The infamous sock stench! My 2021 Model 3 SR+, I had to change the cabin filter (doesn't have a HEPA/Bio mode) twice in less than one year. Really happy for you that you have the Plaid! The Plaid and Cybertruck are a pair of my dream daily drivers.
I just purchased my 2024 model S Plaid in stealth grey about a month and a half ago. I've put 1k miles on it, and i think that it's a very good daily driver. It's been my dream daily since it got refreshed in 2021. And while I love the car, there are still some things tesla needs to get right. When i first took delivery, my right side headlight was misaligned, and it went into a corner part of another panel, and it made the car look like it had a lazy eye, lol. That was fixed a month later since service times are so long here in NJ. A couple of other issues I had that were within the infamous spec of teslas was my back passenger door when closed sticks out a bit kinda looking like someone softly closed the door, and it didn't fully shut. Another issue was that the door handles looked like they were too flush for me but again within spec. The final issue was the back arm rest when lowering makes a loud and ugly clicking noise, and again, they said it was normal. For some people, these are slight issues, and of course, I'll learn to deal with it, but still not what you'd expect from a 90k car. I still love the car, and I'll call these beauty imperfections to make myself feel better. I did get the new sport seats and those are great but the side bolstering will crease over time 100% since they are so tall when i get out the car but those seats are my favorite part of the car. Recently, I've also noticed a rattle coming from the dashboard, and i think one from the back and driver side b pillar. While I love tesla and especially the model S I wish in the recent earnings, call someone who address Elon directly about tesla infamous build quality issues and how they plan on fixing them if they even are? Unfortunately, all shareholders' attention is at optimus and robotaxi. Another issue tesla has is service. Good luck trying to get them on the phone if you need to talk to someone. Everything is about the app. I've had to drive to talk to someone about delivery questions since no one was picking up. All in all, the company needs to focus more on build quality and customer service. I've watched your previous videos, and test drove a lot of model S before finalizing my decision, and ultimately, I dont regret it. I hope tesla will take these critiques and fix build quality at least.
I'm sorry to hear about the quality issues that you are experiencing. I had assumed build quality had improved since 2021 given all the feedback that Tesla has received, but you have describe quite a few concerns on a single car. If it helps, I've gotten use to the misalignment issues that my car has to where I don't notice them any more - it doesn't take away from enjoyment of the car. Of course, if they could be addressed under warranty, I would have liked them addressed. Congrats on your new Plaid! I'm glad that you find it to be a good daily driver too!
@@TheLifeofJoeLee Of course you're right it doesn't take away from the driving experience. This car is like a dream to me and much higher quality than my previous car, I'm coming from a 2012 ford explorer. Just that as my honeymoon phase with the car fades Im noticing all the imperfections and some I think shouldn't be an issue with a car of this price. The only thing I would have liked tesla do is realign my back door and fix the loud click on the back passenger armrest. I wonder when you bring down the armrest of your plaid does it make a really loud click almost concerning in a way? I've also had 2 instances where I left the car parked outside my work for a long time in the heat and later that night when I got in the instrument cluster didnt turn on right away but the main screen was. As I was backing out it then turned on but hasn't happen since. This week first time also when I was backing into a parking spot, all the cameras on the screen glitched, went out and came back. Not sure if the heat has anything to do with this but I'm not too concerned since the car just started it's 4 year warranty. I'm going to keep this car most likely around 8 years if it doesn't give me concerning issues in the future and around that time I think we will be getting probably 2 refreshes for the model S and I'll be buying it again. I would like to see a 500 mile variant so that 80% percent daily driving doesnt kill the battery city driving as I mostly due and the highways near me all have stop lights so I do alot of stop and go even on highways. I did do a small trip down the lake and I did the math and I would've gotten alittle over 330 miles on a full charge. I am rocking the 19'' since I was scared of all the complain of the 21'' having rear camber issues and lower range.
I posted a video of me lowering and raising the rear armrest for you: ua-cam.com/video/pMy81BsSFu8/v-deo.html I don't hear any concerning sounds when lowering and raising the armrest. The backdoor alignment is something that I think the mobile service can take care of. If you can't get that service center to fix it, I recommend making an appointment with a different service center. I've experienced the instrument cluster screen having a delay before turning on when first getting in the car - it has only happened a handful of times and never two times in a row so I never looked into it. If you experience this problem or the camera glitching again, note the time when it happened (I take a picture of the clock as a reminder) as the service center will ask for the date and time when you experienced the problem so that they can look at the computers log around that time.
