You being so pro black in your reasoning to ensure your daughter will feel good enough with how her hair texture and type has made me subscribe to you. I dont even have kids but thats so important.

Thank you for sharing this! You are an amazing communicator and I love watching your videos. I have 2 year old sisterlocks and my nine year old daughter has been asking for the same. I was nervous at first, but after taking a month or so to really consider her thoughts and desire for the style I absolutely support her. We will establish locs soon. I am no longer concerned about her age. It is not an indicator of readiness in my opinion. We have to love our girls, listen and then move forward with the choice that will best support them owning their beauty in a healthy way. ♥️ I can't think of anything healthier than teaching her that she doesn't need to alter her hair or use tons of products to "manage" it or retain length. Teaching her this lesson while she is young should definitely help her in the long run.

Thank you so much for the compliment and watching the video.
I love the way you’ve outlined why Sisterlocks is a good choice for your daughter - that whole thought process and journey is relatable for many of us. I’m sure your daughter will love her locs and the fact that it’s her asking for them is a reassuring factor in my opinion.
I watch your videos too so it’s lovely to have you here 😊

You've made a lot of great points - and like you, I haven't seen Sisterlocks on children here in the UK either. I used to do my daughter's hair in plaits ever week....

    • @leeceyleece2406
      @leeceyleece2406  4 роки тому +1

Love Those Locs thank you. I used to typically plait my daughter’s hair every other week if I could get away with it as I realised her hair did well the less I interfered with it which is why locs suit her so well. It’s honestly saved our bonding time and loving relationship 🥰. Thank you for watching.

Yes... I am all for locs, especially sisterlocs for wee girls. They love to embrace what God gave them and shine bright like the diamonds they are. Your wee one is muy BELLA. I love the freedom and confidence locs bring.

Thank you so much for creating this video. My daughter is only six and we’ve already had such an emotional journey about hair. I’ve decided to lock her hair. I’ve had Sisterlocks for 4 years and she has seen the growth. I am looking forward to having this special way to bond as well.

So my 4 yr old said that she wanted locs like mommy's. She is tenderheaded and has been all her life. For her first bath at the hospital when the nurse washed her hair, she screamed. So yes I have been considering locs for her. I am 9 months microlocked. I twisted up my hair and interlock for retightenings. Strangely, when we looked at pictures, my daughter did not like the kids with long sisterlocs or microlocs. She actually picked out pictures of kids with shorter neck length/shoulder length locks; ones I think mimics what her hair would look like if it were locked. She also liked the pictures of shorter hair locs. Her hair reaches mid back length stretched, and shoulders unstretched. Im not sure what to do. Its stressful for the both of us doing her hair because she is so tenderheaded and I do believe locs will make it easier. I explained that if you decide that you do not want your locs anymore, they would have to be cut off. I asked her questions to see if she understood what it means. I also even told her that your locs will grow long and if they grow too long and you do not like it, we can cut them shorter without cutting them off. I dont understand how a long haired girl dont like long hair. But she was pretty persistent with wanting locs. I have even done mini twists hairstyles and everything is heaven when she has them. Washing, moisturizing, smoothe sailing. Any advice?

    • @leeceyleece2406
      @leeceyleece2406  4 роки тому +1

I love that your daughter knows her own mind so young and persists in repeating that she prefers shorter locs, bless her ❤️
Sounds like you’re doing a great job engaging and understanding what your daughter wants and needs and painting a picture of what is to come.
I think low manipulation styles are key for us tender heads because pain isn’t enjoyable at all.
I’m wondering if you can opt for styles that stay in for longer before making a final decision? Braids? But then your daughter says that she wants hair like yours and you have locs, so what’s stopping you?
My only advice is to do what’s right for you and your daughter - because you can live with that and we inherently know what’s best for us and ours.
I’ve never regretted locking my daughters hair, on the contrary, every day is a breeze pretty much and that’s what we were seeking.
It doesn’t make sense to me to use combs and brushes on scalps that can’t cope with them, not when there is a beautiful alternative.
Please let us know what you decide to do and best wishes x

I know you're probably tired of hearing this from me, but you do such an amazing job with your daughter's hair Lisa! It always looks nice no matter how it's styled or if it's just hanging loose. This video was so thoughtful and enlightening and I hope it helps other moms who may be considering locking their child's hair, or having sisterlocks installed in particular. Since starting my natural hair journey seven years ago I've always been about hair love and hair positivity, especially for our young black girls. You are setting a wonderful example for your daughter and others!! ✊🏾✊🏾👍🏾👍🏾

You have such a way with words. I could listen to you for hours! I've been following you for a bit with my personal account (brown eyed), but then recently started this account with my daughter focused specifically on our tiny locs. I'm going to take a cue from you and talk about why I decided to install her locs at the tender age of 4. I have gotten a bit of judgement, mostly from other mothers who just assume that they are extensions without bothering to ask (I guess I could take that as a compliment 😆). But for the most part it's been largely positive.

Thank you so much - that’s really kind. I appreciate you watching and commenting.
I’m sorry that you’ve faced a bit of judgement, I honestly don’t think I have - or perhaps I just haven’t noticed. But I hear of many people facing judgement about locs, more so when they are on children, which I think is a shame.
Oh - really look forward to your video about your daughter and your decision, I think the more of us that share, the more people we reach and the more people become aware of different options. I’m so glad we did it, would never look back.
I’m going to do an update video on my daughters locs very soon.
Take care and thank you for your continued encouragement.

Okay you basically have the same ideas I have on this. This upcoming detangling session will be my daughters last of sobbing for hours… until she so chooses for them to come out, then I will help her do that. Thanks for sharing your opinion on this! 🥰

I have seen so many who were outright dogmatic about the issue of children getting Sisterlocks. But my goodness it's not an issue of morality it's simply a hairstyle- that prevents that poor child from getting their hair combed for hours and crying over detangling sessions!

It’s strange that some of us spend more time worrying about what we put on our children’s head rather than in it.
Honestly, it was an easy decision for us because I’m already locked. I believe parents should do what’s best for their families and leave others to do the same.

Thank you very much for the video, I have had sister locks for 8months now, I love them. I want them for my daughter too she just turned 4 years old. I am thinking of moving to a country with no sister locks consultant in about 1year's time and I wanted to install them for my daughter I was wondering what time would be best. But this video was helpful as my consultant has advised once set someone else can retight them for her as long as they don't interlock them. Was lovely to see your daughter's journey. I am based in Manchester

So glad the video was useful and I’m delighted that you’ve got sisterlocks and are considering them for your daughter.
Best decision I could have made for mine because she’s experiencing true hair freedom - no trials and tribulations or wishing for long shaky hair as I did as a kid. She loves her locs.
I retighten my daughters locs which works very well for us - it’s very 6 weeks but it seems to come round so quickly!
I do enjoy doing it whenever got much faster which is good because her locs have grown fuller and thicker.
It’s a good choice and low maintenance really so no major issues.
Wishing you all the very best on your journey and everything that follows.

@@leeceyleece2406 how did you learn to retighten your daughter's locks? Did you retighten from the beginning or after a few months? I am getting them for my daughter definitely. My consultant advised near 5years old as she might be able to sit longer and also her hair will not be baby hair anymore. I am counting the months. Maybe coming September before school starts I will see if my consultant happy to do them. Your daughter's locks are very beautiful, It really inspired me.

Hey, thanks for this video. Am really struggling with my daughter’s hair ; so I have started on the sister lock journey. However, the parts I am so far done with already have build up (lint), even when I put something to cover her hair at night. What would you advise for me to use to avoid lint buildup?
