Lot of people failed to know that 2017 Hyundai Elantra is the huge change, and it is better than 2016 Honda Civic. Period.
People hate on this car so much when in reality, the design and function of this car will age much better than the new Civic. People keep throwing around the fact that the Civic was named Car of the Year, but the Elantra has won that same award more than once as well.... It's all about preference and what people want from their cars... And people claiming that the Elantra is gutless are crazy. Nobody's trying to race their Elantra. Also, I own a 2011 Elantra (130K miles) and the engine has been more than reliable and I have NO ISSUES at all when trying to keep up with people on the interstate. It's an all around smooth car. But anyways, people are still choosing to hate on Hyundai/Kia based off of their reputation of the distant past and it's crazy. Of course the new Civic is an awesome car, but considering how competitive this class has gotten, no one car "blows the other out of the water."

test drove the new one but the dealer wanted over 20k for the SE model that didn't have GPS or Leather also all seat adjustment were manual. I did like the car but would rather wait 2 years and get it for 12k
The new elantra (and Sonata) dash layout is one of the nicest.
Elantra beats the civic in price. It's a great car for the price, but if you want something better more tech and more stlye then civic is the way
Elantra does not imitate Audi’s. The dude who designed Audi’s is now the head designer of Hyundai/Kia. So Audi is imitating Hyundai/Kia now lol.

Hyndai started in America in 1986 with the Excel! One of the worse cars ever! Now one of the Best cars made!
Just got the base limited model of this car and it is awesome. Got leather seats, android auto/apple car play (pretty much navigation), pretty awesome safety features, and an overall premium feel for an amazing price.
The Civic is a larger car sure, but its design this year is not my style at all. Too aggressive and awkward looking tail lights. Both interiors look great, but the civic wins for space no doubt. Whichever you choose, I think we can all agree that both of these cars are way ahead of the current Corolla and Focus.

I just bought this car 2017 Elantra Limited and slow it isnt and this is a very comfortable car and it handles superb in cornering and handling. There was no body roll and have no idea what your talking about performance wise. This car definitely out classes previous elantra models from 2011 on. sorry but your 0-60 time is not accurate on my car. I dont know what you were driving as a test car but my car is a loaded leather seated rocket and performs out standing! Especially when I use it in sport mode.

I absolutely love my 2017 Hyundai Elantra. Its my second one. I had a 2013 and planned on keeping that one in the show room got my attention
I bought a 2017 Limited model brand new with the ultimate and tech packages in April 2018 for $20k. When I drove it off the lot it didn't even depreciate in value. It's depreciation curve has matched the price I can sell it for exactly, and 2 years later it has become a car I didn't want to buy, to one I love and will keep a very long time.
Anyone who likes stories would get a kick out of when I bought the Elantra, because I went to the dealership to buy a car I decided I didn't want because of the cupholders in the rear seat! I wasn't petty, I just didn't like where they were located in the door relative to the cooling vents for the Ionic's hybrid battery. So the dealers started thinking of other cars to sell me instead, and so they showed me a fully loaded Elantra on their showroom floor. They asked if I like red, I said no. They said it has leather! I said I don't like leather. And it's fully loaded. I complained it has too many buttons. But I did like that the -rear- seats were heated, especially for Lyft/Uber passengers in a northern state. So I told them "If you can sell me that car at $400/mo with gap insurance, I'll buy it". They were surprised and baffled if that were even possible and scrambled around for the next hour trying to see if it was doable. After about a 4 hour trip to the dealership, I was contracted to buy the Elantra. A discounted unwanted runt on the showroom floor with 14 miles on it. I followed the break-in procedure to the T and by the end of the 4,000 miles to break it in I was genuinely impressed and grew to like it a lot.
As a lower end vehicles it has some shortcomings which are forgivable, but it has by far the most bang for the buck of any vehicle I've ever owned or driven, and I've driven everything from Chinese scooters to 80k LBS semi trucks. The only things I would change would be a stronger engine and transmission to allow relatively light duty towing, and give them much more comfortable seats. Admittedly the software engineers need to be fired. The software and UI functionality is reasonably useable, but it's not well designed, and the lack of refinement means the infotainment system is going to become extremely dated, confusing, and frustrating. For example, it uses Google Maps, but it isn't even updated regularly and generates very bad routes, and the voice features can't find most addresses or businesses no matter how specific and clear you are. I usually default to Google Maps on my phone.
I've driven a 2017 se for a little over 2 yrs. Best vehicle I've ever owned. Has never broke down

Umm, warranty? Depreciation? Independent suspension? Tyres? Full sized spare? Servicing costs? Insurance costs? Reliability? And I'm sure there's more even I have forgotten. Please, do a full test and not just a small test. Thanks.

