- The SSR was a convertible truck from Chevrolet. On the outside you will see a retro style them of a 1940's-1950's Chevy pickup truck, 19/20in wheels and folding hard top. On the inside will be welcomed by seating for two. Under the hood is a 5.3L V8 mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. Is the 2004 Chevrolet SSR the KING of RETRO performance cars?

I miss so many cars from the 2000s
So do I
Me too
Who remembers the Super Bowl ad for this thing when it was about to be coming out. They showed off the top coming down in the ad
I do too
I miss the 2000’s! They made very cool cars back in the day, and this one’s a great example. I actually thought the SSR was ugly, but it’s actually a cool car!
6:30 I’m lovin’ it! (McDonald’s pun)
Such truth. Different ideals, and inspirations drove design concepts back then. Trendy technology, 0:19 Agendas and regulatory crap did not define vehicle concepts. just innovation to be different.
You definitely speaking facts
@@tigerhoods7927 You know it!
You found an icon I was a huge fan of the SSR!
Props to Chevy for doing this
Remember being a kid walking to school and seeing this truck parked at this house and i wanted it bad, then later on i saw my first corvette yellow zo6 and i honestly forgot about that truck😂 😢
2004 being considered retro hurts my soul....
I don’t know who told you that but this car is meant to look like a 1950 hot rod truck
This was retro in 2004
Wow what a cool yellow car I like it raiti's
Thanks for letting me share it with you!
Even though I don't like convertibles I'd make an exception for this. Is like a guilty pleasure for me.
Hey joe this chevrolet ssr this is awesome
I’m so glad that you like this s one Mark!
The 6.0 SSR, Trailblazer, GTO and vette were badass.
This is so very true
I wanted hummer h3t alpha so bad until I found out about the mpgs and gas prices were at like $4.50 a gallon in Connecticut where i used to live in around 2007 2008. And one of my friends had a 2005ish GTO and he put some aggressive cams in it and that thing was an absolute rocket ship and pretty sure it was mostly an Australian car
my dad was in a chevy dealer when those were out . a salesman came over and was talking and commenting, "what we'd really like is a new Camaro"
The SSR is such a fun car to own. Cheap, reliable, and interesting. Not much room inside though so don’t consider any long drives
You hit the nail on the head
Nice color 👌🏾
It really pops in the sun!
lol i always loved the retro styling in the 2000's. allot more interesting than the cars today. just my thought
Waiting on convertible PT cruiser turbo review now 🚗
Wow glad you got this super cool Chevrolet SSR Convertible to review bro
Also, Joe, just a request talking about older Chevys, I was interested in seeing your take on a 2017 Chevy SS?
I will track one down for you
@@RaitisRides 👌
Joe how about a Trailblazer SS with 6.0?
My mom had the 6.0L LS2 in hers. It was a fun vehicle to drive.
Definitely unique…..looks in great shape !
I remember the SSR that was an nice truck and the perfect name would be the Twinkie yellow SSR
This was great! I hope you'll do more reviews of older cars. My wife had one of these around 2008 and it was fun as heck.
You got it my friend.
I actually seem one of those in red at a car show on Friday. Also it actually used the same engine is the Corvette. Also It whould be pretty cool to see a new version of it at some point.
That would be fascinating
@@RaitisRides absolutely right. It probably be a hybrid V8 or a ev .
@@RaitisRidesI second that. Joe we need your opinion on the badass Australian GM imports! GTO 5.7/6.0, G8 GT/GXP, Chevy SS, and maybe a highway patrol caprice if you can track one down!
Probably my second favorite car of all time (behind the Camaro). I need to find a way to get one of these!
The Twinkie look makes it. Maybe a family could get together and buy it as a gift for a grandpa.
That would be the coolest grandpa ever he should have a Twinkie necklace too
Jor, I think that this truck is a unicorn truck looks & even though it's low on tech by modern st&ards it looks good.
It really is a standout!
@@RaitisRides They do notake them anymore.
Cool device!
I’m glad that you like this one
And a year later you could get an LS2 in it with 90 more horses and a... yup, 6 speed manual 😲
Now all we need is Savagegeese to a full breakdown.
The SSR and the Prowler are/were very attractive cars and well worth owning!!!
Definitely an interesting Cruck-veritable
I like what you did there
Great video! I love these
Ahh. Back in the day when cars looked cool again.
That's why I bit when the salesman rolled out a Kia Soul. Who wants a car that looks like all the others?
This is so very true
Always loved this vehicle. Still so cool today. This & the Prowler were truly unique. Thanks Joe.
