I've been listening to this song for 40 years and it never fails to hit me like it hit you. The original vocalist, Eric Woolfson, hits even harder if you can believe it. Don't be put off to Alan Parson Project, thinking they just do sad music! They have so many other great songs, in many different styles and moods.
I agree.
But Time and Old and Wise are eternal songs, in lyrical and musical way. When you hear those both songs they never get out of your head, you get back to them precisley for their wise.
The original really needs to be done here.
Such a beautiful song and lovely reaction. I've always loved this song since I was very young for some reason, so other-worldly, ethereal melancholy, yet so sweet. And "Time" is flowing like a river. You both would likely enjoy Tori Amos performing a song called "Time" (a different song) she sang on David Letterman show short after Sept. 11 attacks, very moving

Such a sad song and sad reaction. I am sitting here in Norway and I am sad with you, because I lost my dear wife almost a year ago (May 15 is one year ago). My soulmate and best friend for 42 years. She was 16 and I was 19 when we got together, and we were married for 37 years. I comfort myself with music and music reactions and life must go on, but it is not easy. I am now 62 years old and alone, but we have two sons together whom I am very fond of. I am so happy to see many of your reactions, you are very nice together :-). Alan Parsons was a lowly tape operator back in '69, when the Beatles were working on the Let It Be sessions....later was heavily involved in the Dark Side of the Moon album for Pink Floyd.

I like that you two are open with your feelings and emotions, and if a song makes you cry because it is so beautiful then you cry. That is rare among reaction channels, and the world as a whole. Your days are well spent, but feel sorry for those who spend their lives with hatred and violence consuming their days for their time is truly wasted. I once heard a radio progrm in which Alan Parsons said this song could be sung by a sailor or an astronaut ("The tide/stars wait for me") who might not return from his journey. The album it's taken from, "The Turn of a Friendly Card," is a concept album not just about gambling, but also taking risks, which is itself a form of gambling. A beautiful album (and song) and one of the Project's best. I love listening to your reactions to this band, one of my favorites.

The Alan Parsons Project was nearly perfect as far as studio-based bands go. They're one of my favorites. Along these lines, "To One in Paradise" from Tales of Mystery and Imagination (Edgar Allan Poe) is as beautiful, as is "Day after Day (The Show Must Go On)" from I Robot. For a harder edge, "I Wouldn't Want To Be Like You" or "Games People Play," the song right before this one on The Turn of a Friendly Card! TAPP won't disappoint!

Great reaction. I worked at a music store in the early 80's. I was 20 at the time. Two members of the band came in to buy guitar strings. We struck up a conversation about instruments and equipment. They hung out for about a half hour. The gave me 4 tickets to their show that evening at a club in New Jersey. The headliner was Todd Rundgren. It was a great show and a wonderful night. Thanks for the memory.

I'm glad to report that, although it doesn't seem so from the two songs you have sampled, The Alan Parsons Project doesn't only dwell on mortality and loss. My favorite of theirs, Silence and I, while a bit melancholy, is a great example of how the band integrates so well with orchestral instruments and the song has a lot more variety of dynamics and mood.
Thanks for a great and honest reaction. Time is definitely a song that at least puts a lump in my throat when I hear it. I think it's good to get reminded on occasion that we need to consider our purpose and our relationships when we decide how to spend what time we have.

This is the firts Alan Parsons song what I listened and the first cd what I bought: 1992.
Alan Parsons Symphonic Project is the best version of this song. You should listen to it even if it's on your own. Even more beautiful than this one. His voice is ethereal, other worldly. It makes me think of death as a beautiful transition that we all must face. Love your emotional, heartfelt reaction.🙂💜

The subject of the song is so universal. How very well written are the lyrics to this song...Those who have lost beloved ones, will be touched the hard way. I can 't imagine what Alan Parsons himself endures during the performance of this song, while his bandmember/friend Eric Woolfson who originally sang this song, has passed away in 2009.

Their "I Wouldn't Want to be Like You" is VERY worth a listen whether a reaction, or not. TOTALLY different sound than this one or Old & Wise. From their "I, robot" album, it is supposed to be a robot's thoughts about a growing dislike of its creators (and possibly humankind).
My second favorite song by this group. Gives you a reality check that smacks you in the face and gives you a wake up call
The vocals in the Studio Version are more fitting for the light touch th song requires.
I prefer it to this live version.

The title reminds me of a very different song from the psychedelic rock-and-soul group The Chambers Brothers titled "Time Has Come Today" which was a radio hit in 1967-1968 and is now regarded as a landmark song in its genre and era. Several versions, but try to go with a 4:45 minute recorded version. On the college campuses of the day it somewhat integrated with the anti-Vietnam War sentiment.

Alan Parsons Project is a band with a great variety of songs. The 2 that reacted are from the 80s. Alan had a great partner named Eric Woolfson who composed the lyrics and sang. But over time he used multiple singers. This was one of them that is not the same as his previous reaction. Alan is a sound engineer, producer, composer, singer, and plays instruments (piano, guitar, etc.). He is who is always there.

The lead singer is Paul Josef Olsson, his 21 year old son Remi passed away in Dec 2017.
The original singer of this song was Alan Parsons' partner, Eric Woolfson in the Alan Parsons Project. Such a beautiful song, even here, sung by P.J. Olsson and it was no longer the Alan Parsons Project. There are so many great songs by APP and Alan Parsons. Alan Parsons is the tall man in the back playing an acoustic guitar.
