- Three police officers were killed on April 27 in an ambush in Chile, prompting President Gabriel Boric to declare three days of national mourning.
The officers were patrolling the Canete commune, in the Biobio region, when an armed group opened fire and set the van alight. Firefighters found the van with the bodies inside, local media reported.
The Chilean police, Carabineros de Chile, informed X they were investigating the case to find those responsible for the assault.
The ambush took place in a conflict zone that has suffered from incendiary attacks against farmers, Mapuche residents and officers in recent years, according to local media.

Really feel sad for the loss of precious lives it's really bad to see crimes spreading fast and uncontrolled....people should respect the laws and regulations and these officers are for our protection I don't know why criminals are targeting govt officials and police and armed forces....people should respect and love them for they are performing difficult duties giving up their comforts to protect people....

Why do they no just start a military operation then? They are not at war, so military has not much to do anyway and it would give them the needed expirience. Im sure they know where they are hiding, so it shouldnt be too difficult

@@Morphologicallyy Yes but Chile has a parliament. The defense force will assess the threat level of the Group. If the situation can be handled by the police they will call on the departments to investigate if not then the last resort is the army
The Army should not be sent as the manner of operating between the police and military is different. The army uses brute force to enforce order meanwhile the police use dialogue to ensure peace. Should the army go in the brute tactics could reduce support for the government and cause an even bigger problem. A civil war

These are obv not some small time criminals but a paramilitary group killing civilians and police. Imo because of opinions like yours alot of time is wasted for useless assessment while people are dying. Brute force is obv needed here
