    I got a Freelander. A couple of years ago we had the worst winter I can remember and it just snowed and snowed for months. It was the first time I had a 4X4 and it was absolutely great in the snow.

    "I've just fallen into the snow upto ma arse" lol :) Great video guys, thanks for posting it. Two of my favourite things, Scotland and Freelanders!

    In the clip where it struggles ,it was on its belly and the traction controle etc was out of action due to two dead sensors. it could probably out do the disco I dont think youle be disapointed. But beware their are a lot of freelanders out their with the prop shaft removed have a look underneath

      Correct . Traction control not working, Hill decent not working, and ABS not working

    I've actually wondered about that myself, so I looked it up... due to some EU regulation, a lot of SUVs had to have their lights moved to the bumper in the nineties. It's due to regulation having to do with being able to see both rear lights from a certain angle, which on cars with one wheel hanging off the hatch like that doesn't work.

    @ragnail  12 років тому +1

    I was using Goodrich General Grabbers. the traction controle etc wasnt working and it still kept going, great cars Ive since baught another one. Cheerz mate

    @maxsterslandrovermad They are briliant cars we have nearly 2ft of snow here and I have been driving around quite efortlesly. Only when it bellies out ot needs some persuasion Goodrich general grabbers make quite a diference.

    I live on snowdon and have had it deeper than that. Secret is tyres and driving as the freelander is great kit and won the camel.

    Why O why did L R position the brake lights so low down.. I get fed up with people helpfully informing me I don't have any brake lights when the middle one is flashing at them and they missed the lower ones.. Brake lights should be above the bumper.. and why o why use vertical clamp bolt n nut battery terminal connections.. craziness..

      Yea,they are the same on the Facelift.I'm gonna look into re-wiring mine,they would be better as convensional Fogs

    • @Keepingitrespectfulmostly.

      @@squirmyrouter "facelift"? FR 2? There is a way to do it. An electrician on a Land Rover owners site on FB a year or so ago described to me how a few cross over wirings would resolve the problem. Ill try to look out for it to copy and paste if I ever get time.. It's very annoying and potentially unsafe..

    Very impressive - an amazing car. Did you have regular or snow tyres on?

  • @themadchook
    @themadchook 9 років тому +1

    up to your thighs surely the technical term for that is ba' deep !! nice video ive just bought a td4 and have noticed when in mud the front wheels spin quite a lot but the rears not as much is this normal and how the 4wd works on these. i noticed yours doing it in this video as well,cheers matty

    • @ragnail
      @ragnail  9 років тому

      Check the propshaft is there some times they are removed. There is a limited slip diff on the prop, if the front wheels spin the back should push you out, there are sensors on all four wheels so that if any start spinning the power goes to the others.If any of the sensors fail like in this video they all fail and its just 2 diffs with limited slip in between and because off the limited slip less power goes to the back wheels than the front but all 4 wheels will still drive and get you out of the mud or snow, like in the vid where it was baw high, give or take a baw hair or 2.

    • @themadchook
      @themadchook 9 років тому +1

      Cheers had mine on ice today and front wheels spun quite a bit with trailer attached then it felt like rear wheel s engaged so think its working ok .and yes prop shaft is there. Lol

    I like these type of Freelanders. I have also driven in snow like this with both of my RAV4's (97 and 04) Lots of fun. Also like that there are no "normal" cars on roads like this in the winter. The freedom that light SUV's can give a person...priceless!

    IMO, a great, cheap way to get into 4x4 off-roading is to get yourself a Freelander and get some proper chunky off-road tyres for it.

    Most important: STAY ON THE GAS when the wheels spin. These electronic AWDs need spinning wheels to distribute the torque to the wheels that have traction.

    • @Nabrach
      @Nabrach 5 років тому

      If one wheel looses traction and spins the electronics would stop that wheel from spinning and the power would normaly go to the other 3 wheels to pull you out. Due to a wheel sensor fault non of the electronics were working which means that when one wheel spins it takes virtually all the power away from the 3 that have grip. also the snow was up to 2' deep in places and the car was at times on its belly with the wheels dangling but I still got up and over that hill.
