Nice. I just got done making my first M Baffle. Should have watch this first. I ground my own face grooving tool out of HSS. Worked very well.

Never throw away broken tap, end mills, or drills, they can be ground into cutting tools. - Use a chop stick or similar item to catch your parted pieces. - Wouldn't a high speed steel cutter give you a better finish on aluminum? - Overall nice job.

    Brian,
This is an interesting machining job. I like the use of a step drill to provide some room for the boring. Although expensive, you might want to use a Rotabroach cutter for your trepanning tool work if you have a lot of these to make or for working in steel. Thanks for the video, Paul

Man, that looks awesome! It makes me really want to try that on my next Form 1 suppressor. I've had good luck cutting out the bottoms of 60* cones by finishing with a 6 flute 60* countersink (5/8, 3/4, or 1 inch depending) in a low speed to get that narrow part hard to cut with even the smallest of boring bars. Great video!

nice video. You should consider grinding a nice radius on your parting tool it will cut better and the sound waves will reflect back upon themselves canceling them out during firing. It seems to work on my baffles.

In your opinion which design makes the quietest shot with all the various designs?? Would be used for pest animal hunting around the farm and shooting range fun. Calibers are .22 long rifle and 223 both are standard velocity.

What kind of lathe do you have? can you do this kind of work on a mini lathe. I don't have a lot of room. I have a mini mill for my 80 percent lowers. mini lathe for my own form 1's would be a nice addition to my man cave.

125 RMS is a finish standard for most materials but 32 RMS is easy enough to do and looks nice. FYI a mirror finish starts at 8 RMS. RMS = Roughness in Micro Seconds.

I'm sorry, but I have to critique you. You almost never explain what you're doing. For example, when making the cone at about 4 minute mark, what are you using? Are you using the compound set at 60 degrees, and going back & forth with the carriage, or going back & forth with the compound? All we ever see is the tool. You're not instructing; you're just showing the lathe cutting. Sorry, but this is true with many things you demonstrate. It may be obvious to an expert machinist, but some (like me) got our certifications years ago, or didn't even go that far, and are trying to learn as we go. These are otherwise excellent videos, and I certainly appreciate your efforts for us, but why not make them even better. I'm a fan, and want to remain one, but you're leaving me behind.

Couple a things bud. 1st, your 'hang out' is a little long, bring your tooling back a bit to lessen vibration & achieve a cleaner cut particularly with the HSS bit you are using (& snapped). 2nd, it's dull, that's another reason for the snapping of said bit & the excessive noise while in the cut. 3rd, I've always achieved a better finish & considerably better cutting/ parting etc when I use kerosene instead of any oils or other lubricants (aka WD40). I'm also a 'hobbyist' & these points are just my experiences, I have no clue if I'm correct or not. Good luck brother! 👍
