Indonesian often gets listed as one of the easiest languages in the world to learn and understand. Not surprising they all managed a victory on this one.
Oneof the easiest language to learn, and gets complicated in society because we did not really follow the formal format in society. we mainly said things based on context or just use gestures. like, nodding as yes, or say yap, iya, ya, hooh, hm (like un in japanese), okay, and such.
it goes deeper than just must be easy to understand bcs to unite lots of people, need to use an easy language. An easy language doesnt come in one day. It's one of the easiest language in the world to learn because historically, it came from a language that was once a lingua franca, Malay language, one of Austronesia Language branches. Widely used in Southeast Asia during the trading-maritime period by a lot of traders from around the world to trade with the locals. From Malacca, Java, Arabs, China, India, Ryukyu and more. And to unite the nation with a lot of ethnicities; local indigenous and tribe language and accents, the founder of the nation of Indonesia adopted the lingua franca language to use daily and officially. Because everyone technically already know or at least exposed to the language during that time due to its lingua franca stats. And they also share a long history with its neighbours (the Malay peninsular, Singapore, Brunei) so it only makes sense to adopt the same language as its neighbouring nations. The End lol
I like how Bae was doubting herself if she was right. Its okay Bae, its just how native language speakers pronounce things vs people who just heard of the phrase recently.
Learning the formal one is easy. Probably most westerner get stumped on the velar nasal sound "ng-" like "meNGApa". Then a native indonesian spoke and you got no idea wtf the words they use since most use colloquial form instead of formal. Not to mention dialect and also the introduction and intermixing of local languages. Easy to learn, but not as trivial to master.
@@majesticfoxprobably the hardest word to pronounce is "mempertanggunggjawabkannya" which means "to take responsibility of it" Because most foreigners don't know how to pronounce the "-ng" and "-ny"
@@TheyCallMeDio "-ng" is common. "ny-" is a bit harder, but still trivial. You'll get westerner say "nya" (cat sound) easily. "ng-" on the other hand is the harder one, which doesn't exist in "mempertanggungjawabkannya". English doesn't have "ng-" sound, and as far as I know it mostly exist in SEA. The hard part about that long word is just its length.
I think "segan" here will fit more to "unwilling" rather than "tired of". Tired of is just "lelah" but here Segan is with Tak Mau. Both are similar in meaning. So the saying should be "Unwilling to live, but don't want to die." Segan is more towards "not wanting/unwilling/not daring" rather than "tired of" like, you can even use "Segan" when referring to how people react to someone like "Orang segan dengan dia" which roughly translates to "People fear him" an description that refers to how people do not want/unwilling/do not dare to act audaciously to certain things or somebody.
@@muhajier2239that perfect, this proverb actually mock to people who did nothing in their life cause they don't have a goal nor do they want to try to have a goal
"Reluctant to live, unwilling to die" is more proper IMO. I can see the two of them mangling it quite badly, and even if Nerissa was between them she wouldn't have known how to correct it, which would have led to the other two unable to understand whatever mess did come out. Instead, Kobo right after Miko meant she could recognize the saying, disregard any minor errors, and just give the correct version on.

For ID member they pronounce the proverb similar to Malay sound than Indonesian sound kinda suprise me. Both Malay and Indonesia are identical in text but have very distinctive sound. Since Indonesia did use Malay as base it make sense huh? Yeah, we also have same proverb here in Malaysia.
From my understanding, the Indonesian language is Malay-based, with a unique phonology and vocabulary derived from languages and dialects in Java, along with borrowings and imitations from the Dutch vocab.
Because it is a proverb. Usually they use a stylized or more formal words for proverb. Also because of that it sounds different than the normal colloquial sentences. An example the use of "tak" as in "tak mau"; normally people will just say "ogah", "ga mau", "enggak mau", in increasingly polite order. Using "tak mau" would be reserved when you really-really don't want to and want to make it a "performance" for how unusual the word is (usually as "Tak mau lah"). If the proverb were changed into colloquial it would become "Idup males, mati juga ogah."
@@cherrytreekeeper It is non formal. But it is generally used more often than formal. That's why the "indonesian sound" is more attached to colloquial indonesian rather than poetic or formal indonesian. Which is what the person wondered.
