It has a NON-Direct injection engine, and that is a GOOD THING because that means the engine has fuel spray cleaning off the backside if the intake valves, so you don't have to pay a mechanic $1,000 every 2 years for a 'DECARBONIZATION' of the engine valves. (Just ask any Lexus IS250 owners about that, they will tell you nightmares.) And it has a regular automatic, no Dual clutch type that jitters at crawl in traffic jams during commutes. And it has a normal VOLUME KNOB on the radio itself, something you won't find in a Honda Civic or Mazda 3. Thank GOD it has no CVT, I just hate a car with a CVT, I avoid them like the plague. And it comes with a regular parking brake handle, not that weird electronic parking brake button on the Civic. Yes, as far as the interior goes: If you like 1990's RETRO, then you will love the interior, if not then go get the new Civic instead.
Very good point. But most buyers aren't that into the details of engine. The benefits of GDI vs the long term maintenance is worth considering. But most folks will trade the car off before the valves get coked and choked. leaving the second owner to deal with the problem.
+Honesty Counts You forgot to mention that no compact car in this class (including the new UFO looking Civic) offers a height adjustment (up and down) for both front seats on ALL Elantra trim levels. A lot of people DON'T like sitting low into the seat like the one in the new Civic.
+Wes Razz Not sure if youre still looking for your answer, but I recently purchased a 2016 Honda Civic Touring and it is a very very nice ride. I cross-shopped this Elantra Limited as well however I really enjoy the size, comfort, power, and refinement of the Civic more. Im 6'2 BTW.
+femaledeer Most buyers of this class of car could not give a rat's behind what kind of suspension it has nor could tell the difference when they drive it.
+Konurrrrr I just traded my 13 Elantra GT for a '16 Elantra sedan. They allowed $8350 on trade in and they put it on their used lot for $13K. It had 79K miles and was in perfect condition.
An axle beam for the rear suspension, is just wrong. The tech is way too old. Hyundai should be able to add an independent suspension to it. Just consider the Civic top level trim. How can Honda able to pull it off with just a grand or so more. Come on Hyundai.
I would rather get the $17,000 out the door vw jetta, with gdi turbo engine, independent rear suspension and rear anti-sway bar. less money but superior performance and steering/handling. the new elantra is a huge disappointment.
+John R Scorsese There is no such thing as a new Jetta for $17,000.00 out the door dumb ass...LOL. Don't misinform people. The new Jetta WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION which most people won't get starts at $18,500.00 + tax and title. Opt for the one with automatic transmission and they start at $19,600.00 + tax and title PER THE OFFICIAL VW WEBSITE.
+Cindy Miller miss dum ass: lockport ny vw has 1.4 L turbo jetta, msrp $20,164, minus discount $3116, minus vw bonus $1,000 , buy out the door $16,048. tax and dmv fees are extra. next time, keep your trap shut when you do not know what you are talking about.
+Cindy Miller John is correct, in Oklahoma City we can purchase for $17k out the door as well, especially after Diesel-Gate, our dealers are blowing them out cheap!!!
Hahahah "millions" lol. It's a frumpy design. Many subcompact sedans have that design. and true, the Civic isn't a "beauty queen" but it doesn't look as bad as this. Plus it drives better.
1. port injection 2. no turbo 3. basic auto or manual transmission (no dct or cvt)= recipe for long-term reliability.
That moment when a budget compact car looks way better than your $35k " Premium Car "
Android Auto and Apple CarPlay stole my heart and even the interior of the car
Had this care two years. A cop was impressed by the speed it was going. It's a fun car. U can rip it safely and have a good time
I have the basic se with no touch screen. I got a bad deal
How come only 2 years?

it's a decent looking car
Which vehicle in this class is the most comfortable in your opinion for the driver? I am 6'1 280lbs. Thanks

@ Wes Razz
6'1" 280???? Perhaps a forklift.....?
+J High civic struggle to pull my fatass uphill
the eco model has a turbo
Why do these cut-rate reviews just read the spec sheets? We can do that ourselves.
How about actually giving us some info on HOW THE CAR DRIVES.
No mention that it still doesn't have an independent suspension which is a deal killer in my opinion.
+femaledeer Most buyers of this class of car could not give a rat's behind what kind of suspension it has nor could tell the difference when they drive it.
I have read that the Sport model will have independent rear suspension. And a turbo.
Neither does the new mazda 3. They pulled it out saying the twist beam is just as good.
2018 Elantra sport will have 1.6 turbo with 7 speed DCT, sport suspension and better brakes.
at what price and availability? if imported from korea , not made here, expect low numbers for sale and high prices. dealers will not sell below msrp.
The Sport also features 201hp 1.6 ltr/turbo engine.......
Hyundai is making better and better cars, very good value for what you get. the only issue is the resale value is horrible.
Have you looked online at used Elantras? They ain't cheap!
+Doug N actually I have an elantra myself. I don't know how it is in the US but in Canada they go for way cheaper used compared to other imports

Nothing at all impressed me here, it lagged behind in every category except the safety features were great the headlights and taillights are real nice

Hyundai has two things in its favor: the warranty, and never any airbags from takata.

To me, one of the ugliest compacts on the market. Always have been

Have you driven both??
