Man Nepo is an absolute class act. He must have wanted nothing more than to go crawl into a hole. Serious respect for how he has conducted himself.
100% Nepo is showing so much class in the face of horrendous questions. Did you cut your hair out of shame…wtf?
If all I had to do is play the world champion and get interviewed about my loss for 800K I’d do that any day and happily
@@radicalbradical3164 No would ask you to do that though so your pointless ass comment is not needed.
Nepo is turning into one of my favorite Chess players just by how he conducts himself when he is struggling like he is.
@@joshuafisher1873 what does no one asking me to do that have to do with what I said? I said at the end of the day him losing doesn’t matter he made more money than all of us and is still a way better player. You’re def rated 1200
respect for nepo for having such good sportsmanship
There is a 5000 dollars penalty if you don't show up.
finally a decent reporter at 17:30 and again a good reply by Ian
@@polymorphicprocrastination5345 But he is also getting paid €800k-ish. Is €795k really that much different?
Mad respect for anyone tolerating so much pressure.
@@Isometrix116 Wouldn't miss 5k if all I had to do was show up. Plus, some sponsors might not be too happy with some of the stuff Nepo be doing. Could be losing some money there.
Nepo is incredibly gracious when he is disappointed by his result, his willingness to answer what seems like obvious and impolite questions gives him the appearance of a person with a lot of intelligence and control of his person.
Ikr, some of those questions about his blunder almost sound disrespectful at times
very good assessment of what happened here sir
Nepo earned my respect
True sportsmanship !!! Respect Nepo
I know seriously, some of these are like "hey nepo... did you know you could SUCK this bad? do you know what I mean by the word SUCK? How does that make you feel? How did you feel at the moment that you sucked so bad?"
I honestly feel sorry for Ian! He knows it‘s over and yet he shows up for every press conference. Keep up Ian
He's only there so he don get fined
He must because they are professional
It is in the contract. He wants that whole 800 grand. I will take his place and gladly admit Magnus is much smarter than me for eight hundred thousand Euros lol.
He has to pay fine of 5000 Euros if he doesn't show up
it aint over
Mad respect to Ian. Not only for being such an class act after another hard loss but also to deal absolutely brilliant with some of these questions shows how big his heart really is...
Keep fighting, you are truly an inspiration!
What I have learned from this is that I have come to respect Ian Nepomniachtchi a lot, and that he is a class act.
And that Magnus answering these questions is trickier for him than coming up with moves over the board. Geez
He's much better at chess than articulating lol
It kinda seems like he’s trying to not disrespect Nepo either. But then again he did call his move absurd haha.
@@jakebame3530 well to be fair most people including Nepo would call it absurd. In a world championship blundering a piece for nothing is not at super gm level. To 700s it might be brilliant, but its absurd for the world class standards
don't forget English is not his first language!
@@jakebame3530 I don't think 'absurd' was meant as disrespect toward Ian. When chess players look at their board while it's not their turn, they disregard possible moves by their opponent that set up easy counterplay. I don't waste time waiting for an opponent to walk their queen into a royal fork, and at the GM level, as soon as you see that c5 sets you up for c6 to trap a piece for easy capture with no compensation, I imagine you forget that the possibility exists for that move to be played and focus on their strongest possible moves. So when you see a GM play something that you've already recognized as an obvious mistake, I imagine it would be a shock to realize it was really happening. It might even feel absurd.
14:00 Magnus' response to the question about adjusting the piece was ICONIC. "Do better" lolololol
Even as a Magnus fan, i hope nepo wins a game, if only one. He’s lost his vigour after game 6 and 8, and its still affecting him. Hopefully he gains his confidence back. Also, mad respect for him for staying so composed during the interview.
Yeah but if game 6 is affecting him so much in which he didn't make any big mistake/blunder, just imagine how much this game will affect him !
Exactly what I think!
It's over.. I doubt Nepo wins a game at this point.. Magnus is out for blood
I feel the pain Ian is feeling behind his “OK” looking smiling face
No worries champ, you’re battling the GOAT of chess…❤️
GOAT of chess ???
@@Sergey_Derin Greatest Of All Time
@@Felms99 who?? me??
Is that a joke?
Magnus is the only World Champion who's also a champion in shorter time controls. He is just dominating.
Kasparov is my favorite, you have your favorites. But we should not deny: Magnus is the GOAT
Nepo is being the best kind of sportsman, admiting mistakes, showing up what a class act!
I'd have to give it to Magnus for this one.
He was trying his hardest to be respectful when addressing that c5 blunder by Nepo(admit it, that was a HORRIBLE blunder for a Chess Championship game where you are up 40+ minutes). Plus, being baited with questions, like being asked about adjusting a f*cking Knight for 0.8 seconds and not saying "Adjust" when his opponent isn't even there, and if he felt sorry for his Nepo. What kind of questions are those🙄?
I respect magnus talking about the queen E1 idea that he missed before talking about the c5 blunder.. Ian was so focused on Magnus's answer and he delivered it nicely and respectfully i hope ian recovers fast
It was rude to ask if he cut his hair because he felt ashamed. Respect that he even answered this question.
This conference is so heartbreaking. The guy messed up, give the guy a break!
So u want to break him ??
comentators always make the dumbest of questions given the situation... like "why did you loose?" omg... what kind of reply are they expecting?
Amen!
@@respuestadirecta5458 Commentators are stupid people. Stupid people do stupid things and don't realize they're stupid. It's a form of bliss.
“not this again” - exasperated Magnus
"do better"
I've gained immense respect for Nepo's dignity under fire.
9:21 - guy basically asks magnus if he felt sorry for Ian, while Ian is SITTING RIGHT THERE!
DUDE!
Journalists only care about click-baiting, it's so annoying.
15:06 - guy explicitly asks him if he felt sorry for Ian
@@See_doh the fact they asked so directly after the first time already happened, like, there's a certain point you should just not ask the question people give you
They are studying journalism for 3-5 years just to ask silly questions like that.
One of them also asked: „How do you feel now Ian“?
He was probably thinking and preparing that question for decades.
Like wtf, what do you expect him there to answer?
Man this community is what any gaming community should look like. Haven't seen any toxicity. Y'all are a positive awesome bunch. I'm happy to be a fellow chess player too. Let's keep the good vibes boys
too bad games online are full of trolls and rage quiters lol
Whats the problem with rage quitters? To resign is a sign of rispetto for your opponent. Now, there are few people that stall till time is over, and they're really the biggest problem.

