The key to making great art of bees like this is to make them precious-baby-sized and friend-shaped. Perfection!

Dear Paul, I realize that this is one of your older tutorials, but I SO hope that you find this and are able to read it. It has been only fairly recently that I have been fortunate to have found your videos and I have always found myself absolutely mesmerized. Your incredible talent, your unbelievable attention to detail and your wonderful gift as a teacher have captivated me. As an older lady, who has decided to pick up her paintbrush after oh so many years, I have been hungrily watching many, many videos of all sorts (watercolor, acrylic, pen and ink, etc) and all styles, from the most loose to the most realistic. In all of the hours that I have spent and both learning and refreshing my knowledge, I have subscribed to many (of course, yours) and have yet to ever become a Patreon of any of them. I must tell you that this video, in particular, has pushed me over the edge. The real time painting of each individual area (the petals, the leaves, the bee), the colors and your very special techniques were all so easy to follow. Although I actually missed your always fascinating and entertaining dialogue, I found that it was still very, very easy to follow along and learn. This is the very first time that I have seen a Utube artist use this format and I must say, I certainly wish more of them did. The time lapse tutorials can be such a turn off for me. Although they are fascinating to see the painting come to life, they are so much more of a struggle to learn from. The way that you took the time to edit and break this particular video into it's most integral parts is pure magic!
I am very pleased to advise you this incredible effort on your behalf has pushed me over the edge. I am so very proud and pleased if you would have me as one of your Patreon members, of whom there must be so many. But, I promise you that you will have no other more avid, more studious or more happy student. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing all of the magic that you do!!!!! I sooooooo hope that you find this far too long missive, but I had so, so many important things to that I really wanted to share with you.

Hi Deborah, thank you for such a glowing report and my work, and I have to thank you so, so much for typing all your kind praise.
As you now know, I simply chat as if you were there with me, and most of my recordings are in real-time, so very little voice over, I only speed yup my repetitive bits once you know what to do of course. I just like to talk as I paint, and for me, I find this way much more natural and comfortable that speaking into a microphone whilst watching a screen, it's not really me. 🤨
My partner Jo and I put the UA-cam videos together, my recordings and Jo's clever editing work. So thank you from the two of us.
As for Patreon, I'm sure you know where it is, but just in case others don't here is the link: www.patreon.com/TheDevonArtist
The good thing is that people can now join any time of the month and be charge the following month on the same signup date. Before, Patreon 'always' charge on the 1st of the month, no matter when you joined! 😞
Patreon selected my channel to trial the new payment method out, so perfect for anyone such as yourself considering joining. At least you know what I'm like with my work, plus also because I am just being me, the kind of person I am as a teacher.
It's good to know you have picked up those brushes and enjoying getting those paints wet, keep painting! Paul 🎨

Have to make a comment on this beautiful flora and fauna watercolour. I stumbled across your UA-cam site today as I was looking for a watercolour squirrel image, which I watched and have saved. I then scrolled down to realise that the photo you've used is one of my friends on Flickr. I told him about and he sent me the photo you had sent him of this image. I'm a self taught beginner in water colour and maybe one day I will be able to paint something as lovely as this. Noticed on your website you'd sold the original. Not surprised in the least. I shall follow you with interest. Regards Yvonne

Thank you Clemencia, the way I paint more than one line at a time is by using a comber brush, or one I have made myself. Here is a little video, an old video but it will give you some ideas. Paul ua-cam.com/video/7ikhfRWh_q8/v-deo.html

I just bought your pdf tutorial from Etsy because I thought it would be nice to have something that’s easy for me to look at, and not worry about missing something in the video. However, it’s a real treat to find your video of that same tutorial here! My question is about Opera Pink. I’m seeing it being used in a lot of watercolor paintings, and hard to believe, but it’s one I don’t have. Is there something else I can use for now? And how important do you think it is to have this color? Thank you.

    • @TheDevonArtist
      @TheDevonArtist  2 роки тому +1

Hi Anne, thank you very much. Opera Rose isn't a must to use colour, as long as you have something similar to it that's all that matters. Even a watered down scarlet lake with a touch of mauve would be nice as well. Obviously, you know that the full 4 hours 43-minute video is one of my website for these tutorials as well, so plenty of instruction to watch through. 😃
Thank you again for your lovely comment. Paul 🎨

@@TheDevonArtist Thank you, Paul! You are always wonderful about getting back to people. I have so many colors, and it amazes me how each artist seems to have that one color I don’t have!! But, I have plenty, and I thought one thing I would do was look at the photo to see if I could come up with something similar. I enjoy that process, too.
I really appreciate having the pdf so I can easily go back to a spot or highlight something important. I haven’t been painting much for awhile, and I’m having a hard time getting started. Of course, my high expectations for myself don’t help either!

Hi Crazed, not just this one video tutorial, but you can simply join for one month on my website to access this and over 85 other video lessons as well. devonartist.co.uk/memberships/
You could also simply buy my step-by-step PDF version as well if it's easier for you. This is a very involved document, so I do go deeply into everything I do. devonartist.co.uk/product-category/watercolour-pdf-tutorials/