@TheLifeofJoeLee oh thank you for the video, and ya, mine doesn't do that. Maybe I'll try again in the future to make another appointment. Mine at the end makes a loud click. Maybe I can record it and show you. Service centers tend to be booked, so it'll be like a month for here in NJ. Thank you for the advice on the instrument cluster and camera glitching. Wish you the best of luck with your car. I hope mine will hold up just as good.
So someone who is thinking about a Plaid would you suggest getting a used one for around 55K ish vice paying for a new one that has build quality issues? If they aren’t that much different performance wise and quality wise why pay the extra 50K ish. Is the new 2024 Model s plaid 40-50K more than a 20k mile 2021 plaid??? Right now with depreciation on these I say no.
I’m at 13.5k miles now. It’s the best LA daily of all time. Fully ppfed from new so zero paint issues, but I did spend $7k for the work. Track Pack brakes cost me $16.6k and I wish every owner could enjoy this setup. It’s a top shelf oem brake kit rivaling the best from much more sporting brands. Rear calipers are massive in particular. Seriously. Further reducing unsprung weight, I’m out $10k for forged hre wheels so net reduction is approx 80lbs at the wheels. Arachnids are Chinese made boat anchors. Ride quality is transformed. Enjoyment is maximized. Agreed that Tesla service centers leave a lot to be desired. It’s the Tesla plaid ownership’s Achilles heel. Model 3s have zero road presence. Refreshed model s hips rival those of a wide body 911 shell. Just take a look at them in the rear view mirrors. 🎉thanks for the update!
Wow, thanks for sharing your perspective on your car and mods! As I was editing the video, I was thinking how if I were to spec another Model S Plaid I would not get the Arachnids - I'd have the car delivered with the Tempest wheels and go with an aftermarket set up. I was disappointed at how heavy the Arachnids were when I first picked them up. Now I'm really curious about the Track Pack brakes - I appreciate your perspective on them! You are reminding me how much I loved the monoblock forged HREs that I had on my Panamera - they were a bit soft for such a heavy car, but easy to straighten when out of round. I agree on the Model 3's road presence or lack of. When I was preparing to add footage from my test drive into this video, I was wondering why I had even considered that move, lol. Thanks again for the comment and info!
@@TheLifeofJoeLeedrive the wheels off the plaid man. Buying a six figure ev is a money burning proposition. But the model s plaid is such an amazing all rounder especially with the AP racing brakes with surface transforms rotors. It’s a game changer especially coupled with lightweight forged wheels. Just make sure they’re properly load rated. Mine have zero issues on these grand theft auto LA conditions. I’ll never go back to a gas powered daily.
If going with an EV for a daily driver, I think Tesla is the way to go for proven tech. Resale value for Tesla vehicles went downhill when they started cutting prices - that impacted the whole EV market to include Porsche EVs. I agree that the 911 is a great car to own, but it is the not the right car as a daily driver for everyone. Years ago, I daily drove a 911 for a year - it was fun, but I will not do that again while I have young kids. 911s depreciate with miles.
Thanks for this!! Mine has 54k. I’ve upgraded to 20” Martian MW05’s and Michelin and I too have that hum. But only on a couple of stretches of highway at 60-70mph. Had the FSD computer die a year after owning. Car still drove, I even took it to the track waiting for the part. Had rear hatch lock/sensor replaced twice. Replaced peeling yoke with new yoke with center horn Replaced right front headlight as I saw water condensing inside. Still worked but Tesla replaced with mobile tech. All in all. Everything under warranty except the wheels of course. I’m up in Boston area and when I’m not crazy pushing the car and using FSD around town I’m getting between 240-260 watt hours per mile. Car is still the fastest on the road. I use FSD 90% of the time!! Love it. Still far from robot taxi. But when the FSD didn’t work because thought trunk was opened. I missed it terribly. I have done a full suntek ultra matte pod and love it. I feel like when I want the gloss again. Just take it off and back to the gloss. Love the car as much as day 1! Can’t wait for my cybertruck later this fall. And maybe someday a roadster. Thanks again for the video.
Thanks for sharing your ownership experience! Great to hear from someone else with over 54k miles! I too miss FSD when it doesn't work. I forgot to mention in the video how I'm productive my long drives are because of it - this car is my mobile office. That is amazing efficiency around town! The new yoke looks to be higher quality. I'm going to look into that. Thanks for the info!