I'd say this particular comment section is an outlier. I've not seen a more toxic game community than the chess community.
@@aquirick well. You should be able to quit and admit that you lost. Rage quitters rage because they can't accept that their opponent is just better.
The look on Ian's face when Maurice says "Thank you for being here" is priceless.

Bro I feel so bad for Nepo, he seems like he is such a nice guy. Super impressed with how he handles himself and his general humility.
He is! Watched a lot of commentary videos from him
14:20 Magnus with an ice cold reply to a stupid journalist: "Do better" hahah
Best part of the whole thing! Maurice is extremely bad at this, I feel like he was thrown to the wolves. He is sitting between to far superior players and asks weak questions.
I used to love Maurice bcoz he’s always a nice person etc. But I know he’s team Magnus and h the way he conducted this press conference is just so awkward and ANNOYING! He is a good chess player himself. He knows well what’s the feeling after blundering a piece. AND in the WCC. Come on…you should just let both of them rest and chill in their room for the next game!
@UCiBwGUK04JQYuF_sQTKadFw What? If you look at his body language he was clearly just adjusting the piece. People were just trying to cancel Magnus. Hikaru was saying that Magnus’ body language clearly stated that he intended to move the knight, salty as always.
@UCiBwGUK04JQYuF_sQTKadFw but as Hikaru stated, it doesn’t really matter as Nepo wasn’t there to say anything and made a move instead
@@xJoinable awful tall talk from Hikaru, considering the only body language he sees of Carlsen is typically from being on the losing side of the board lol
It should be mandatory for reporters to have at least ELO +2000 in order to ask questions
Maybe even more lol. +2200
and IQ above 90
Totally agree here
Yes to ask how the knight moves :D
Sagar Shah is easily having the best questions. Asking about moves and mindsets in critical positions.
He is an International Master as opposed to other noobs
True
@@shouldersofgiants4649 some GMs are asking questions as well.
And you can see that magnus has respect for him also
I agree. Sagar always asks the most interesting questions about crucial positions in the game. Most of the other "journalists" are simply silly and rude, especially towards Ian.
Nepo has now lost the last 3 out of 4 games but has also cut off his manbun. Overall a good week for him with solid decision making.
he is jsut on a tilt after that long game ,, this is not nepo by any means ,,
Huge respect for Nepo! Under each of his smiles there is pain, and even though he lost, I really respect this man! He indeed is a legend.
LMAO pfp
I hope that Magnus will win whole match, but I hope even more that Ian will win at least one game. Both of them are such a great players, I got my fingers crossed for either of them.
Yeah I agree. I'm definitely wanting Magnus too win but would be nice too see Nepo win at least one game.
At this point it’s very hard
If someone tells Ian how much he dominated in games 2-5, that he just lacked the conversion technique
He could gain confidence back and give Magnus a gr8 fight for his title
But it’s really hard now, a person can still bear pain of physical injury and play gr8 chess, but if a person is broken mentally, I don’t think he stands a chance.
I just can hope that Ian doesn’t get trapped into depression or something, that would be too much on that poor soul!!
If magnus loses he will lose like 20 elo rating, and he is the guy who care about his rating so it's very unlikely he gonna let it happen.