Buy it, Joe! Add it to the fleet. lol
I like it but not that much LOL
This is definitely rad. I Expected a little better performance numbers, but it's not always all about ridiculous HP and speed. I am sure it is a pleasure to cruise around in. Head turner for sure. 💙☮️👍👍
That’s why they don’t make hard top convertible roofs hardly any more they’re nice but super heavy
My Buddy in Ohio has the 2005 with 6.0L V8 with 700R4 with Overdrive Automatic price in 2005 was $51,000 but he put LED HEADLIGHTS , Infotainment system it in Car Show around the Twin Cities ( Minneapolis) he move here in 2021
Gonna have to zonk those engine revs
My neighbor has one right now in that exact same color. Love this truck
Amazing review Joe.
Thanks for letting me bring it to you!
very unique looking.
That is so very true
Don't let their arch nemesis hear about this, dammit Chevrolet from murky water Florida
You are freaking hilarious
I'm just glad this thing exists. A true gem in the car world.
I agree with you!
One of my guilty pleasure dream cars next to the Plymouth Prowler.
Very Unique, Fun review
Yes of course Joe & I would had buy this car.
SSR is cool, but the Plymouth Prowler was one I always wanted!!!
If only that one had a V8
I got to test drive these at an event called Autos in Motion, way back in January of 2004, at the LA County Fairgrounds, IIRC. They also had Hummers, the Cadillac performance cars, like the CTS with the V8, Corvettes and more.
That is so really cool!
convertible Taxi, one rider only
I don't like yellow for a car color. Too severe. Give me a secondary color: orange, green, purple. Something that will stand out without hurting my eyes.
When I was a kid, I loved this car. (still love it) I wish that the Big Three could do the "retro revival" stuff again. Now all they care about is dumb EVs, big trucks, & SUVs. 2000s were such a horrible time and a great time at the same time😂😂😂😂😂
There's a guy with a blue one in my neighborhood. His seems to be in great shape, too. Absolutely a fun looking and driving "truck".
That is really cool!
That V8 sounds really good.
Always thought these were so cool! Would love to own a manual one!
Joe and Lori and Steve keep up the good work real true and I love the video real true 👍 and I love ssr look good 👍
just one thing i noticed. you closed the tailgate before the tonneau cover (not good). always close the tonneau cover before you close the tailgate on the SSR.
One of a kind fun vehicle....I wonder if Jay Leno has one? Thanks Joe !!!
I don't know Raiti. I really have mixed feelings about this Twinkie SSR. I like the idea, but I don't think it came fully out to its potential. Also, cudos to the previous owner putting the screen in, good call there. But if I wanted to get a Chevy from 2004, I would just go S10 to play it safe. This SSR is too funky for my taste. 😆
I would go C5 Corvette
@RaitisRides I like your taste, Raiti 👍🏻
I’d totally ❣️ to drive and own one 🙌
This is a cool car. I liked when companies were more playful. They had some big misses too but also some really funky cars that never would get green lighted today. Granted given how poorly these old maybe they never should have seen the light of day.
I have silver 05' SSR, still keep it from my mom till today.
I see what you did there!
Chevy hired the designer of the pt cruiser for the High Heritage Roof.
Need the 2005-2006 version
Interesting vehicle
what is that mark on the windshield? is it cracked?
No not at all. It is the antenna
I always called this the Punch Buggy Pickup
why couldnt I get UA-cam and this video 20 Years ago.
Classic
It really is
@@RaitisRides yes sir
I forgot all about these lol.
Id only get one with the 6.0 and manual.
thought that title belonged to the Plymouth Prowler 😁
I guess it depends on who you ask.
Plymouth Prowler is a close second.
This is so very true!
You might have to learn brail!!!lol😂 😂 that’s a funky car I forgot about those
Damn that engine looks so good.
I am so glad that you are digging this one Cody.
@@RaitisRides I’m from the southeast and am in my early 30s all of the truck guys here had one of these things
Total Boomermobile, but I've always had a soft spot for them. I've always liked cars that don't make sense.
Made more sense than a 2004 thunderbird
@@Big.W. That's true.
I never thought it was cool, but I always thought it was weird.
I agree that this was a rare car but I actually know two people in my small Northern California town that own one and both are yellow.
That is a really crazy Johnny!
Uh oh. Joe is the new Doug.......
DeMuro.
👏👏
Good luck getting parts for it. Lol
🙏🙏🙏
Super cool car, too bad people don't care for cool cars, most just want plain Jane Toyota, well you got em
This yells to be in a manual. Can you not get this in a manual?
That would be awesome!
NOT A FAN!!! Just sayin
Come on Joe ssr ??? Really
the concept is cool but it looks so ugly from the front lmao
Not that rare, easily found on marketplace 😂
No