FYI @don.newlon just replied to the video saying that the Michelin all season hum is eliminated if you turn the active noise canceling off. I don't have the all season tires on my car at the moment, but I'm going to try this when I have them back on.
@@TheLifeofJoeLee yes. In place of where the clunky horn was is the cameras button. The horn button would’ve been useful has been in place of the microphone or even the wipers. I hardly use the voice requests.
Martian Wheels changed the MW05 to version 2 which in my opinion doesn't look as nice. They said the change was due to a stronger wheel but still prefer the original look.
I bought a 21 plaid in the same color as yours last month. I am also experiencing the loud drivers window. My driver side axle is making a clicking sound and my yoke has started peeling but I have an appointment Monday to address these issues. Im coming from a 19 m3p. I was a Tesla service technician for 2 years and agree that service overall could use some work. Thanks for the great videos. Keep them coming.
Congrats on the blue Plaid! Sorry to hear about the issues that you are experiencing. Hopefully, you'll get the latest yoke with the center horn. Once resolved, can you let me know what the problem was with your axle? I'm guessing it is a CV joint, but I'm curious to know.
Appreciate your video. I’m on my second Plaid and with the recent FSD update, 12.5, it has added an additionally element to the car that few realize. But then again not everyone is into tech I guess.
Thanks for sharing your experience! I've been watching videos of 12.5 and am really looking forward to it. If 12.5 isn't offered to cars with HW3, I may upgrade to a car with HW4. I've heard from owners who upgraded from the 2021 Plaid to 2023 that the 2023 just feels nicer with a snappier computer.
I bought my 21 plaid new and took delivery Nov 21 and have 16,000 miles. I have had ZERO cosmetic issues other than a few electronic issues in the first year including front radar sensor and rear hatch lock mechanism replaced. Car has been perfect , full XPEL stealth ppf, same blue color, white interior , forged Signaturewheels, mountain pass performance brake upgrades. Love my car. Enjoy yours
Great to hear about your experience with your '21 Plaid! Blue with XPEL stealth sounds awesome. Did you upgrade brake pads too? The mountain pass rotors look really good.
I did not upgrade the pads. I have never tracked nor taken to the drag strip and I literally never once used launch control , I just baby it and don’t even drive it in the rain or winter. Just spends most of its time in the garage
@TheLifeofJoeLee - Thanks for the update. I'm contemplating upgrading to a newer S. My 17 100D just completed a 9000 mile cross country trip, and my range at 80% dropped to 249 from 252 - supercharged just about the entire trip. Since the warranty on the battery and drivetrain don't expire until November of 2025, I'm debating picking up a used 2023 Long Range S next year - basically for the range and faster charging on long trips. The battery degradation has been minimal for me at 91,946 miles. About 5.7% over 7 years. Thanks again, Joe! Looking forward to future updates.
Wow, 9000 mile cross country trip! That's awesome! Overall, were you ok with the charging process and time (e.g., charging fit in well with breaks)? The 2023 Model S will have the benefit of having the latest hardware (HW4). You'll be giving up free supercharging - if you do long distance trips often, that can add up. Used is the way to go. I took a huge depreciation hit on my car.
@@TheLifeofJoeLee Sadly, no free supercharging for me, as I bought the car used from Tesla back in 2020. I did get the CCS retrofit - came in handy when I was low and found a ChargePoint CPE250 outside of Yellowstone in Gardiner, Montana. Not a lot of superchargers in that neck of the woods...
I've gone back and forth with trying to decide which refresh Model S to purchase. The '21 looks great but the '23 looks damn good too! I think the high insurance cost just answered my question though. Great videos btw! Thank you for offering such useful info!
Thanks for the comment! Hopefully, Tesla Insurance is offered in your state. Someone in OH commented that they are only paying $85/month through Tesla Insurance. Tesla doesn't offer insurance in my state yet. As much as I like the look of the 2021 with the bar that connects the tail lights, I recommend getting a 2023 with the latest hardware: HW4.
Everyone: go to firestone and get a lifetime alignment. They know how to align Tesla model S is of any year. Saves a huge amount of money, since especially if you have staggered tires like I do, you can miss the inside of a tire wearing down too early because the suspension isn’t aligned. I get my alignment done every six months or when I change the tires.
