I knew Norma Jean. This was taken at Charleston Arbors where she lived and Jesco also lived for awhile. She was the sweetest person. When I visited my aunts there, we all used to go to the community room and talk and sing sometimes. Some people thought we were nuts but it was all in fun. We sure miss you Norma Jean. You are singing with the angels now. Love you eternally our friend.
That's our WV accent, soft & musical. Everyone wants us to be ashamed of our heritage. They call us hillbillies. WV was very isolated before cars. Our language originated from Elizabethan English. The settlers here were Scots Irish & German. The accents are fading now. I enjoy heading older WV talk.
"I always had that in my testimony at church, to build my mansion next door to Jesus, because I don't say much in church. But every time I go to church, that's my testimony." How sweet. RIP Ms Norma Jean!
I knew Norma Jean. This was filmed at her apartment at Charleston Arbors in Charleston, WV. She was such a sweet and loving person. She and Jesco both lived at Charleston Arbors at one time, but not together..I really miss her. RIP Norma Jean.

Wow -- I know this lady was ridden hard and put up wet as we say in the south. I would have loved her and she reminds me of SOOOO many people I grew up around here in the NC mountains. May she rest in peace indeed. I'm not saying she wasn't wild in her day but believe me I understand how it can happen in these places and that doesn't make her one bit less of a person to me.

She actually sings good. They sure live different down there. I can listen to their stories forever. They are fasinating. I'm not putting them down, it's just what they know. Their not bad people, they lived that way forever.
The stories about the royals are far worse, and they have no honesty at all. The good thing about the whites is they’re honest and they tell you they know what they’re doing isn’t right. They don’t deceive you.
No, people like THEM live a hard but simple life. These people do not....... Let me repeat that..... Do NOT represent West Virginia. They represent themselves and anyone else that doesn't know the meaning of an education, hard work, values, morals, respect and dignity.
That doll standing to her right. Its featured in the Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia at Bertie Mae's party....I thought it was a gift then...interesting. I didnt think they were Catholic.
They weren't Catholic. They were evangelical Christians. Those songs she sang weren't Catholic at all. Norma was a wonderful lady. She was obviously simple but had a heart of gold.
When they lived over there they still remained good friends. She did have a rough life but like she said she chose that. She did a complete 360 but still was there for Jesco as he was for her. Hank 111 used to come see them both but I missed him everytime. Jesco is a good person too when his wild side don't kick in lol.
I see she has got a dream catcher on the wall. I thought some of the family had the look of native Indians as you can see the chiselled features which gives them a good look, all be it a bit rough round the edges.
