No thanks to inflation, throwing away over ripe plantain suddenly feels very difficult for me so here I go searching for recipe ideas and voila I knew my aunty Flo will not disappoint! Definitely making this for the kids this afternoon, they’ll love it I’m sure xxx Thank you aunty Flo xxx
You are awesome benie smalldoor :) They will be quite similar but the sweetness of overripe plantains are a bit tamer. Let me know which one you prefer. :)
Hello flo, i made these about 2 years ago and it went down a storm. Thanks for sharing. I want to make these again in a few days for eid but i have overripe plantain already. How do i keep them till saturday from going bad
adejoke otulana peel and cut them up and put in the freezer. On the day you will use them, bring out long before you will use them and leave to defrost on your kitchen table before use. Sorry for the late reply, have not had access to UA-cam.
We call this kaimati in Kenya...very nice video but please try to put the pot handle facing sideways(I can imagine you bend and wake up to hit it )Tufywakwa lol
lol @ tufiakwa! Thanks for looking out for me dear Tis mkenya :) I don't know why I keep doing that. Now, your comment will help me remember to put the handle on the safe side. And yea we all have the same foods, don't we?
Wow I never knew you could use plantains. I'm Cameroonian and the way we make it we use overly ripped bananas, we use the same method we normally would use if we were to make puff puff.. But we don't actually put pepper inside it. We grind the pepper on the side fry it and eat it like that
Yes, they are so similar! In Nigeria, we never cook or fry bananas so I think for all the West African recipes that call for bananas, you can replace the banana with overripe plantains to get the Nigerian version. lol
+Nasrani MinAlGharb NO Coconut oil has a low smoke point so please stop using it to fry your food because it is not good. When they say oil is healthy, it is not healthy for everything. Please do your own research and stop following every "health" advice you see on TV or on social media. Best oils for frying food are sunflower oil (which I used in the video), canola oil and other high smoke point refined vegetable oils.
Watching your video is most informative, you are a great chef and teacher. Other cooking shows could learn a lot from your technique. Cannot wait to try your recipe, many thanks.

Thanks Flo, you're the best!! Will try plantain instead of banana this time!!

This is wonderful
Great recipe. Thank you.
Hi, you said the flour is optional, without the flour, do you still leave the mashed plantain to rest 10-15 minutes? Thank you
dee oto did I really say that? I don't think so because the flour is as important as the overripe plantain in this recipe.
Nice recipe
thanks for sharing! Looks good!
You're welcome ***** :)
From this tutorial, I made mine today but with ginger
Will try soon
I have to try this
Thank you for responding
Love this
My sister and I just tried this, although I might have messed up on the ratio of water to the yeast and flour. But it's not bad.
+Berry Dakara Well done for doing a great job the first time. :) :)
do u throw away the left over oil?
Loving ur vids
Thanks nwanne m AmaraFyne Du :)
Can we bake this instead of deep frying?
Lynn Azanbou No. When you bake anything that contains yeast, it becomes bread-like and will be very different from the original snack.
nice, I hv eaten this before
Nice
YUM YUM YUM!!
You don make am ade52286 ??? :)
Am here because of the lockdown
Also can i increase the ratio of the flour to the plantain?
adejoke otulana yes but by a little bit. Else it will lose the delicious plantain taste and the finished product will be heavy rather than light.
Can I still make this without the yeast?
Yum
You are welcome +GraceTruthTeacher! :) I can't reply directly to your comments. :( Something to do with you G+ settings.
Thank you so much for this
Can I used baking powder.
Hello can I use banana as well?
+Cynthia Samura yes you can but keep in mind that it will be too sweet.
Can I add sardine or marshed egg ?
Hello ma I tried this recipe it wasn’t really sweet I don’t if it’s the plaintain that made it like that
Awwwwwwwww 🥰
Haha flo, your reply came in late ☺
adejoke otulana ahh sorry o! I just came back from work and no access to UA-cam when I am in that remote location. :)
No problem. I made it and it was fine and i didnt need to freeze the plantain as they were not too far gone in ripeness ☺
wh y is it that mine cant float up
+Nze Nze you probably do not have enough yeast in there or the oil is not hot enough.
hello, can I use banana?
You can but it will be too sweet.
Is this akara?
No *****, Akara is made with beans. See this video: How to Make Nigerian Akara (Bean Cakes)
i just made that with wheat flour instead
Well done chris129681 I hope it tasted great! :)
Yeast can neva go together with salt.
You obviously don't know much about cooking. Bread, pizza dough, doughnut, etc all have at least a little bit of salt in them. As well as yeast.
I guess he's from the east side they don't know how to cook lol😁😄
You should use coconut oil instead tho. Vegetable oil is very very unhealthy for deep frying.

+All Nigerian Recipes yup definitely

+All Nigerian Recipes but please acknowledge vegetable oil is not healthy. Try grape seed. .
All of those other oils change the flavor of what is being cooked. If you want to eat healthy please eat something else.