My commute is 260 miles round trip and averages 245 wh/mile at freeway speeds. My around town trips, which I admit includes lots of hard launches, is about 300 wh/mile. My lifetime average so far is 255 wh/mile since most of the miles are commute. My best ever was 235 wh/mile without head or tail winds at about 75F. This includes Pacheco Pass which is a moderately high mountain range pass. I have 5043 miles as of this morning. Purchased in January. Drive to work once a week. 2024 UR MSP with 19" wheels. You're around town average for 21" wheels is spectacular. You must be driving 80 mph on the freeway to and from work.
That is impressive efficiency! Thanks for sharing the data. It is nice to hear from someone else who is using their Plaid for longer distance trips. This car is so good for that purpose. I cruise above 80 mph. For my 172 round trip drive today, which included local driving for a business lunch, I averaged 321 wh/mi. I'm curious to see what my average energy consumption will be if I limit my speed to 75 mph.
@@TheLifeofJoeLee The speed limits on my commute are 65 MPH and I keep about 5 mph faster than that. I'm typically not the slowest or fastest car. Just about the middle of the pack.
Nice update. I have the same year and color you do. I bought it used last year. Ive had my fun with it, and I am selling it this weekend. Im really looking forward to a completely updated model, something Lucid Sapphire fast, better brakes, updated suspension. Until then, I have my eyes on a Porsche. Anyway, great video. thanks for the filter tip, mine was getting the same smell too.
Thanks for the comment. Which Porsche are you eyeing? I'm curious if you are considering a Porsche EV. I had considered the Taycan GTS but then decided (for now) that if were to spend that kind of money on a Porsche, I'd rather spend it on a 911. The Lucid Sapphire raised the bar significantly.
@@TheLifeofJoeLee Youre welcome. Im actually taking myself out of the EV game. Ive had one for almost 4 years now (M3 then Plaid), but electric cars are in their adolescence while ICE cars are in their prime. Im currently in the market for a n/a Cayman for pure driving experience (maybe a 991.1 911 if i can find one I like) and I picked up a new Silverado 1500 duramax for daily duties. I would love a new Taycan, but they are very pricey.
@@ur4ufuerufhjehjbedjh nice! I loved my former 991.1 C2S but had car ADD and traded it in for a Gulia Quadrifoglio. I like my 997.2, for its analog nature and looks, but still prefer the way the 991 sounds and the overall experience that it offers. Good luck with your car shopping!
I too had the smell in my 21 Plaid. I got them to replace the HIPA housing AND the filter under warranty. I then bought a filter sock that goes over the inlet of the HIPA housing. I also got a "dam" above the vents for the HIPA so it would protect any water to get into that vent. Did this last year and the smell hasn't returned.
Thank you for sharing your experience and fix! That's great that you got Tesla to cover it under warranty. I had argued with the Tesla service center about it but they would not acknowledge that the filter was a problem.
@@TheLifeofJoeLee If you want to give me your email, I can share some pics and of the sock im talking about to help prevent the HIPA filter from getting wet in the future and the peice I stuck on to help prevent water getting in. Let me know.
That window noise, also happens with my 3lr,and I dont have tint, so there full of crap on that. Just buy some wd40 silicone spray, but I wouldnt do it that often,it will prob dry it out over time. Sick looking Plaid !!
Thanks! I found the screeching windows to be a common Tesla problem...but the service center would not acknowledge that. In my case, they said that they didn't lubricate anything, just made adjustments. Thanks for the tip!
now that i have a tesla , i realize the software issues easily outpace the savings in mechanical maintenance .. Kind of a pain in the ass .. Right now , my cruise control and autosteer wont work , no solutions have worked yet,.Last week it was the low voltage battery,,, Im always waiting for some programming bug to pop up.. Not the ice cars are immune to that , but ive never seen soo many small issues on a 38000 mile car. ( model 3 perf
I'm sorry to hear about the problems that you are experiencing. My problem with nav, autosteer, and FSD not working took a few weeks to diagnose before they decided that a new computer was required. What year is your car? Failing of the low voltage battery causes a bunch of problems. I met someone at a service center whose car needed a new low voltage battery a day after it was delivered. However, replacement after 5 years is typical.
