He wanted action. He said his favorite part of this one was the car chase. To me, other than the shoehorned subplot, the car chase was very unnecessary. Just there to give some action.
But he watched 2 before 1 so he already didn’t like 2 before even watching 1. He expected action and didn’t get it then blames the movie for not having action. Jeremy's 2025 Tally 2 Movie Reviews 1 AWESOMETACULAR 1 Won't Remember AWESOMETACULAR Better Man Not Going to Remember Den of Thieves 2 Case of the Mondays 😂
I saw a screening a few weeks ago with a Q&A with director afterwards, and he said most of the story elements SPOILER and mob b-story were taken from real life crims in this world, but the movie was kinda dull and trying to be a buddy comedy for first 2 acts, so all those “real life” elements felt undercut by the “funny moments”which ultimately hurt the movie. The first one was more serious and tried to keep tension. They tried comedic scenes in this one.
Interesting...Chris Stickman said the exact opposite but did say it was slow, either way...I love the two guys takes on movies and games. Besides I haven't even seen the first one...
For anyone else who saw it...were there subtitles when foreign languages were being spoken? There weren't for me and I didn't know if it was my theater or the movie
Topkapi, Rififi, Le Cercle Rouge, The Killing, Both The Thomas Crown Affair...etc. (OT: Which band's name do you want to see used in the title of Den of Thieves 3?)
Respectfully, I gotta disagree. I liked this film and I enjoyed the original as well. Love the chemistry between Gerard Butler and O'Shea Jackson Jr. Fun review though!
take a pinch of salt of course he found it boring because he watched the sequel first so he didnt have the first as development for the time we spent with the 2 characters in the sequel
I find it was very dumb for them to spoil that Gerard Butler's character wants to join the heist when he finally finds and confronts Jackson's character in the trailer. That whole twist didn't need to be spoiled in a trailer.
I know this isn't really a trademark, trade dress, copyright, brand confusion, whatever issue (for most people), but Pantera has my brand recognition. I've never heard of Den of Thieves. I really wondered if it was some kind of biopic but assumed i was wrong because how could there be a second Pantera biopic when I wasn't aware of a first? Tldr- the movie should have picked a different name.
This was pretty good, I’ll be honest, although I vaguely remember seeing it I really didn’t remember anything about the first Den Of Thieves movie, but when I saw this one coming out I decided to rewatch it and y’know what? It was actually a solid movie, and so it kinda rejuvenated my anticipation for this movie a little bit, and while this one was only ok it wasn’t bad Like the last movie I think the best things about it are Gerard Butler and O’Shea Jackson Jr, in particular O’Shea Jackson Jr, because I guess spoilers for the last movie, you find out at the end of the movie that he isn’t just an unknowledgeable getaway driver and that he’s really part of the actual gang, and so now in this movie you get to see him put on a totally new performance as an actual hardened criminal, and him and Gerard Butler have a very fascinating relationship, you can tell it’s a lot like Batman and Joker’s relationship, where even though one’s a cop and one’s a criminal they have sort of this like underlying respect for one another, deep down neither seems like they actually *want* to get rid of the other, the action is also a lot better than you’d expect it to be, it’s not like top tier but it is good, and I like that movie is actually a direct sequel that’s building off of the last movie and it isn’t just some half assed new cop movie with all new characters that they slapped Den Of Thieves 2 on just for recognition like Sicario 2, it’s a legit sequel and I do respect that I would say that’s it’s biggest problem is that compared to the first movie this one seemed like it was a bit slower, in particular towards the middle portion, I started to take notice that there wasn’t really a lot of action going on, also speaking of the middle portion there’s this really strange part during it where it suddenly gets all goofy and the plot starts to feel like a mafia comedy, when I saw it I was like “Umm, what’s happening right now?” Also since I just rewatched the first movie I’ll say this, there was a thing that happened with Gerard Butler’s character and his family in the first movie that I was hoping they’d expand more on in this movie but unfortunately they really didn’t, I think we got maybe *a tiny bit* but not as much as I was hoping for, and lastly the movie is too long, it definitely did not need to be 2 and a half hours long, 1 of the things I said about the first movie that also carried over into this movie is that the actual heist goes on for *WAY* too long, I’m not kidding when I say that the heists in these movies both went on for like 20 minutes, and in both cases it caused the heist to just feel like it drags, because the heist involves a lot of sneaking around and stealthing and after a while I was just waiting for the gunfire to start because it was getting so boring, you’re a Gerard Butler cop movie, not The Departed But for me as a movie I really didn’t care about I found it watchable, I don’t think it’s like super memorable or anything but for a 1 time watch it was alright, I liked that it actually continued the story, it had good character evolution and for a movie that I thought was gonna be totally forgettable it was pretty good. 6/10
Just TODAY I discovered these two films and decided NOT to buy DOT-2 until I saw the first one. It was okay, but, meh... Still, I contemplated seeing 2, and you just saved me the money. As always, THANK YOU, JJ! Cheers!
