Honestly the best thing about this device for someone like myself who plays Pokémon go only on certain weekends. I commute a lot back and forth to work during the week and being able to leave this thing on in the background to spin stops and stock up on items during the week is nice so when I have time to go out for events during the weekend I have plenty of items.
Thanks for opening it up. I was considering to do so myself and attach an NFC sticker with a Pikachu amiibo data in it. So it could double as an amiibo. Seems like it would fit.
It’s good for Pokémon Sleep. It sucks for Pokemon Go like walking around after a while it just stops catching it stop spinning. I have a third-party auto catcher and that works so much better. I paid probably 20 more dollars than the go plus and it has all the same features, and it’s probably a year and a half old now. You can turn the noise off and vibration off all I’m looking for now is a device that will emulate to go plus plus to auto throw great and ultra balls
I think it is some issue with the game software. When I bought it, the catcher was working great but it stopped spinning stops or catching stuff when I moved at all after 2 days. It started after I started experimenting with the pokemon sleep functions and the press to use great/ultra ball. Uninstalled the game and reinstalled to reset all settings without touching any of those 2 features and now the catcher has been working great again for the past couple weeks.
I'll buy one if they go on sale. If it at least tied in to Let's Go or events or something else then it'd be a bit more worthwhile, but $55 is a bit much for a phone accessory imo. Way over-engineered too, but I consider that a feature. This thing was made to be dropped--on pavement, not in toilets 😂
Yeah, I didn't pick one up until I saw one while on a trip to Japan where it was going for the equivalent of £30-35 instead of the usual £50. Especially as I wouldn't be using it with Pokémon Go, but it does remove the fire risk of having a phone which could get hot lying on my bed overnight.
I like mine. It works very well for Sleep. The game somehow got me to improve my sleep cycles better than my watch (though I really hate wearing a watch while sleeping anyways). It’s Go functionality seems good too. Mine rarely drops connection during exercise, though the auto throw is a bit weird. It seems like it only works on poke balls, but that’s probably a software problem.
Plus plus? That’s new to me. Had the regular Pokémon go + accessory. It regularly disconnected. When it would work, myself my GM and another supervisor would keep ours (or our cell phones) at the manager desk. Whichever of us was at the managers desk would catch Pokémon for each other during our work shifts. Good times. I did play again from 2021-2022 walking 10-15 miles a day. Good times.
@@user-vi4xy1jw7e funny story. Pokémon Go was my second full time job, I was just always on it and walking some where. My best friends had a bet, 60 days no cigarettes for one guy, no weed for another, (since I was sober but wouldn’t give up ciggs), mine was 60 days no Pokémon go. That led me to pursue other things and what was a precursor to it all was the events/festivals last year. The one early in the year was so bugged and horrible. Free make up event in august for people who paid? No I’m good.
Ya but does it disconnect constantly and fail to throw balls/spin stops literally right next to it? The pokewalker being hard to find some what matters because heart gold and soul silver are still being played. This not being able to be found 10-15 years from now won't because these apps will all be shut down as soon as they stop making money. What are you gonna do with it then?
Thanks for the teardown. I’ve been using mine since day 01 and I like it quite a bit. Got a plastic case snuggly around it and a zip case to put that in to throw it in my bag all day. Glad to know it’s more quality inside than I thought! I still have an unopened Pokémon Go Plus and Pokeball Plus, so I’ll prob grab a spare one of these too someday. Hope the next device is smaller again. But knowing the battery is a joycon one, it makes sense they chose this form factor!
Mu biggest issue with the device itself is the lack of particular control for the lights, sound, and vibration. Sure, they can be fine in an outdoor setting or something, but for a sleep device it can be downright loud. Physical buttons or whatever for adjusting each of those things would be more than appreciated, or at _least_ easy access to a software solution (perhaps even with the option of it being dependant on time of day or something)
Except the sound control is spread across GO and Sleep, and not centrally controlled, making it more of an issue. Hit the "Silent Mode" combo? Doesn't silence GO connect and disconnect sounds.