@@TheLifeofJoeLee 2019.,.. so it was due for the low voltage battery replacement.. My guess is , the low voltage reset ( as a result of the battery being swapped ) has caused the gremlins with the camera calibration and driver assist modes.. Prior to the battery debacle all seemed normal. I dont drive far , so its not a big deal , but id still like to have the option to use cruise control.. There was another issue when using a usb stick for the sentry mode , but i wont even get into that.. Its just a lot morre nagging issues than say a genesis sedan which I had prior. ( which actually required zero maintenance in the yrs i had it , aside from oil changes )
Just got the Model S about a month ago and while the stereo sounds good, the Burmeister upgrade on my former 991.1 sounded even better. It might have been that it was a much smaller cabin since the Burmeister on my w464 G63 is mediocre to say the least. I’m still acclimating to the yoke and EV car characteristics but watching your video about your model S keeps me from fully regretting my recent purchase…the Tesla service appt made right after purchase in Paramus has me waiting until Sept 6 for the morning time slot.. frustration magnifies even more after the stock price tanked after this past weeks earnings report…. Maybe I should have been patriotic and purchased a Hyundai… ionic N something..
I'm sorry to hear about your experience with the Model S. I have not experienced the Burmester audio system in a 911, just a Panamera. The Bose system that I had in my 991.1 was pretty bad and the Bose system in my 997 is even worse so my bar for audio quality may be low, lol. Hopefully, Tesla expands their service capabilities up in your area. In Cherry Hill, NJ they just built 2 new facilities - one is a collision facility that will hopefully take some of the load off of the primary service center. My car is such a good daily driver that the pros outweigh the cons for me. With that said, I'm really curious to try an Ionic N. The range is too low for my use case, but it sounds like a fun EV.
Nice review, thank you! I’ve had three Model 3’s (performance, LR, and SR) and ordered my Plaid when the sport seats came out. Very happy with the car as an all rounder. It’s about to get its abilities widened as I have an appt to have the track pack installed early Sept. glad to hear these cars hold up well. Your $3k in “all in” maintenance is about the same as a McLaren’s 2nd or 3rd year annual. lol
Thanks! The new sport seats look really nice! Awesome to hear that you are getting the track pack! Most of the $3k in maintenance was for a new set of 21" tires. It is not perfect, but I agree that is a good all rounder. Although repairs are required, not having to deal with routine maintenance has been really nice.
Best aftermarket warranty for Tesla is Xcelerate. I think I extended my MSP WHEN it is still in factory warranty for like 1900 for 10/100k. Covers everything except battery
Great video I'm not to far behind you milage wise I just hit 40k August 1st and I noticed my driver window makes that same noise sometimes but I'll probably keep my plaid until they come out with a plaid + model or something that can beat the sapphire
My only real gripe with the Plaids is the depreciation, especially if you paid the premium for what they were going for in 2021-2022! G80 M3 rides very harsh in comparison. I used to own a 2021 M4 comp and I found the ride quality to be unforgiving on any imperfect roads. Terrible as a daily commuter/family car.
Depreciation of EVs in general has been terrible. The G80/82 values seem to be holding strong. I appreciate you sharing your perspective of the G80/G82 ride quality. For my daily driver, good ride quality is a factor. I've decided to hold onto my plaid.
@lsantang I run all season tires on 20" T sportline TS5 wheels in the fall and winter. Yes, I get slipping / tire skipping up front with the summer tires when it is below 50 degrees. It doesn't need to be full lock. I don't recommend running with summer tires in climates that are consistently under 40 degrees F as traction will be compromised to where it can get annoying or be a safety concern.
Such a good looking car 😍 Wish Tesla would improve build quality and sound insulation. Also wish Tesla would add stuff like steer-by-wire (like Cyber Truck), automatik open/close door (like Model X), powered frunk (like Lucid), 360 cameras, and other similar “luxury” features.
Thanks! I found the lack of a 360 view to be really odd considering the camera hw is there. Fortunately, they recently added park assist that shows a cartoon of the soundings, which is an improvement, but it doesn't give a clear picture. I think the sound insulation in the Model S is good. The car should have soft close doors, especially with the retracting door handles that will close on my hand if I try to open and re-shut a door that was not closed all the way.
@@TheLifeofJoeLee I think just a front bumper camera would solve the 360. Also a powered frunk would prevent all those nasty scratches on the hood that comes from closing it manually. I think the sound insulation is around average. I saw some tests and it is similar to a Skoda Enyaq. For a premium flagship I would expect it to be more like a Mercedes.

