The way to remember port and starboard, as well as which side has a green light and which has a red light, is that, if you're facing forward, all of the shorter words (port, left, and red) are the same side, while all of the longer words (starboard, right, and green) are the other side. Of course, that only works if you're facing forward, which is why there's a special word for "not your left, the ship's left."
Great Connections. I am not completely ignorant of Chinese philosophy. But the five synonyms around the green group group threw me off until I eventually scored the answer. Two mistakes for me. Excellent Mini. My time was 2:12. Thank you Wyna! Tough Strands. I avoided misclicks but I saved the spangram for last.
Connections, I had a perfect solve, but I also didn't think to hunt for Purple, I just let it settle to the bottom. All I saw there, each word had a stark opposite, which is the foundation of the Yin & Yang Chinese Philosophy (I didn't describe that aspect before the reveal however). I felt the puzzle was on par with yesterday which is why I predicted they would give it a 3.0. It's funny how the light blue was the easiest category today. My solve pattern (yellow, light blue, green, purple) was common, like 1 in 31. Mini Crossword. My time was almost twice that of yours. As soon as I filled in Chex, I could get Styx. Strands took me a bit longer than normal. I saw EVENT, HOLIDAY and APPOINTMENT. Took me a while to find the Spanagram and the rest was easy to find. Didn't have to take a hint or try any random words.
I was one away on lots of different categories in connections and I'm not too precious with my guesses so i failed out. Hard mini crossword today. Strands was tough to break into but once I found event I was off to the races
I'd suggest that my not knowing American cereal brands made the mini extremely hard but I somehow couldn't think of Attic either, which I really should have been able to. No mistakes for me on the Connections (Blue Green Yellow Purple), while I think the thing I found hardest about strands was spelling Calendar.

And if you speak in English...
I got the standard rainbow on connections. I didn't know what purple was so that was last. Strands was a pain for me too. I needed 2 hints.
it's more than just them having opposites, they are all represented by the 'white' part of the yin yang symbol (hence the associated principles).
You could write 'event' two ways today in Strands
I got perfect reverse rainbow. That's very rare for me.
I was also stuck on opposites or other half 😂

I was pretty proud of myself with today's Strands, found Date and then Calendar and was able to get the rest pretty quickly.

The second row was a reference to "Host Bowen Yang" from SNL. Each of the words in that row went into a category. I realise NYT is obsessed with SNL
1st!
