Endless Space is a great 4X game.
X4 is a great Endless Space game.
Playing X4 is like dating an exotic dancer. It looks great and can be a lot of fun, but also takes a lot of patience since it's often frustrating and sometimes even downright abusive.

For anyone else looking for a great FTL like rogue space game, if you haven't heard of it. Shortest Trip to Earth is exceptionally well done.
Delta-V: Rings of Saturn is one of the best games I´ve ever played.
There´s another one that many people don´t know about and that is Scavenger SV-4. It is some kind of a spiritual successor of the game Koronis Rift on the 8bit machines of the eighties. As with Delta V it´s one of the best I´ve ever played and I´ve logged hundreds of hours in it. And even with all those hours I haven´t seen everything thing in it.
EDIT: Genesis: Alpha One is another fave of mine.
Seconding SV-4 too. It can be short, but it's a very interesting and unique title.
Genensis: Alpha One went a lot under the radar, but I enjoyed the scary cr^p out of it :-) It def get's a 9 on my list.

I just bought X4 on special, looking forward to trying it out.
Hopefully you're looking forward to being lost for a while too. The learning curve is steep but imo oh so worth it. Have around 300hrs in so far, still learning new mechanics even now haha

X4 is an amazing game. It has some depth that's for sure, I have over 400hrs and there are still things I haven't tried.
@@lordflashheart3680 I love X4, and have sunk hours upon hours in it. But I must admit I am a long time player of this series. I started back in 1999 with X-Beyond The Frontier, and have played every game in the series. Maybe strange for some people, but I also liked the "black sheep" in the series called X-Rebirth. Some people insist that X3 is the height of these series, but I think X4, with all the expansions, is the best one to date...
X4 players, what's your opinion on picking up the 4 DLCs as well? Do they integrate into the base game or are they separate things that can be picked up later?
Bought X4 as it was top of my wishlist and was waiting for a discount. Absolutely love just flying about taking on missions and relaxing.

I find the dives very calming, at least until pirates show up. Then I just jump back to base and sell my loot. :)

It has a small rough-light leveling system that has you unlocking starting bonus items for your next run.

Can only agree - when people ask me if they should get Elite Dangerous, X4 or Star Citizen my answer is always Evechron Legacy.

Banished Vault looks amazing and somehow never heard of it. Many 1000s of hours in X4 (and X3 (and X2)) I do recommend them if you like that sort of thing.

That Exo One looks like a neat concept. Not sure it's quite in my bailiwick, but what you've shown of Genesis Alpha One is interesting.
I like the moody visual style of The Banished Vault. Sounds like a very complicated board game, though!

I do not want to get involved with X4 because it will ruin my social life.
It is a huge time sink. Over the years I've found it a lot easier to walk away from but those initial 100s of hours figuring out the game are hard to give up.

Only if it grabs you. If tried it a docen times and cant get past the tutorial 😅😂😂. Now Im waiting for the next expansion since they say its going to be tailored for newbies. Well see
@@adamantiumreaver4283 It is a very steep learning curve. Just try to remember that your first time really shouldn't be your first long-term game. Try everything, watch some videos to get inspired. Look up the various ways to make money. Look up the plotlines and how they affect gameplay. You really can't spoil the game very much because the plotlines, about 1/2 of them, well they require a lot of trial and error and not accidentally missing them altogether.
A large part of the enjoyment of the game is learning the game, so make sure to do that part in a way that is fun for you.

I miss Space Engineers. I play it since more then 10 years and it is funny as like as the first day.
Genesis Alpha One is a cool little game. Its a lot of fun, but, its small in scope.
Really tied up since last night deciding if I get alpha one or the risk of rain 2 DLC been procrastinating for the past hour and a half
Genesis Alpha one is a underrated Gem. I don't play it that often, but it is one of the game I refuse to uninstall... even though I can just install it again.. its so good!
I would love to see a list of lesser known space MMOs. I have been playing Vendetta Online, casually, for over a decade, and would like to know what else is out there in a similar vein (reasonably accessible), but perhaps a bit 'bigger'.
▲V Rings of Saturn is a great game that plays very well on a Steam Deck. The only negative on the Deck is the smaller screen. It can make combat difficult because ships can be firing at you off screen. It is a great game that more people should try out.
I had a blast with the space game Star Valor, which is top down arcade space shooter. 60% off with the sale.
I started playing everspace 1 a week ago. It was pretty fun ngl.

Empyrion is a good endless space game as well that is fairly cheap. While probably not a "golden standard" it is a great game.
I love Stellaris but it should be said: While the base game might be cheap right now, take a look at how much DLC it has before you decide. Some of the DLC adds what I consider to be essential gameplay, and they've rarely sold it at much of a discount. The current sale might be the cheapest I've seen some of them, but that's not me telling you to buy everything now

A lot of good choices except I feel for Genesis Alpha One. Game is "finished" but yet feels unfinished. It was developed by a group called Radiation Blue and published by Team 17. Sadly however the game is not being patched or worked on at all so any bugs you get you're SOL. There's been no updates or changes since 2020 and doubtful it'll ever see any update as it doesn't look like Radiation Blue even operate anymore as GAO is their only title.
To be honest GAO was the only title which had me a bit excited, but that there's no future to be had in it is rather sad :(
@@MistedMindkeep in mind it's been out for years now I own it. It's kinda janky and graphicly feels kinda like an asset flip. However it is very fun it's not for everyone but i recommend it on sale the gameplay is deeper than it seems at first.
First second of the footage I knew it wasn't gonna be great. Got that "stock Unreal" look to it.
Sure some games can be great, but most with that look are from amateur devs learning programming who don't know how to utilize the engine and it drags the entire experience down.
I like GAO very much.
@@AceStrife so what that doesn't stop the concept from being good and the actual gameplay is sound. With indie amateur studios of course the visuals will be lacking as that's really hard time consuming and expensive.
Delta V (Rings of Saturn) is one of my favorite hidden gems. Extremely fun, very relaxing and oftentimes both harrowing and hilarious. Absolutely worth it.