Awesome video. How do you like the steering yoke vs a “normal” wheel? I like the way it looks, but my model Y doesn’t have a gauge to “look over” the steering wheel to see
Thanks, Sam! The yoke took some getting use to. I like how it doesn't block the driver screen, it makes getting in and out of the car easier, and it gives the car a unique feel. If I were to spec a new Model S, I would pay $1k to get the yoke. I've never driven a Model 3 or a Model Y with the yoke. I'm curious how it would feel with the quicker steering ratio.
Hey Joe, it's Sam. Great video! If you don't like the Tesla dealership experience, wait 'til you have to do work on the Lotus haha. Did you get this car after all the price reductions? I remember getting tempted myself but I knew once the market got flooded lots of the benefits of ownership would go down like supercharger exclusivity and repair/service wait times.
Hi Sam! Thanks! My Evora is due for an annual service soon - I can't even get a quote from the nearby service center. An Evora 400 that I almost bought last year required over a month to replace a cracked windshield. We'll see... Unfortunately, I bought my car before the price reductions. It was good that you waited - you get a better price and newer tech. With that said, the car has been great for my use. Autopilot and FSD has made my commute much more productive.
What are you doing in my garage? I have the Plaid and Evora. My Evora is a 2011 NA but dang a rare car combo I thought no one else would have. If you tell me, you recently sold your Honda S2000 and Miata ND I will have to believe I'm being stalked ;-) I have been looking at the lip for about a year. looks great
@@TheLifeofJoeLee my S2000 was a AP1 but the Miata was a ND1 Club. 2003 G35 coupe 6MT,. 2010 370Z MT??? My 370Z was hit with only 500 miles on the clock but it was my gateway to the Evora
I love the look of the 370z and the sound of the VQ but never purchased one. What do you think of the new Z? I think the NISMO looks really nice, it is too bad that it isn't offered with a manual.
@@TheLifeofJoeLee I have only seen a couple in person. For the price I'm going with something else. reviews are good but Nissan quality is really starting to lag
I haven't owned many cars past 50k miles but the cabin is still solid in that, aside from the A-pillar noise that I mentioned, there aren't any other noticeable rattles. Going forward, I plan to provide updates on my car in 10k mile intervals.
How funny that Plaid owners regard a 2.5 second 0-60 mph as 'slow!' I can't think of any other cars that aren't either supercars or heavily modified that can get near that. However, I AM shocked at the somewhat lousy range of 270 vs. 320-400 of the other model S's (plural). Wondering if just settling for a 0-60 in the 3 or 4s is a good trade off for getting A LOT better range.
The car has 2 more economical modes that limit power and acceleration. I've only tried them for short periods to see what they feel like, but have never tried an entire trip in those modes. Out of curiosity, I'm going to try both modes to see how they impact my range. For reference, when I had my 2018 Model 3 Performance which was rated for 310 miles, I was seeing a range of 200 to 220 for the same 160 mile commute and that was cruising at 5 to 10 mph slower than I am in the plaid. Driving above 65 mph has negative impact on range.
@@TheLifeofJoeLee Oh, okay I see, yes I believe it has a bigger battery than any of the model 3.. So, it probably should help with range, but the heavier your foot, the less it helps. Who knows though, it might be a good subject for a future video, especially if it nets you say, 300 miles or more of total range? Driving speed vs. power mode.
That would be a good topic - I'll plan a video on that. I did some laid-back local driving today with an average consumption of 245 wh/mi - that would be a range of 408 miles.
@@TheLifeofJoeLee yes this issue has abated somewhat since I now have 10,000 miles on the all seasons, but at the beginning of the tire life, when the tread was at maximum , it was so bad I thought something was wrong with the car until I discovered turning off the noise canceling solved the issue. There is some incompatibility between Tesla’s noise canceling and these tires.
Yea I have the same issue with my Michelin. I'll have to try turning off the noise canceling frature. Also noticed if I run them at 44-45 psi the noise doesn't happen as often.
@@ppeou5190 I've now experienced the same sound with the OEM spec Michelins. I turned off the noise cancelling feature while I was hearing the sound and it immediately went away. I've been driving with noise canceling off. I don't notice the cabin being any louder.
Thanks! I like the yoke and would get it again if I were to order a new Model S. It allows for a clear view of the instrument cluster screen, easier entry / exit, and makes the experience unique in that it feels somewhat like a computer game. It took a day or two to get used to. I think the steering wheel that is offered for the Model S and X looks huge.
