Man, thanks for the video. Last time I was in an emergency situation post Harricane I took forever to untangle mine. I will remember you video forever now and for sure pass it down to more people.
In't that also called the Butterfly Hank? I keep my thumb in the loops then wrap up and tuck a bite though the loops and capture the whole bundle with the bite. very similar.
When I get a new hank, I find the end on the inside of it and pull that one. Most times I get little or no tangles. Dollar tree has 25 feet lengths on a small holder. When I use that up I now have a holder for the better stuff and it can accommodate 50 feet comfortably.
I usually carry at least one 100' section of paracord with me. I sore it on either plastic spoolers made for the purpose or on ones I male out of 1"× 1/4" pieces of wood and two dowel rods. You can make these as big or small as you need. This keeps the longer length manageable and keeps it from tangling. For shorter lengths I tie a bowline inone end that I put ober my thumb, then wrap it like the Army does their parchute lines, in a figure 8 over your finger and thumb, then wrap it with about 6 ft of cord and secure it by wrapping the tag end 4 or 5 times around a loosened loop and pulling tight. When I need some cordage I simply pull on the bowline and it comes out tangle free without unwrapping it. I also sometimes use smaller plastic spoolers that hols up to 50'. These allow for rhe cord to be stored in a flat coil and more easily stowed and take up less space plus they have holes in the handles that you can run a carabiner through or tie off with a piece of cord to the outside of your pack.
I have a tube that will take 2x18650 batteries and I wrap about 10m paracord around that in an orderly fashion which works well for me when stored in a small 'stuff sack'. I can get a battery out of the tube easily enough and just have to pull the loop I've made in the end of the paracord and it unrolls nicely. I also keep a spool 125' of #100 cordage, Atwood mini-trd that is AWESOME for being out in the woods. This stuff can be used for all manner of things that you wouldnt want to use paracord for but is too much for trip wire or something like that.
Shorter lengths are definitely key! I used to do this with 100ft hanks but it was too clunky and yes they often times would still get tangled. Not as tangled as leaving them in the original packaging though.
Great idea to cut into 25 foot hanks. I usually put a end of the line knot bowing or figure 8 and put that at the thumb when starting. Reason, easy diploy . Hold the wraps, pull the end of the line knot and it all comes out with no snarl
Thanks. Well presented and explained
Thank you, we appreciate that.

If you had shown the clove hitch at the end, it would have been really helpful.
Looks more like a constrictor knot. Cross last two wraps to form an an x and pull the end up under and through the x
Great video! Very informative. Thank you.

Never heard it called the Butterrfly Hank before but I like it! Although Butterfly Hank sounds like a name for a weird country singer... haha!

Hank for the win!!!
I found myself doing this earlier and fighting the twists. Shorter lengths are the key.

Doing the figure 8 method, don't you just pull on the end you pinched with your thumb ? You don't untie it, just pull out what you need ?
Good best practice. Also consider preparing some shorter lengths. Several 1 foot, 2 foot, 3 foot, etc.
curious why you would prepare such short sections of rope?
