    I think LG wants a big difference between 2023 and 2024 models so they can clear out the 2023 inventory. For those who want latest and greatest they will pay a premium for a month since LG is the only TV maker with 2024 models released. Then prices will fall pretty fast.

      Last year’s C3 is still overpriced and wasn’t worth it for me as a spring buyer. The C4 won’t be any more competitive from the looks of it come this time next year. Look at the sale prices for 2023 TVs, they are much more in line with what FOMO is talking about. I have an 83 C1 that I got for a steal almost 2 years ago, and just got the B3 65 for just over $1000. The C3 was $500-600 more, not worth it as an extra TV (for me). Both of those regular prices are > $2k. No way anyone buys a 65 B3 for close to $2k nor a C3 for more than 2k. They would get a 90+ as FOMO outlines. I would too. LG should consolidate the A and B and make a few really inexpensive TVs going up to 83/90 inches with OLED. Even with a 60hz panel people would eat them up,

    I have Dolby Vision shut off (through Roku Ultra boxes) on all of my LG OLEDs. It is far too dark (crushing shadow detail) and regular HDR10 looks more dynamic and has more dimensionality. Dolby Vision implementation is a joke right now across all manufacturers. Even with perfect tuning though, in side by sides there is hardly a distinction that can be made between DV and HDR10. With the HDR and brightness capabilities of mid to high end TVs currently, DV isn't useful over HDR10.

  • @davidd6637
    @davidd6637 6 місяців тому +2

    I totally agree with FOMO, there’s no reasoning behind the C4 price hike. It was LGs best selling model-as well as the overall best selling OLED model-of 2023, so why not make it even cheaper. I also expect Sony to use QD-OLED for the A80M and have the WOLED A75M compete against the C4 since there’s basically nothing else for Sony to improve if they keep using WOLED for the A80M. As for LG, If there were higher standards for Dolby Vision certification then it would make more sense for them to use it only on premium models, but there really isn’t. By the way, premium models should support every video and audio format available and meet higher standards.

  • @loki76
    @loki76 6 місяців тому +1

    12:00 But if they don't upgrade, they will fall behind. MiniLED upgrades and improves every single year. OLED can't just stop upgrading. Hell C4 is already not an upgrade. Even more so the C-series haven't been an upgrade for 4 years now. But prices remain the same or increase. And MiniLED just goes down in price and improves several times-fold. IF they don't improve why would anyone buy it even at half the price. Who the hell wants to buy an OLED that is 4 years behind in "improvements". This is a stupid take. They have to lower prices and do incremental improvements.
    But they can't this is WHY OLED is dead. It can't improve without costing exorbitantly too much. And if if doesn't improve. Who cares about an 800 nit C4 vs a 5,000 nit, 5,000 zone QM8 or U8N at 85" vs 65" C4.
    They are digging their own grave. In fact they killed the C4 series when they didn't even give it the Alpha 11 processor. Now there is even LESS reason to buy a C4. But the price is the same.
    OLED is dying a slow death.
    Us Enthusiasts care about minute quality increases and pixel peep and nitpick. The vast majority just walks into a BB and have no clue and just see $2500 for 85" or 98" MiniLED and see that it looks almost as good as the OLED with the Demo content.
    This is why OLED is dead in the water. OLED is like Ferrari vs Pickup trucks and SUVs and sport cars. Very FEW people can buy the superior Ferrari and who NEEDS a Ferrari to get to and from work or go on a Drive vacation? If you get what I mean. A cheaper SUV or Pickup truck today has a lot of luxury and comfort. It's just can't do 0-60 in 3 seconds but do it in 6-7 seconds.
    OLED used to be vastly superior but dim. Now they are brighter and still superior. But by a lot less margin.

    The C series needs a heatsink or a reduced price!

    Could care less about DV and I'm about to put my money where my mouth is on that: I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on the Samsung QN90C in the 85" size where I can get it directly from Samsung for $1919. Most bang for the buck on ANY TV out there IMO and the fact that it won't have DV doesn't bother me in the LEAST. Most people can't even tell the difference between DV and HDR10+. I know I sure can't. I'll be upgrading from my 65" Sharp Aquos (smart TV's didn't even exist back then) so I'm sure I'm going to be extremely happy. Too many people make WAY too big of a deal over DV. Maybe DV should lower their licensing price.