How did you calculate / determine the amount of degradation? I haven't done an official battery test on my car. However, if I use what the computer tells me the range is at full charge, I'm consistently seeing 320 miles, but that could be because Tesla lowered the range estimate to 320. When I bought the car, it was rated for 342 miles - the car's computer never showed me 342 miles of range. The highest it showed was 332 miles. I don't know how accurate these numbers are but if I were to calculate battery degradation off of these numbers (320/332), the battery is at 96.4%. If it is based off of the original rated range it would be (320/342): 93.6%.
I agree and hope that is the case going forward. Fortunately, my ECU replacement was covered by the warranty, but I read on the Tesla forum that someone who was out of warranty had to pay for their ECU that was broken by a software update out of pocket
The insurance premium for the Model S Plaid is $2,358 for 12 months. Insurance cost for the Model S Plaid is high - I had sticker shock when I moved from a 2018 Model 3 Performance to it. It is about $800 more / year.
Tesla insurance is available in several states!! They base my monthly premium on my safety score, which is displayed in the app! I only pay about $85 per month on a MS LR!! In Ohio
@dmv_p yes, indeed. I like where I live and the community that i work with...they just aren't close to each other. I only go into the office a couple times a week.
Nice! I will be getting the blue color as well when I decide to buy one. If I remember correctly you got a wheel alignment instead of getting aftermarket lower arms to resolve the tire wear issue correct?
That is correct. Although some consider the negative camber to be aggressive, correcting the rear toe to zero helped my tire wear. I think correcting the camber with what the aftermarket offers could help even more with tire wear, but I think it would reduce corning grip.
Yikes! Have you taped the hooks for back seat latch (the latch for the fold down function)? I put a layer of electrical tape on it - that got rid of the squeak that I was hearing in the back seat area. One way to see if the latch is a problem is to drive with the back seats down and see if the noise is still present.
My car was so quiet driving off the lot. Then the following week I had front speaker rattle, driver side head liner rattles, back seat rattle, front passenger dash rattle, bilateral front door frame/window squeaks and rear hatch rattle. After many hours of messing around with foam. I got almost all the rattles unter control, except the front speaker. I'll have to remove the A pillar lining and wedge some foam in there down the road. Still love my 23 MSLR. Best car I've had overall, coming from a brand new 2019 sports package cayenne that I had prior, which did handle better than the tesla.
You're welcome, lol. I'm sharing my experience to help people with their decision making. I've spent more money on maintenance and repairs on my 911 in the same 2 years and I had only driven that car 4k miles during that time.
It doesn't matter if it's gas or electric car, if you do not own one stop talking crap. So irritating and it's normally people who are jealous because they can't afford a nice car.
Greetings neighbor! The 21" wheel option comes with 10mm wider tires for more grip...but I don't think many people option them for that reason...it is for the looks. I like the way the 21" wheels look but I think a 20" diameter wheel is the sweet spot for the Model S. If I were to spec a new Plaid, I would go for the 19" wheels to save some money on the purchase price and run a set of lightweight aftermarket 20" wheels.
I posted a video of me lowering and raising the rear armrest for you: ua-cam.com/video/pMy81BsSFu8/v-deo.html
I don't hear any concerning sounds when lowering and raising the armrest.
It’s because of your videos, that I bought a Model S plaid. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing!
Comprehensive review 👍
Jesus why put money into tesla when resale value is zero? 😢
Invest in Porsche 911 not tesla 😢
Replaced peeling yoke with new yoke with center horn
Replaced right front headlight as I saw water condensing inside.
Still great seeing folks putting miles on their Plaids. Glad to hear the car is working well for you, appreciate the level-headed follow up video.
Thanks!
@@TheLifeofJoeLee Same here! Clicking sound inside the A pillar in my 2024 S is getting worse every day
Appreciate your video.
Great update.. thanks for putting in the time to make it.
Thanks for watching and for the feedback!
Hi Joe, thank for doing this informative video.
Thanks for asking about an update!
You should be a T1000 actor 👍.
Love this super open and transparent review!! Very good to know what relatively small issues you had. Otherwise this seems like the best car ever
Thanks for the comment!
54k here 👋
Great to hear!
Great tip! My alignment from the factory was off with too much toe out in the rear.
any particular reason you decided to get lifetime alignment vs installing the camber arms which everyone has referenced on the TMC forum?

Thanks for your response. I used the Tesla feature that available in service mode.
I'll start a battery health check on Tuesday evening and will let you know what i find.
Very thorough. Thank you!