What does "entertainment" really mean anyway? Is it simply action sequences? I found 1917 very entertaining but is that worl appropriate for a single camera point of view tension builder? Does merely liking a movie equate to it being "entertaining"?
I was completely lost during the heist as to what the tech was doing….the concierge we never saw again after he discovered they’ve been robbed. Did the main bad guy from the first film did his wife get her cut? lotta convenience in this one and boy was it long.
I'm surprised a sequel was even made. I don't remember the first one doing that well. I wasn't overly crazy about it either, but I'm still interested in seeing this one and where the story goes.
The 1st film was an awesome action film. Loved it. I heard this 2nd film was more of a heist movie with less gun fights. I'm still gonna see it.
I'm gonna see it also,it's run time is 2 hrs & 24 minutes tho.
It’s slower than the first but still a fun movie.
Saw it today it was good. Def less action wise from the 1st movie but hoping for a 3rd movie pay off for that redemption.
This is exactly it. 2 was too long and drawn out.
I dug it. 🤷🏽
"You're not the bad guys, we are" was a great line from the first one. it should have been one movie

Theyre both great. Different, but great. Id happily watch one of these every Jan
Glad to see January is still January
Interesting...Chris Stickman said the exact opposite but did say it was slow, either way...I love the two guys takes on movies and games.
Besides I haven't even seen the first one...
For anyone else who saw it...were there subtitles when foreign languages were being spoken? There weren't for me and I didn't know if it was my theater or the movie
It was much better than the first!
The second was great 👍 funny ,good plot and full of action!! Fun movie 😊
Happy New Year to who ever reads this!
What is wrong with you guys? This movie was freaking AWESOME!
I’m done watching his movie reviews the guy doesn’t have a real review just him yapping to push content this guy shouldn’t even be popular
Topkapi, Rififi, Le Cercle Rouge, The Killing, Both The Thomas Crown Affair...etc.
(OT: Which band's name do you want to see used in the title of Den of Thieves 3?)
So, when I watch this on Amazon Prime in 6 months just skip to the 40 minute mark in the movie? Sounds good!
Respectfully, I gotta disagree. I liked this film and I enjoyed the original as well. Love the chemistry between Gerard Butler and O'Shea Jackson Jr. Fun review though!
paid sponsor??
@d0ntreply I wish! No, I think they're fun heist thrillers.
Damn! Was really looking forward to this. But thank you Jeremy for saving my money and time! Why I love watching your reviews!!
take a pinch of salt of course he found it boring because he watched the sequel first so he didnt have the first as development for the time we spent with the 2 characters in the sequel
Would love to hear your thoughts on Nimona on Netflix. I found it surprisingly good and thought through.
Favorite Heist movie continues to be Ocean's 11. Still one of my personal favorites of all time. 13 was good too.
I find it was very dumb for them to spoil that Gerard Butler's character wants to join the heist when he finally finds and confronts Jackson's character in the trailer. That whole twist didn't need to be spoiled in a trailer.
I wondered why I didn't remember the name "Den of Thieves". But if Jeremy didn't review it, that's probably why I didn't know.
The first is really good
"Den of Thieves 2: A Case of the Mondays" 🤣 That one got me.
0:32 J.J aint wrong i pay for this movie and legit fell asleep after nights of insomnia
123movies homie yw
I fell asleep in the theater
I guess Oceans 11 is still the high bar for "heist movie". Am I wrong?
As expected of the movies of today. Will wait for it to come to stream/dvd.
is it good as the first one or not ?
