  • If you need help raising a baby bird, you can use the information and diet on this video. You can send me questions, I will try and answer them as soon as I can.
    For more info you can visit this following page which is for baby Sparrows and Starlings but works for most wild baby birds. www.wildlifehotline.com/wp-con...
    Birdy, our baby European Greenfinch was orphaned when high winds dropped him from his nest. He was only 5 days old. This was the first time we ever found ourselves in such a situation and we hope that our experience can help others who find themselves raising a baby bird.
    Remember: Birds are meant to be free, to fly and live in the open sky...

    It's not crazy..believe me..they remember. I once raised a wild baby bluejay . Me and my ex separated and the bird (Mr. Blue) ended up 50 miles away with a friend. One day the lady forgot and had the window open and Mr Blue took off. I by this time had no idea what had happened to him and was just going on with my life. One day about 1 year later (trying not to cry ) I was telling someone in there backyard in the general area where he was originally raised about Mr Blue and down from the tree came Mr Blue!! He landed on my knee and was playing with my short strings (I had cut offs on at the time). I knew it was him because he lost a toe nail in a cage I had made him. He still remembered me after all that time! He took off finally, and I never saw him again. Maybe he just wanted to say thank you for rescuing him and say good bye one last time. So don't be surprised one day if your little bird comes back to say hello..

    I'm raising one now. I had found a baby bird early Tuesday morning at 6 AM. Almost two weeks of taking care of him. I think I'll cry when his ability to fly and leave me. When that time comes, I hope he will remember me. I name him Angel.

    I looked after a baby sparrow for 3days..But I knew deep down in my heart he had to go to a proper wild bird farm..I brought him back from near death and gave him a chance in life. I work to long hours to give him the attention he need..I cryed for hours when I had to say goodbye..
    But I'm glad I gave him love,warmth and care..Strange how something so beautiful can melt your heart and hurts to part with..I just rang the place he is cared for and they have informed me I done a great job and he is doing fine..Yes!!! Fly high beautiful..I love you.💞💞

    Adorable! We rescued a baby dove a couple of years ago. We thought he was a goner. He was ice cold to the touch, barely alive. I put him between my palms and kept him there until he started moving. Soon, he was making little whistling noises and trying to sit up. So, we kept him for about three weeks, until he was strong and had all of his feathers. Then we gave him to a wild bird sanctuary (very traumatic for us!). I loved the way he demanded food by rapidly batting his wings. After raising him, I noticed that behavior in wild birds who had fledged from their nest but were still following their parents around and demanding food. I also saw a female sparrow do that in order to coax a male to mate with her.

It follows me while I am in the garden or if I go for a walk. I leave water and some food outside now because the days are so hot. He really loves cherries 🍒 😊.

      Or Alice Wolman, and fend off all by himself? both parents teach their chicks how to survive in the wild, how to find food, how to spot predators, etc.
      Highly likely this bird didn't survive very long, of course they're exceptions. I would've kept it.

    • @OrAliceWolman
      @OrAliceWolman 7 років тому +1

      Still, I think it's wonderful that you let him go. It's the same as letting your own siblings go; they can crash in a car accident or in the Himalayas...but you have to let go. Thanks for sharing this

    • @maevaedwards
      @maevaedwards  7 років тому +8

      Or Alice Wolman. I think it was the best thing to do. I saw him a few times after he was freed for about a week. The European Green Finch lives for about 13 years. I was happy to give him a second chance.

    • @maevaedwards
      @maevaedwards  7 років тому +8

      Alvaro Quesada you are very negative. It's very sad to look at the world that way.... I felt I had to give this bird a second chance at life when I found him, and I did. These birds leave the nest at 14 days. Very young. Their parents only feed them and then they leave them on their own. They don't teach them about predators or how to get food. It's a natural instinct. They don't teach them how to fly either. Birdy knew how to fly all on its own.... I didn't teach him. He just knew. Alvaro, you have to see the positive in things and try to help when you can. I believe life gives you back what you give to others. And I'm a very happy person. Blessed to see how a little effort can change someone's life, or save a little creature and give it a second chance.
      Life can beautiful, but it's up to you to make it that way.

