    I still lament the disappearance of the micro-SD slot on Surface Pro. Upgrading from my SP7 would mean losing 1.5 TB of cost-effective onboard storage.

    • @allstarkidXD
      @allstarkidXD 28 днів тому +2

      The good thing though is you can upgrade the ssd easily

    • @jefffuhr2393

      @@allstarkidXD True, BUT, to get the higher end memory configurations, you generally must also pay for larger than baseline storage as well, which would subsequently get pulled out. Also, there's nothing wrong with putting in an after-market 2 GB SSD and *still* having the option to pop in a 1.5 TB Micro-SD card as well. That's a pretty potent amount of storage for a tablet-sized device. In truth, the new RISC-based CPU and its associated battery life is probably enough for me to bite on the SP7 to SP11 upgrade. Always a glutton for punishment on premium Surface offerings, I can really appreciate the new Bluetooth detachable keyboard for those times I'm carrying a USB C second monitor for the improved ergonomics that placing the keyboard in front of the larger external monitor would bring. Happy computing to you! And thank you for your reminder!

      MicroSD cards aren't fast or reliable. I've tried them on the Surface Go and they can't match a 2230 SSD or a USB4 external SSD.

    This video was clearly uploaded much later than it was shot but it's one of the best about the subject. It's such a shame that the Surface laptop no longer supports the pen and has no 5G, that rules it out for me...

    • @findlisa
      @findlisa 28 днів тому

      Yes, this video is the best. It even corrects you on the facts the 5G versions are coming soon and why pens are best used on tablets and not on laptops.

    • @_Digitalguy
      @_Digitalguy 27 днів тому

      @@findlisa you completely misunderstood... 5G is only coming for Surface Pro, not Surface laptop. Also, using the pen for quick annotation is very usable, I do it all the time on my surface book without detaching the screen... But sure our findlisa expert said it is useless... so it must be, right? 😉

      A digitalised display costs more and is less efficient, and analytics undoubtedly say it is a niche feature. It is better to invest that cost in something more people will use. Obviously, it will disappoint some, but every change in tech upsets people. Legacy and dilly-dallying are a quick way to lose out in the tech space, as MS has found out too many times.
      Another reason is that these new Snapdragon chips are very price competitive, and Qualcomm is no doubt intentionally trying to take sales from Apple and Intel by undercutting them. Cutbacks are necessary to maintain a margin, so there will be no OLED on the Surface Laptop to reach that £1450 price target.

    • @_Digitalguy
      @_Digitalguy 25 днів тому

      @@andyH_England I agree with you Andy, but as you same some people have priorities, and those are mine, so that rules it out for me, even though it's probably the choice that makes the most sense

    Backside of the touchpad/trackpad end of the surface pro should have some kind magnet in it which will allow it to attach sturdily when you go to tablet mode....

    Appreciate the content and nice to see Aldo here (I watch his channel also - who knew that you'd known each other for a decade?!)👍🏾. Was waiting for your thoughts on the next iteration of Surface products coming out. Very exciting.
    ps. On my side the audio had some fuzzy interference sounds primarily in the first two mins....

    Hi Brett good to see a new video from you. I am a keen user and supporter of Microsoft. What has happened to the Surface Duo 3. Very happy with Surface Duo 2 and don't want to move to another company for my next phone. I know you and your brother have some contacts in Microsoft, how can we encourage Microsoft to keep working on and release SD3? Thanks.

    These pre-release videos are very tight-lipped and not open at all. I wouldn't recommend anyone preorder anything until reviews come out.

    Thank you for pointing out the utter, incomprehensible absurdity of a $769 keyboard/pen. MS should be absolutely reamed for this. No one else seems to be talking about it?!
    FYI, the older type cover can be purchased with a pen for less than half the price. Buyers of the new SP really should boycott this bullshit.

    The Snapdragon X Elite are getting handpicked benchmarks with a distinct lack of openness and limited mention of efficiency (apart from local video playback), single-core CPU (most definitely more critical than multicore on an ultrabook), and GPU scores. Their focus is on AI when there are limited features that can utilise all those TOPs, which most users probably will never use. No surprise MS leaked Recall to try and push the AI agenda, but that has opened a can of worms as it is now proven that you do not need a neural engine for this, though it is more efficient with an NPU. There are privacy issues with Recall, which the UK authorities are investigating.
    Best wait for the release in two weeks before pre-ordering one of these, as Apple, Intel and AMD all have superior chips arriving in Q4 that will make the X Elite less enticing.
