A little late to the dance in finding this video, but appreciate having now seen it. It caught my eye because I too have the all black Gerber Dime and have carried it faithfully and happily every single day for just over two years. I believe I’ve used each and every tool on it. I probably use the scissors, tweezers and pliers most often, as I also carry a folding clip knife for cutting jobs. The tweezers are precisely angled and have aided in removing countless splinters. And I use the pliers quite a bit. They’re especially handy when lifting piping hot pot lids and dropping the snuffer / simmer lid down onto a lit Trangia stove. Just countless ways to use them. And like you I think they are absolutely a great buy.
I have mine also for 2 years, on my keys but the scales now have almost no colour. But no problem, patina is cool. I bought it for the tweesers, because I can't stand getting metal splinters in my hand. The tweesers are very good, had to adjust a little right out of the box but I would say they are holding up strong. Other the that the scissors you have to force the blade at an angle to cut good. The wire cutters chipped really fast. It is a good tool, for the price and a great tool for the size, but don't expect the toughness of a big multitool.
I know the nail file/screwdriver, because of it's shape, will also fit smaller philips head scews like on your computer or phone, so maybe that's what they mean with the extra function? But I totally agree for it's size it's a great tool for small everyday tasks. I carry it in my coin pocket.
I love my dime. I love that i can clip it onto my keys and it's smaller than my swiss army knife. It's the only tool I actually carry every single day.
Nice review. I have had one for 2 years as well. Luv it. Also added paracord, but put a crabiner on the keychain loop, and carry it attached to one of my belt loops. The small size makes it invisable when wearing an untucked shirt. It ha been super handy for small isues.
Nice review. Just bought one and it feels like a really good multi tool, ie one that I’m likely to keep on my person that doesn’t get in the way or feel too chunky. I’m sure I’ll be using it heaps!
Love my Dime and use it every day. Unfortunately the tweezers are flimsy and tweezers broke on the first day but I just replaced them with a spare pair of Victorinox tweezers I had which are far sturdier.
Messing around with mine I've found the file will get a good spark from a ferro rod, the plier jaws are also ok for that. I also think I've found a way to hold a jigsaw blade in the bottle opener extending it's use, feels safe enough for me but might be a risk of slips and cuts so I wouldn't advise it for anyone else.
I contacted Gerber a few weeks ago about repair/replacement of a Dime I’ve carried and used daily for years. I broke the spring on the blade. I took a couple pictures and sent them in and the replacement arrived today. I’ll keep the broken knife for parts. I missed my Dime while I waited for a replacement because I had to carry a larger Gerber DET during the interim period. The company was easy to work with when I asked about repairing my Dime. I like the Dime better than the Leatherman Mica because the Dime has pliers and I think the scissors are better. I don’t think the blade design on the Dime is as good as the Micra. The Micra chisel bevel suits me better than than the double-bevel of the Dime blade.
Can't figure out how to lock the pliers so BOTH handles are straight. One is straight relative to the handle, the other is kind of loose and springy: useless. How do I lock that one so it is a proper handle for the plier tool? Thanks!
May be a faulty tool. I will say reach out directly to Gerber. They have amazing customer service and warranty. I broke a fixed blade knife, they replaced with no questions asked.
Thanks for watching. I used once to sharpen a fish hook, file my nails a few times when I had hang nails, and something else but can’t remember. It is handy to have in a pinch.
Good tool for the price. After 6 months the pliers gave and now don't close. And the scissors are pretty bad. Other than that it's been pretty handy for small tasks. I do prefer the Leatherman squirt ps2 which I lost. File is more usable if you extend the tool.
The Micra is very clumsy for sure. I bought it and never used more than a few times. Then I got the Squirt PS4--just awesome. Been carrying it for 13 years. I just bought a Dime on sale in case I lose the Squirt or it breaks.
@@CommissionerManu probably using them on a bolt some mechanics' pliers should have been used on, then complaining. I've used mine over 2 years now for multiple "small repairs" and regularly use the pliers when I'm hand sewing with my awl, love that stupid tool even though I don't like Gerber stuff usually.

Thanks for this. I've been looking for a good multitool for my two oldest boys. I think this one might be perfect for them.
Great video, you helped convince me to buy one. I got the green and silver one . But black is nice. Thank you!

I just ordered one. I gave my wife one a couple of months ago. I hope I use it regularly!
Awesome. I use mine all the time.

The file/screwdriver thing works as a great awl on small things

That's awesome. Yes, I love my dime. I had to use the warranty process on my Freeman Guide and it was smooth as well.
Can anyone recommend a small edc pocket for a gerber dime and nicron B10 torch

Great video, can I ask what you used the file on? I don't find a use for it at all with it being so small
Thanks for watching. I used once to sharpen a fish hook, file my nails a few times when I had hang nails, and something else but can’t remember. It is handy to have in a pinch.
Where the heck are the tweezers at? I can't find them.
Package opener side and bottle opener end. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
As soon as I had it out of the package, it snapped shut, pinching me terribly

Beats the Leatherman Micra handsdown
I haven’t used the Leatherman Micra.

I used the pliers once and they bent. I didn’t even squeeze hard. Not going to buy another. Garbage.
Just curious, cos I may have different use needs to you, what were you using the pliers on when they bent?