You totally forgot "Stationeers". Its amazing
I don't know about anyone else, but I found Exo One somewhat creepy on some planets. It really induced some strange emotions leaning towards the anxiety / fear side of the spectrum. The planet that was a giant ocean world was probably the worst for me.
I have no fear of water, I'm often going out boating / fishing as I live on the coast. Something about that world a few after it got the emotions going.
Genesis Alpha One was decent but I could never shake the feeling of how I felt a bit more budget and time would have made it incredible.

Just got that Exo One for about £4 on your recommendation and tbh it's more like a tech demo than a game but fuck me if that's not one of the best gaming experiences I've had this year so far (Disclaimer: I smoked a pretty fat joint before playing so that may or may not have influenced my opinion)
Think im going to reinstall ksp1 , i never really got far and ksp 2 bought on a bit of a whim as i was loving ksp1 . Am guessing thats more complete
I hated Everspace 1. It took forever to reach the end.... then you get sent back to the beginning and have to start all over again. You don't get much of a boost at the beginning for all your hard work. Maybe I just don't understand Roguelikes, but Everspace 2 is way more my jam, as you progress you don't have to worry about losing everything, you feel like you're actually getting stronger and making headway
I love x4 but i found it a very steep learning curve. So much so i spent more time watching guides than i did playing it. Pronlem with it aswell is i find everytime i take a break from it, the learning curve makes me have to learn the game every time.

nice presentation, and short reviews to give us an idea... sadly, none of those sparkle my interest... when you are a long-time hardcore gamer and passed through Eve Online, Elite Dangerous, No Man's Sky, Space Engineers, and such, it's hard not to compare the concept of "space game" with what comes out of those indie studios...

Genesis Alpha One is a great half-game. But it gets *VERY* samey very fast. It's an excellent idea, a great proof-of-concept, but there's just not enough game there to me. =-\ I'm glad I got it for free, but I certainly wouldn't suggest anyone pay more than like $5 for it. Especially given the EGS exclusivity.
Should of put up SC on that list. With its now Arcade like added updated changes.

Surprised nobody mentions Underspace and Between the Stars.
I love and hate X4. Love for what it is, hate because I need at least a few hours per session. It's impossible to "have a quick one". And if RL kept you away from long played save, you need some time to remember which factory is building what and why are those 10 L transports idling next to PHQ.
Hmmm… interesting. Of these games X4 is my pick. Only gripe I have with x4 is the universe isn’t procedurally generated and the mining AI is kind of dumb, both of which I hope they can fix soon, or maybe it’s just me.
From my research, the AI in that game is god awful from top to bottom and always has been lol
I don’t think they’ve even commented on it probably knowing there is nothing they can do about it
mining is fine. different items need different amounts. only complaints are from people who want 1 miner to fill up a Wharf building 10 ships at a time. smh. just cause you don't like it, doesn't mean it's broken.
X4 is not a cheap game if you want the true experience.
Stardeus I don’t think it’s pronounced like Star Jews (or Juice or whatever it was you were saying) more like Star Day Oose (think goose without the G at the start). Deus is Latin for God or Deity.
I picked up Battlestar Galactica and a couple of DLC's for next to nothing...
Stellaris is good game...but the DLC policy for that studio is kinda disgusting.

Genesis alpha one looks lovely but its systems do not come together for me, it feels like bulk of the content is simply not there (i played about 7ish hours) its focus seems to be on restrictive farming so taking worst parts of NMS and slapping on restrictions. no hard counters for various things are avalable and some of the cleaning of ship infestation i do not comprehend (sometimes the "undergroth" lets call it can not be killed no matter what i shoot it with.
If GA1 could be taken as basis or platform to work off of i think it would have potential to become magnifficent in hands of people dedicated to space games but alas... it is in its sorry state apparently since it initially released and barely any changes were made if any at all.
Man i want to know how to mod games purely so that i can fix this one... the aesthetic looks so compelling and problems relatively simple to fix.
I also wonder if endless sky would qualify it plays fun it seems very nippy and dose appear to have depth, here i only spent mere 4 hours ingame so i my be anticipating too much from its content tho.

Everspace 2 looks amazing. It's exactly what I've been looking for in a space game for a long time. An almost Freelancer style game but with a little more RPG depth
@@TamaHawkLive Everspace 2 is very story based, but open world. You have a storyline of missions, and then lots of side missions you can get to complete, and plenty of time to go wherever you want inbetween. It's a gorgeous game with fantastic space combat.
All that said, I don't really think it's like Freelancer. But it's still good!

The longer you leave the game, the more DLC's are added. This makes the subscription actually worth it, especially considering that the DLC prices have increased over time. Dedicate a month to play Stellaris again, get the subscription play the hell out of it that month. Unsubscribe, repeat in 12 to 18 months for even better value.
@@zerocontent6890 Subscription is certainly an option but I don't want to give publishers any ideas about shifting the whole industry more into the direction of subscriptions.
Stellaris is not cheap game. Now with subscription. Paradox greed and money drawing with dozens of DLC endless like a space.
I tried everspace a while back because it claimed to support VR but it had the worst implementation of VR I've ever seen so I quickly refunded it