10y/100k mile powertrain warranty. 5y/60k mile bumper to bumper warranty. Depreciation is pretty bad. No independent rear suspension, but rides better than some vehicles with independent rear suspension. Yes, it has tires (?). Servicing is cheap. No servicing needed on engine timing chain. 7,500 mile oil change intervals. First transmission fluid change required at 150k miles. 100k mile tuneups. It's a very low maintenance car. In my case, insurance was the cheapest among the compact sedans I received quotes for.
The Eco model may be the more interesting car. With peak torque kicking in at 1600 rpm and staying steady to aprox 5000 rpm it should feel more powerful than the base 2.0 liter...and get better mpg.
Does anyone know if used Hyundai’s are reliable or Honda Civic is more reliable?

I've heard the Sport will have independent rear suspension.
I like this better than it's sibling, the Forte. Standard 2.0L, and better looking styling vs the standard 1.8L and funky styling in the Kia. And completely opposite situation for the Optima/Sonata.
The 2017 Forte was still based on the previous generation Elantra, so older design and engine.
This car does look and feel upmarket for being a compact economy car. I don't feel like I'm driving a cheap car at all even though it was relatively inexpensive. I agree it feels a lot better quality than the Corolla, having driven that car too.
My gosh- Is John R. Scorsese tracking down EVERY 2017 Elantra post to promote the VW Jetta? Every post, every forum- there he is. I own a 2017 Elantra Limited and didn't have to think twice to make the purchase despite "the stalking" negative reviews from that guy, lol.
I own 3 elantras , moron! including the 2017 Eco, which should have independent rear suspension standard.

@@johnfranklin5277 My son owns it. Now has 80,000 miles and last week passed the strict Maryland state inspection with flying colors. Noticed you can pick these up now for as little as $6,000.

@@issaccaballero3929 yes but they are obviously not in the same league as Toyota or Honda’s but you can pick them up for a lot less, I got mine for a relatively cheap price and as long as you look after them they should last.
im a big dude 6'1 fatty. Could this be comfortable for me and passengers?
If you want space, I have to say no. The seats are kinda narrow and probably won't accommodate wider folks comfortably. The interior width probably wouldn't be comfortable to share with a passenger either if you are broad. It is a compact car after all.
I'm a little over 6.1, and 210 lbs. I fit fine and seats are very comfortable for me.

ive built a new civic several times on the Honda website fully loaded with a few addtional accesories....comes in at only less than $100 difference from the Elantra. Where are you seeing a loaded Civic is almost 30 thousand?
There is no Civic selling for $30G...even in Canada.
Doesn’t come standard with apple carplay. If u are lucky to get - u got it. But as of right now, its not installed by the official dealerships and if u don’t already have it - u may not have it at all
Totally incorrect. My 17 I bought in june of 16 was apple car play and android auto ready and good to go. The cheapest one se without popular package would come without it. Very few of them around as the popular package was very inexpensive.

between a 2015 honda accord or the 2017 hyundai elantra, which one is more reliable even over 100k? im getting a new car next month and i'm choosing between those two. looking for reliability more than anything else, but i don't really like toyota's otherwise i'd get one. I've heard honda's have always been reliable, and hyundai's used to have a low reliability rate, so i'm really curious about the newer models that i've heard are better.

You won't spend 30 grand for a fully loaded civic. mine topped out at just over 27 grand and that's because I opted for pin stripes down the sides and mud flaps.
I have hyundai 2018 used 2 yrs, absolutely no prblms. And I plan on taking it with me in the grave.
I drove the 2017 Elantra for two days. Then drove the 2016 Elantra, and I prefered it.
The 2017 is more bland looking (Chevy Cruze copycat), and about the same performance as the 2016. But where it falls short is the redesigned suspension. It's supposed to be closer to a Mazda or Civic. But it's not. Instead you get a harsh, uncomfortable initial feel when running over small bumps, followed by excessive swing over speed bumps. And it still uses a torsion bar in the back. Since this new model costs more than the 2016 (all things being new), you can get a much better deal on a similarly equipped 2016, with a smoother ride. Plus, the 2016 design is from 2011, so you know that all the kinks have been worked out already. Not so for this 2017...
I'll charge you $200 to tell you why this review is terrible. sorry.
Suspension from hell designed by Kim Jung himself, noise amplification system included in every level and a cornering ability that makes a carriage of yore seem like a dream,, better buy that Toyota, Honda or Mazda.
for the same money or less, as much as $10,000 less than the limited, you can get the vw jetta with standard gdi turbo engine, independent rear suspension and rear anti-sway bar . plus a lot less hard plastic inside. the elantra gt has a better engine, better interior, and better rear suspension for less money than this limited. grade this model a "F". huge disappointment. should confine sales to rental car agencies only.
the 2016 civic is way better. more mpg,full led headlights,more hp and torque and turbo engine

Art S PRIUS,LOL. if you liked it so much, why didn't you get another one. my 2017 elantra does not bounce at all, I have put 15000 miles on it. drives just fine. what kind of roads are driving to cause it to bounce around. ? did you buy a new elantra? if you bought an older used one, maybe it needs new shocks.