Like Nepo said, better to be respected for your chess play than for your press conferences after a terrible game.
@@tomatoisnotafruit5670 I agree, but in terms of a player and person I respect nepo more. That question that brought attention to the respect for Nepo on social media is exactly what my heart needed
Why would they make Ian do this. Like wow, if he declined this interview it wouldn't have changed my opinion at all about him, he is an absolute world class. He has worked his whole life for this opportunity, and we watched his chances go away today.

Nepo is holding increadibly I would just cry and even Magnus seems to feel sorry for guy, at least this question around 5min mark...
Even great players blunders. Even Bobby Fischer blundered a bishop in a similar fashion.
It happens to everybody. We still like human chess more than engines chess. An engine cannot earn our respect like you did Ian, no matter how accurate it plays.
to everybody beside magnus xD
No sugar coating. Chess players really don't mince words. It is quite a change from the usual pro sport presser... I much prefer blunt honesty over fake diplomacy.
I mean c5 was a big blunder, even I saw instantly that it traps the bishop , but during the livestream, c5 was suggested by Fabiano Caruana and Judith Polgar
But Kramnik sad that it can be dangerous for bishop several minutes before this move
Did they really?
The amount of pity towards Ian I see from the comments (not just here, but pretty much any video concerning the last couple of games) is just nonsense. He is not only a professional chess player, but one of the best in the world. Losing is part of the game, even at this level. His opposition is arguably the best to ever play.
The amount of pity he is receiving could be even more detrimental to Ian than actually losing the Championship.
💯💯💯
Very good points. Well said
Can u actually call it pity tho ? Or sympathy ? Cuz they r different.
There's a difference between losing at any tournament, and losing at the world championship. This is the high point of Nepomniachtchi's career, the moment he has been building up for possibly his whole life. Every other tournament has been to gain elo, to be stepping stones to the candidates, and then to the championship. The stress building up is probably something we ourselves will never get to feel. To lose in this event you have built up to your whole life, it must feel absolutely horrible. Every loss, a thrown-away chance. Remember, he was playing very solid chess up till game 6. It is very clear that the mental pressure of the losses is getting to him. Yet still, he remains calm and hopes for another chance.
We aren't showing pity, we are showing admiration.
if Nepo allows internet comments to mess up his play, then he has bigger problems then getting smoked by Magnus
I have become a huge fan of Ian. I hope he wins atleast a game in this championship. Then goes on to win candidates and challenges Magnus again.
The composure nepo shows, what a classy person!
The guy who asked the samurai haircut question at 9:41 though......deserves to be balded 🙄😡....I almost wish Jan wouldn't stay so composed and instead put the dude back in his place...maybe him being so civil is proving an incentive for thr interviewers to overstep their boundaries....I'm sure he wouldn't ask magnus these kinda questions if the roles were reversed...
Yes, it was so condescending! Asshole question. Imagine if he asked Hikaru something like that lol! He would get destroyed for being racist. He probably isn't dumb enough to do that, but he is a complete jerk. Might as well have asked him if he planned to commit suicide after being humiliated publicly.

Ian's half-smile
If the Players wouldnt have to waste their time, recuperation phase, mental+emotional reserves for these unnecessary, drawn out, always the same, unfunny and uninteresting interviews they would definitely perform better and be able to actually enjoy a final like this between each other.
Its like interviewing two Boxers in between the rounds in their 1 minute break, where they try to catch some new breath and focus their mental energy for the next round.

Honestly no shame in being second in the world. Seriously he could come back next year and do better. As someone said before Magnus occasionally beats chess engines. Magnus is so gifted and his defense is impermeable which causes people to blunder.