I picked this up to use with the sleep app and Pokémon go. Only ever brought it out with me once because the huge button just gets pressed when sitting in my bag and puts it into sleep mode. So I find it pretty useless for Pokemon Go and only use it for the sleep app.
I like mine but you are right about the glossy finish. I already have a noticeable chunk of the red side rubbed off and a big red mark on my center button.
I still play Pokémon go n was interested in Pokémon Sleep.. so I had put in a preorder for this through GameStop.. it definitely seems like a solid accessory.. just wish the magnet in the clip was a lil stronger haha
I think I'll wait for a Pokeball Plus + Plus + that'll have minimal connectivity to Pokemon Ladder and Stairs on the Switch 2. Joking aside it's nice to see them continue the Pokemon devices but it's still a glorified bluetooth button in the end of the day. Pokeball + was fun for awhile till support started to taper off and the soft plastics wore out, bluetooth kinda got weaker too. What I want is more akin to a Digimon device or DC VMU Chao Adventure with more meaningful features and connections.
4:35(ish) -- listening to this in the background while i finish 'waking up', at first i thought the JoyCon Battery might end up making the Plus+ drift...like, "A Wild Pidgey appeared! [throws Pokeball] alright! a Rattata was caught!"
Question I am wanting to know is if there is a microphone. As Pokémon sleep has the ability to track sounds while sleeping when using your phone. But when using my Pokémon go plus + I don’t believe it does such in listening. But if there is a microphone perhaps it just has yet to be enabled through an update?
@@samuelturner6076 he didn’t even mention that there was a speaker. I know we all seen it and knows it’s there. Seemed like the focus was on the antenna and the main board and the battery. Which is why I commented as I am not gonna open mine up to look. Could have a microphone that is just not functional. But meh. If it did I’d rather it not listen to me sleep. That a bit over my comfort level. But Pokémon sleep and the go plus+ for the past month now have improved my sleep and daily energy level.
I was wondering how much flash memory it has. I didn’t connect it to my Pokemon sleep app for about 5 days while still taking new measurements every night and it uploaded all of my data when I connected. I wonder how much space I used lol
It using joycon batteries is very reassuring so if for whatever reason it dies finding a replacement will be easy because the Switch is one of the most popular systems ever made.
My buddy and I both bought them. Mine has difficulty with the sleep recorder not working even though I'm doing it correctly. It is very glitchy maybe because I bought one of the first batch models. It stops catching far more often that the Go Plus did. It doesn't operate based on settings well either. Such as if you mark it to spin stops but not auto catch... it won't spin stops unless I turn the auto catcher back on. Also, when we set it to use Great balls it will after a time set itself back to red poke balls without warning even though I have over a hundred or more Great balls. If you don't need it I recommend waiting until they fix the many issues. I use mine because I'm disabled and whether working the wheels on a wheelchair or driving, I can't watch my screen while in motion. It doesn't live up to the Niantic hype.
I have one and I think it’s really good and holds a good amount of charge, I find if I’m driving I will still catch Pokémon at a much faster (car) speed and spin poker stops etc what’s not to like
Love it, especially the sleep function with GO. Get 2 daily hearts with my buddy, so it’s even quicker to get friendship up. Plus the auto catching and spinning.

Funny that the only joy con component is the battery, and ironically having drift issues on this device would actually be a plus to help get extra distance bonuses.
my only issue i have with it is accessing the controls in pogo. I change my settings often due to the frequency i play so i constantly toggle Pokémon catching on and off to replenish my stash of balls. Having to click through the menu so deep to get to the settings is kind of dumb. i wish i could just hold the pokeball symbol or something to get the menu to pop up instead of having to click through 3 different ones every time.
My PokeWalker survived the washing machine twice and I have no idea how! All I had to do was to change the battery after an accidental wash and it started to work again

if u want a Decent Auto Catching n spinning device the duomon is by far the best. PLUS u can connect it to two accounts at once. So u and your SO can say go on a walk and u only have to carry one gotcha for the both of you.
