You forgot about the 'Petunk' move, its a common variation of the game It goes like this: If a player has not moved his Rook with 8 moves the opposing player then has the power of Petunk. This only lasts for a further 8 moves before being cancelled. At any time during those 8 moves the player with the power of Petunk can throw HIS or her Rook AT the opposing player. The purpose is to strike your opponent in the head scoring 3 'Petunk points' Cruically they must also shout 'PETUNK !' loudly or the move is invalidated Since it is done without warning there is a good chance of scoring HOWEVER, if the player on the receiving end of the Petunk can deflect the piece using his hands then he scores a single point AND the power of Petunk is handed to that player and their opponent becomes 'Un-Petunked '

Well that explanation wasn't very well, as it was mainly about edge cases. Who ever wants to play this beautiful game, play it without these edge cases in the begining. Just remember:
Rock - move in straight lines.
    Bishop - move in diagnols.
Knight - 2 squares straight and one sqare aside.
    Queen - straight and diagnols.
King - like queen but only one sqare.
Pawn - moves only forward one swaure each time, and can move 2 squares at the first time it moves. It eats in diagnol (one sqare in diagnol).
If pawn reaches the last line, he can becomes what ever you chose.
The goal: threat the king of the other side, and that king has nothing to do. Check mate.

The video made it a bit confusing, but you're right. If there are only Kings on the board, the game would immediately end in a draw (draw by insufficient material). For the video example they should have put a few more pieces on the board. All the best!

My last chess match was unbelievable. I have this classmate--let's call him Anthony--who has a learning disability. While I don't know what it's officially called, it limits his general ability to understand things. I can't tell you how many times he needed clarification in school. He's slow, Mr. "I don't get it." He always needed help in setting up the equipment for biology class (while we all could do it easily) and he had to switch out of our chemistry class to take his own individual (and simpler) assignments to Special Ed. Not to mention, he's an 18-year-old junior in high school. Well, he should've graduated by now. Apparently his learning disability and childhood speech delay kept him back two years, between preschool and middle school overall, so he's gonna graduate at age 20 (oh, man, that's sad). But what's even sadder is this: he _beat_ me at _chess._ Chess is an *_intellectual_* game, requiring brains and strategy. I've always been good at it. I mean, it's no big deal if I lose a match to just any-ol-body, but if it's _Anthony,_ that's just... _wrong._ Totally ridiculous. So I gotta ask...am I stupid?

He may have an auditory processing disorder which is not actually a hearing problem but it takes a while for his brain to process what he's just heard. Subtitles usually help if he's watching a film, or if when listening to directions he takes and digests each part slowly. However it's not an iq issue and once he's taken his time to process the game rules then he can win by using his creative/outside the box thinking which people usually have developed in abundance to compensate them for their apd. He's not stupid and neither are you. : )