I know this isn't really a trademark, trade dress, copyright, brand confusion, whatever issue (for most people), but Pantera has my brand recognition. I've never heard of Den of Thieves. I really wondered if it was some kind of biopic but assumed i was wrong because how could there be a second Pantera biopic when I wasn't aware of a first? Tldr- the movie should have picked a different name.
Soo.. no ads today?.👀 well that's odd. This a Jeremy J stunt double?
This was pretty good, I’ll be honest, although I vaguely remember seeing it I really didn’t remember anything about the first Den Of Thieves movie, but when I saw this one coming out I decided to rewatch it and y’know what? It was actually a solid movie, and so it kinda rejuvenated my anticipation for this movie a little bit, and while this one was only ok it wasn’t bad
Like the last movie I think the best things about it are Gerard Butler and O’Shea Jackson Jr, in particular O’Shea Jackson Jr, because I guess spoilers for the last movie, you find out at the end of the movie that he isn’t just an unknowledgeable getaway driver and that he’s really part of the actual gang, and so now in this movie you get to see him put on a totally new performance as an actual hardened criminal, and him and Gerard Butler have a very fascinating relationship, you can tell it’s a lot like Batman and Joker’s relationship, where even though one’s a cop and one’s a criminal they have sort of this like underlying respect for one another, deep down neither seems like they actually *want* to get rid of the other, the action is also a lot better than you’d expect it to be, it’s not like top tier but it is good, and I like that movie is actually a direct sequel that’s building off of the last movie and it isn’t just some half assed new cop movie with all new characters that they slapped Den Of Thieves 2 on just for recognition like Sicario 2, it’s a legit sequel and I do respect that
I would say that’s it’s biggest problem is that compared to the first movie this one seemed like it was a bit slower, in particular towards the middle portion, I started to take notice that there wasn’t really a lot of action going on, also speaking of the middle portion there’s this really strange part during it where it suddenly gets all goofy and the plot starts to feel like a mafia comedy, when I saw it I was like “Umm, what’s happening right now?” Also since I just rewatched the first movie I’ll say this, there was a thing that happened with Gerard Butler’s character and his family in the first movie that I was hoping they’d expand more on in this movie but unfortunately they really didn’t, I think we got maybe *a tiny bit* but not as much as I was hoping for, and lastly the movie is too long, it definitely did not need to be 2 and a half hours long, 1 of the things I said about the first movie that also carried over into this movie is that the actual heist goes on for *WAY* too long, I’m not kidding when I say that the heists in these movies both went on for like 20 minutes, and in both cases it caused the heist to just feel like it drags, because the heist involves a lot of sneaking around and stealthing and after a while I was just waiting for the gunfire to start because it was getting so boring, you’re a Gerard Butler cop movie, not The Departed
But for me as a movie I really didn’t care about I found it watchable, I don’t think it’s like super memorable or anything but for a 1 time watch it was alright, I liked that it actually continued the story, it had good character evolution and for a movie that I thought was gonna be totally forgettable it was pretty good. 6/10
Just got back from it, it wasn’t that bad. Was it action packed like the last one? No But it was still a solid movie.
Look forward to seeing this mentioned again at the end of December ... 😂
Dropped it literally as I walk out the theater 🤣
I was completely lost during the heist as to what the tech was doing….the concierge we never saw again after he discovered they’ve been robbed.
Did the main bad guy from the first film did his wife get her cut?
lotta convenience in this one and boy was it long.
There is one scene between the two leads where it felt authentic and not phoned in. That's it
Are you gonna review creature commands?
You did review the first one. I remember you saying the opening to it was exactly like heat
What is with all of oshea jackson’s booking
Damn i was actually looking forward to this because the gunfights especially the sound design in the first one was phenomenal.
Gunfights were sick in the first one
This is a heist movie. They basically ditched the entire gunfight focus of the first.
I really like this movie jahns just yapping again for quick content
I'm surprised a sequel was even made. I don't remember the first one doing that well. I wasn't overly crazy about it either, but I'm still interested in seeing this one and where the story goes.
It only. Made like 80 m worldwide but I guess. It. Did wel. On digital and was well received so they decided it was worth making another one
@@emanuelsosa8 Oh yeah, I never considered post-theater watches. I guess that makes sense.
please review squid game 2!
