Nepo is struggling now, this game shown that he was mainly playing against himself not against Magnus. Coming back from this requires nerves of steel that only the likes of Fischer have, I fear Nepo lacks the ego to believe at this point.
Fischer didn’t have nerves, he pulled a Staunton and wouldn’t even play Karpov. Kasparov vs Karpov from 84-85 was the epic WC story of nerves. Fischer indeed. He was brilliant no doubt, but hardly a pinnacle of fortitude. I suspect you’re right about Ian though sadly.
Let’s face it, as poorly as Nepo played this game this is easily the most entertaining world championship match in recent history. Game 6 was amazing and could of easily gone the other way. I'm rooting for Magnus, but I do hope Ian gets one back just to see a good fight. Making it to the championship match is no small feat, for sure. Blundering in a critical moment must feel extremely painful, but he's gonna recover from this. I kinda wish the match was longer, it would be much more dramatic, as in a 14 games match a mere 2 game lead seems like an impossible thing to overcome. I don't know who said that Kasparov would never apologize for a defeat like Ian did and that it's a sign that he feels defeated. Comparing two different personalities like that is unfair. Kasparov was a toughie from the Soviet Union, a more toned down version of Fischer (who was a very odd person). Nepo seems like a really nice guy and he can do whatever he wants. Fair play to both. The respect each of them has for the other is visible. Must be tough for Magnus not to seem cocky, as tough as it is for Nepo to not have a complete breakdown. I think he would have shown up for the press anyway but the fact that he's facing Carlsen is even more of an incentive for him. He taught everyone a lesson about gracefully handling a defeat. And not a lot of people know how to do that.
idk how to feel about ian. i mean i find him amazing for answerring these questions truthfully and respectfully even after such a horrible loss, but at the same time i find it disrespectful how he's barely ever on the board, it almost feels like he doesnt wanna be there and magnus is competing alone
That is not at all related, you are allowed to be away from the board, and moreover, the players are playing to win, and for some thinking away from the board allows them to make better moves. It is not at all a sign of disrespect playing for so many hours trying to play such that you are comfortable, and where you got the idea that Ian doesn't want to be there, that is outrageously disrespectful to a player of his caliber. Of course he wants to be there, he has worked his entire career for such an opportunity.

lol
While I apprechiate Jan being frank about losing, I also think that it proves that he doesn't have the fraction of last fraction of a percent that separates the WC's from those that almost make it.
interesting theory. i would think that his mentality would be healthier over the long term at dealing with failure than someone who gets too emotional. also he's russian...
Always liked Nepo but this made me like him more 👏🏽
I have a huge respect for Ian.
can someone ask Magnus how the rook moves? I know he already answered the knight question ...
Now I see why people hate Maurice ashley
True, the last thing I would want after a bad game of chess is to be scolded by a cocoa puff.
@@chloegpt Bloody hell hahaha, that shouldn't have made me laugh
@@chloegpt there's no need for racist remarks

I need this conference subtitled😭
24:05 Maurice asking not so smooth questions once again
he is a great guy but he really needs some charisma as an interviewer. Weird thing is, he is quite charismatic when it comes to analysis.
@@rohmann000 What are you? The charisma cop? he is famous and making money while you are unknown .. End of story
@@lllllMlllll Have you heard of the ad hominem fallacy? Try making an argument instead of attacking your opponent next time my friend. :-)
Also, the fact that you are rich and famous doesn't make you good at a particular job. I fail to see the logical link between the two. Either learn to argue, or be about your business
Surely.. we want Magnus to win...But It's very sad seeing Nepo lose..
I love that everyone is treating Ian as if he's a cancer patient after this game
Hahaha, true
Yeah sure people like you can only give best wishes to cancer patients 😔
Hahahaha so brutal that he has to sit there in front of everybody almost right next to the happy winner and explain to everybody how losing feels. I think the format should have somehow been different than this....
Lmaoo
Nepo is the best sportsman in Chess
BTW: Anyone else feel like the journalists from India have had the best game related questions? They seem to mainly ask about moves rather than general interest questions.
Agadmator should be in that chair instead of maurice
People will never play b5 again
The man has poise.
idk how to feel about ian. i mean i find him amazing for answerring these questions truthfully and respectfully even after such a horrible loss, but at the same time i find it disrespectful how he's barely ever on the board, it almost feels like he doesnt wanna be there and magnus is competing alone
Maybe you’re new to chess, because it is very normal to move around. Even Caruana explained recently that you don’t wanna look at the board 100% of the time and sometimes is good to walk around and stuff
@@micachakraborty2630 Agree with you completely. Though Nepo lost, I still like him for the human being he is. Showed a great character by attending the press. Magnus did not show up when he lost to Karjakin in 2016.