      Using and wanting are two very different things. Do people actually use the 1000 hp of a Tesla Model S Plaid or something like that? Most likely, no. Do they still buy it, because they want it or think it is necessary? Yeah, absolutely. I've heard and seen many buy a C3 or G3 over a S90C or S95C, even though the LGs cost more and aren't as good. And there is generally one reason: DV. Will they ever use it? Will they like it? Meh? But will they avoid TVs without it? Absolutely.

    Maybe the US market is different, but in Germany a) there is a thing as too big... I've heard so many looking for TVs with less than 50" cause they can't fit anything bigger or don't want the TV to dominate the place. and b) people go nuts for DV. As in... if it doesn't have it, it doesn't sell. The S90C is significantly cheaper than the C3... and people will still buy the C3 like crazy. Despite being not nearly as good as the S90C. But the S90C doesn't have DV, so it is completely out of the picture. Does it matter that DV makes the image worse? Or that with a bright TV it hardly matters? No, not really. It is simply a check box that people require.

    FOMO, I think you are making WAY too much of the importance of the 80"+ segment of the market here. That part of the market is absolutely TINY and it's not really growing at all. There's a reason for that. Keep in mind here that for the average American household 83" or 85" is just FAR too big for any room. Sure, consumers think they look cool in the stores, but that's not what they end up actually buying. Far less than 1% of TV buyers today even consider a screen size above 75", let alone ever buy one. There's not enough VOLUME at that size for it to really matter to ANY manufacturer. (Hint: Most wives put their foot down at 65" and barely even let their husbands bring home a 75" screen. Do you know how often a wife let's her husband bring home an 83" or 85" screen? Almost never.)

    All this nonsense that consumer don’t know difference because of poor customer service at the retail level
    Example I go into Best Buy Magnolia room I never see a salesperson there. I can walk around for an hour before seeing an employee. When I do see one they go to the back room and totally ignore you.
    If the retailer won’t help then of course the cheapest TV at the same size will buy the inexpensive model.
    When I ran a retail store in the sixty’s. I had to education the public coming into my store why high end tv and stereo system was worth the money. Once that’s done I had returning customers plus they cannot go back to cheaper products.
    I hope retailers wake up and release you have to offer one on one service. If they don’t retailers will close their doors!!!

    You keep talking about 98" as though that MiniLED only sell at the really big sizes. This isn't the case.
    There are likely more MiniLED sold at all sizes than OLED. If a person wants a 65" TV they can get a QM8 for $1500 vs $2700 for a sh*tty C4 that is way dimmer etc. If you want something that competes then you need a G4 and then the price is $3400 for a 65". When most other MiniLED cost less.
    MiniLED is outselling at ALL sizes, period. Samsung sold 36 million TVs in 2023. The sold less than 1 million of their own OLED. That is 35x less TVs than LED and MiniLED.
    I am getting a MiniLED in the form of Sony. It won't be 98" it might be 75 or 85". It will likely cost the same or more than the top range OLEDs. I choose it because it's overall better IMO and doesn't have ASBL and crap like that. I always watch movies with Ambient light behind the TV. So the TV room is dimly lit, but not dark. Any great miniLED rival OLED that way.
    The Sony if as good as it's said to be. Could make that case even more.

    Samsung don't consider OLED to be their flagship TV technology- that's Neo QLED. This helps to explain the pricing strategy.
    Maybe US consumers will consider an 85in+ TV but I couldn't fit one in my small British house. (Our houses are, on average, half the floorspace of yours).
    LG Display won't be able to reduce the production costs of large OLED tv panels without investing in its fabs. Sadly the P10 fab for large panels has been indefinitely delayed and the building will be used for a new IT OLED line. That's the growth market for OLED tech - phones, tablets, monitors, car displays, maybe OLEDoS for VR in future.

    For the Dolby Vision vs HDR argument, I have an LG C1 (55) tv so I can watch content in Dolby Vision or HDR. I recently bought a Google Chromecast 4K an it allows you to choose between Dolby Vision or HDR. I made some tests and I prefer HDR as it's brighter (I don't watch my content with a cinema calibrated picture, I prefer a brighter and more colorful picture). So I guess Dolby Vision is really for the super purists who love a perfectly calibrated image.
