as that was remade in a similar style to what was shown and was a massive flop.

I'm so excited. Golden Axe and Streets of Rage look very different than I expected, but everything else looks spot on. Also, that guy that got over emotional for the Star Wars trailer, I still watch his videos. He's so positive, he's great.
I hope Comix Zone, Kid Chameleon, and Maybe Eswat makes the cut of the lineup one day. Those games need sequel and remakes ASAP

@@datbigdude490 Not really. They may have maintained the genesis rep in the early years i agree with that but the reception for them once they came out werent great back then for various reasons. Kids may have liked the look of them but teens who was the majority of SEGA users didn't. ESwat was gonna get a western update but got canned during the great SEGA purge in 2012. So outside of that i dont think it will happen, Sega japan won't touch any SEGA western games, the only reason Comix Zone is rumoured for a return is because it was optioned for a movie by hollywood.
There's an update, Kid Chameleon and Eternal Champions are getting remake/updates. This is big, real BIG i didnt think SEGA japan would touch those especially EC if you know the history behind that series. I don't know if this is from rovio who just started on SEGA games for mobile or SEGA japan giving these big budget upgrades. But it looks like you got your wish, the kid is back.

I hope the new Crazy Taxi comes to arcades. I ain't crazy about the newest Initial D, and I would love an alternative driving game.
From what I can tell, it looks like that new Shinobi game has a similar art style to Okami, and I am LIVING FOR IT.
Also, am I the only one who thinks that Bomb Rush Cyberfunk was the kick in the ass Sega needed to bring back Jet Set Radio?
Shinobi being animated like that makes me want Comix Zone in that style!
Finally Sega remember they have more than Sonic, IP wise! Bring on Jet Set Radio!!! The Dreamcast version is awesome for its time, but it will be amaze balls to see Gum and Co return in a modern release.

What a time to be alive. These kinds of games were made for fun first. Its crazy nostalgic and insane that sega is bringing back these games ! If this is done right and they are good ; we might start to see a resurgence of games made for the right reasons instead of greed.
That other recent Crazy Taxi style game was called Taxi Chaos.
That was a while back. There's a better one called Mile High Taxi.

Well technically Yakuza had some of them as arcade games.
I have my biases, but send Golden Axe & SoR to PlatinumGames and Rocksteady respectively - i reckon theyd crush it.
Crazy Taxi could go to Criterion/Burnout dev team (if not Criterion), .emu for Shinobi.
Idk who would do JSR, i mean Platinum could smash it but don't want to just go "send it all to PlatinumGames" and be lazy hahaha.
Well you can always try out Bomb Rush Cyberfunk for something more like the original JSR games.

It's a shame that Shining Force 1 or 2 remakes or new entry of OLD shining force is there since there is some developing issues going on with the future of the series.
Those were gonna be a Shining Force mobile game. It was a crossover or something. It had some Shining Force CD in it too. Some developer in Shanghai was making it I think?
BRUHHHHHH FINALLY!!!!!! Started on the Sega Genesis, been gaming ever since. Always missed what Sega brought to the Console table, and it kinda sucks that we are not enjoying the release of a "Dreamcast 5" this holiday season.
I love how each game has its own distinct style and art direction too. Love, love, love it.

Removing nostalgia, SoR4 is the best in the series. I’m biased as SoR4 is my favorite beat ‘em up ever.
An Altered Beast in the style of God of War would be epic.
Looking forward to shinobi. To this day it remains my all time favourite arcade game. Partly nostalgic memories but honesty its just a realy great game even without the rose tinted specs. Also how good coast to coast is. Theres still room for another outrun thanks sega.
Wow. 3d SoR to stop me from playing Fighting Force & pretending it's SoR, a Golden Axe to satisfy anyone who touched that unfinished demo, &...all of this wow.

I feel trepidation about the _Streets of Rage_ and _Golden Axe,_ since they are classic 2D beat'em ups, and now seem to have been turned into full 3D, which already feels different, more like a _Castlevania: Lords of Shadow_ or something. _Crazy Taxi_ and _Jet Set Radio_ look good, if what you'd expect. However, I am super pumped for that new _Shinobi._ The art style alone is great.
Shinobi and Golden Axe look really beautiful! I still think that Sega should jump back into the console wars. Bring more innovation/competition to the industry, least that's the hope.

Honestly for me Sega won the night, I'm more excited for this than GTA 6 . The potential of what we could get now, would be amazing if Sega released some HD remaster of classics.Daytona ,Sega Rally , Nights ....

i encourage you to seek these games out via emulation, they are all good games.
Sega japan released a press statement and the way it was worded it sounds like this is all one game not necessarily individual titles being released. It looks like this is SEGA japan's version of that SEGA universe game SEGA australia was working on before they were shut down.
Jet set radio, shinobi and crazy taxi look awesome. I can't lie though I'm a little nervous for SOR and Golden Axe making the transition to 3D though. Beast riders was a travesty.
When SEGA dropped this, I wondered what you'd think of it :P Still can't believe old Joe Musashi is coming back!
