  • Charmayne James Barrel Racing Clinic 2022 ⁣

This is what dreams are made of ~ working with a world champion. A champion that is full of so much knowledge & experience who calls you out on your mistakes and pushes you but who is humble and down to earth, caring, helpful, encouraging, and inspiring. ✨ ⁣

First of all Nina needed help physically to start. Charmayne has amazing people on her team - an advanced equine dentist (Mark Allen) and top notch chiropractor (Dustin Cooksey). I knew I was a little overdue on Nina’s teeth but was told I should stay on a 6 month schedule with her. She’s missing a tooth which causes her bite & jaw to slant to the left and she had tmj pain too. Teeth got all fixed up Friday! And then she got worked on by Dustin which was amazing to see his work! She has a lot of scar tissue on the left side of her neck (from who knows what because you know, horses 🤷🏻‍♀️😅), overall body soreness, but especially back soreness from the mid back down. He got her all fixed up and showed me some stretching to do with her ~ she’s feeling great now! ⁣

I’m also super thankful to Velvet, Charmayne’s assistant, as well. She was incredibly helpful to us during our time at the clinic. The main thing we learned in our riding is going back to the fundamentals and getting them correct. Being intentional in my riding, running at races, and just in life is another key point I learned from this weekend. ⁣

Nina and I got the most improved award for the clinic! 🤗 On the way home my dad asked if any part of me was at all embarrassed by that and I replied not at all! I think it’s a big testament to being a great student - recognizing my weaknesses and old habits, soaking up the knowledge and tools presented to me, focusing and working on it, and visualizing what I want. Of course none of this happens overnight so I’ve got some work to do on myself at home now and with my horses but we’ll get it! ⁣

And I think above all else reminded from Charmayne ~ Wake up and be grateful for your horse and grateful you get to live this life. 💛