    • @dablaugntximntxub2318
      @dablaugntximntxub2318 6 років тому +3

      or wolman, no it's not good that she let him go..that poor birdy is dead , why do i say that because a captive bird growing up and fed by a human doesn't know how to forge for food on their own....biggest mistake a non bird expert would do..if you ever find a lost bird then decides to rescue it please,"DON"T EVER LET IT GO FREE LIKE THAT''...his chance of making in this world is ZER0....when they're with thier parents they were taught what's food and where to look , predictors etc...only inexperience person would say the thing you would say..go ask any bird rescue place if birds raised from a baby would make it in our world, when they have no clue where to find food?!

    I found a dove egg and it hatched in my hand! I’ve had him for 4 days now and he’s very crazy. I feed him water with crushed seeds but strained so it’s just seed water and cooked egg yolk. He loves it! On day 5/ when he opens his eyes I will mix in some small seeds with his formula and start making it thicker and adding more ingredients such as dog food crushed finely and crushed oatmeal. He’s doing good so far but it never stops me from worrying that one day he may not make it through the night.i hope he does good!

    I have rescued a baby Willow Warbler at the moment and I totally understand what you mean about how these dear little birds who trust you and grow in front of your eyes make such an impact on your life. My little bird is a fly eater so I have to train him to eat flies and I am doing this right now. I would not be surprised if he is near by when the season is right for him to be flocking in your neighborhood with his friends.
    We have different species of finches which fly in from Mexico and different places generally in the spring around March to April, depending on our weather here in Oregon. If it is too cold, they come late, if it is warm, they come early. It is a sign for us that spring has arrived.

    • @VlogGrrr
      @VlogGrrr 7 років тому +1

      Tahishaly Fontanez
      He should be reaching that point soon at about 6 weeks or so. Continue to feed him how you've been doing but start dropping some of his food on the floor right in front of him and let him peck at it for himself. Then pick it up and feed it to him. After a couple of days he'll actually peck at it and pick it up himself. Continue to feed him yourself but do this exercise as well and introduce a bowl of food in his cage.

    Good video....but when I got a little older, I need to know how often to feed baby bird throughout not just infant age. I rescued a baby boy Eastern Bluebird.

    I have always raised baby birds of all kinds and the formula I have found that works best having spoken to avian vets is dry cat food, and liquid calcium being the main two ingredients. Of course you soften the dry cat food in water, but never forget the liquid calcium. That is very important for all birds of all ages. Not saying what you are doing here is wrong. Just putting out what I did when I raised baby birds.

    Hola, en primer lugar quiero darle mi más sincera enhorabuena por haber conseguido sacar adelante a su pájaro, es un gesto inspirador y que le honra como persona.
    Hace una semana recogí de la calle un Verderón muy parecido a Birdy, calculo que tedría unos 10 o 15 días de vida, pero todavía no podía volar bien. Empecé a alimentarlo con pienso de cría de Agaporni y alimento para gatos, todo hecho una pasta mezclada con agua. Después de una semana, el pajarillo evoluciona favorablemente y le he incorporado yema de huevo y zanahoria (ambos cocidos) y se lo come que da gusto cada 2 o 3 horas. Ahora mismo tiene un aspecto muy parecido al de Birdy en el minuto 3 del vídeo. Lo he tenido todo el tiempo suelto en una habitación para que practique el vuelo y se fortalezca.
    En fin, el animal va estupendamente pero tengo algunas dudas que, como persona totalmente inexperta en la materia, me inquietan. La primera es en qué momento y cómo se le introduce la comida en forma de alpiste/semillas y el agua para que se vaya independizando, ya que mi intención es soltarlo cuanto antes pero con un mínimo de garantías de que pueda valerse por sí mismo.
    Mi segunda duda es si es necesario darle de comer a mitad de noche, como he escuchado en algún que otro vídeo. He probado en alguna ocasión a darle de comer de noche y el pájaro parece no estar muy interesado.
    En fin, gracias de antemano y un afectuoso saludo de otro amante de los pájaros!

    Thank you very much for helping the bird. But Im just wondering, is it wise to let go a home breeded bird to the wild? Will it know how to search for food as it was used to be fed? Will ig know to protect it self? Will it find a group of birds to live with?
    From what i see with cats brought up in homes with humans and abanded in streets, they still afraid of street and other cats, they cant compete with street cats to get food ,and they still stick on the houses doors and try to be with humans.
    Maybe birds are different? Just asking

    Please help, would this formula work for a baby mockingbird? I found him in the middle of a empty field and I'm not too sure about what they eat or how much should I feed him?