@@TheLifeofJoeLee Thank you! I like your car collection, and I too have car ADD lol

Thanks! I found the screeching windows to be a common Tesla problem...but the service center would not acknowledge that. In my case, they said that they didn't lubricate anything, just made adjustments. Thanks for the tip!

I hope that all gets worked out for you soon. I think Autopilot is one of the major benefits of Tesla over the other EV brands.
Good vid, thank you sir
Thanks for the info!
Well done review
Great video I'm not to far behind you milage wise I just hit 40k August 1st and I noticed my driver window makes that same noise sometimes but I'll probably keep my plaid until they come out with a plaid + model or something that can beat the sapphire
How’s the tire wear?
Do you get the clunking sound when at full wheel lock like the wheel rubs?
I do not get a clunking sound at full lock. I haven't experienced any rubbing of the tires or wheels on the car.
@@TheLifeofJoeLee it's a known issue in cold climates with 21 inch wheels and summer tires.
Such a good looking car 😍
Wish Tesla would improve build quality and sound insulation.

The seat wrinkles on the side is because its closest to the door. Getting in and out wears it.
If you tell me, you recently sold your Honda S2000 and Miata ND I will have to believe I'm being stalked ;-)
I have been looking at the lip for about a year. looks great
Nice! I owned an AP2 S2000 and an ND1 Miata - we were both on the same path to an Evora! It is neat that we have these cars in common!
Interested how the fit and finish ages as the car gets older. I've been curious how good/bad of a buy a used tesla is.
The Michelin all season hum is eliminated if you turn the active noise canceling off.
Thanks! I had not considered that. I'll try that when I put the all season set up back on.
Nice vid, what's your take on the yoke?
@@TheLifeofJoeLee Nice. I just placed a 3/4 flat bottom steering wheel on a Model X. The clearer view of the cluster screen is very nice.
hey good video, could you try adding background music?
Good suggestion - that would be a nice touch! I'll consider that for my next video.
How much battery degradation have you experienced? I have a 2022 with 28k miles and my battery is at 92%. Not sure if that is norm.
I wish tesla would allow free replacement of any electronics that were hit by a bad software update.
I agree and hope that is the case going forward. Fortunately, my ECU replacement was covered by the warranty, but I read on the Tesla forum that someone who was out of warranty had to pay for their ECU that was broken by a software update out of pocket
do you mind sharing your annual insurance cost?
The insurance premium for the Model S Plaid is $2,358 for 12 months. Insurance cost for the Model S Plaid is high - I had sticker shock when I moved from a 2018 Model 3 Performance to it. It is about $800 more / year.
Tesla insurance is available in several states!! They base my monthly premium on my safety score, which is displayed in the app! I only pay about $85 per month on a MS LR!! In Ohio
$85/month for a Model S is great! Unfortunately, Tesla insurance is not offered in my state yet....hopefully soon. Thanks for sharing!
Did you say you have a 160 mile commute? nah fam you got it
@dmv_p yes, indeed.
My interior squeaks like a cheap Yugo. Especially the backseat.
Yikes! Have you taped the hooks for back seat latch (the latch for the fold down function)? I put a layer of electrical tape on it - that got rid of the squeak that I was hearing in the back seat area. One way to see if the latch is a problem is to drive with the back seats down and see if the noise is still present.
@TheLifeofJoeLee When the seats are down I do not hear a squeak. I will try the electrical tape. Thanks for the tip!
Best car I've had overall, coming from a brand new 2019 sports package cayenne that I had prior, which did handle better than the tesla.
my ultra red plaid just under 20k km but doing ~ 4000 kn per month..😂
Nice! As someone who also drives a lot I love not having to think about service intervals (aside from tire rotation).
Thank you for telling us how much of a POS this car and all Tesla's are.
You're welcome, lol. I'm sharing my experience to help people with their decision making. I've spent more money on maintenance and repairs on my 911 in the same 2 years and I had only driven that car 4k miles during that time.
Says someone that doesn’t own one
@@larrykay6093 Another pitiful individual that has the nerve to talk about a car he doesn’t have.
@@ChosenMJ I know they are pieces of crap and they are also the new MAGA hat.
It doesn't matter if it's gas or electric car, if you do not own one stop talking crap. So irritating and it's normally people who are jealous because they can't afford a nice car.
A garden state model s plaid ah !! Hey neighbor ! Can someone here explain why would they go for bigger wheels ?🛞 when 19s are much efficient
Totally agree with the 19s but it just love the look of larger wheels 😂
