In this video, I show you how to use google meet, by taking you through all the great features and new updates. I also show you how to join and host a meeting using this now FREE video conferencing tool by Google.
This week the video conferencing tool Google Meet became completely free and accessible for everyone. Due to the current global situation, Google has decided to make Google Meet and many of its features free to every user, all you need is a Gmail account.
Before this Google Meet update, you could join a meeting with a Gmail account although, you did not have the ability to host a meeting through Google Meet and other features were limited. Initially, you required a G Suite account to access all the features and have the ability to host meetings.
However, now you can join and host a meeting with Google Meet directly from your free Gmail account. This is exciting news for everyone from individuals, small businesses to large corporates.
Google Meet is a video conferencing software initially design for corporates, however, it is now a great alternative to other video conferencing tools like Skype and Zoom.

@@StewartGauld The only slight caveat I would make is, watch out for 1 October 2020. We may have built in dependence on Google Meet into our collaboration only to find it's expensive to carry on once the free period ends on 30 September 2020. I have a horrible feeling we'll all get good at using Google Meet and come to rely on it only to find ourselves casting around again, trying to find something affordable once the free period is up.

Thanks Stewart. Google Meet is very limited for my purposes. It was great that you pointed out a working meeting so that the viewer could decide if it suits their needs. I have just renewed my Zoom Pro account so I’ll stay with that atm. Thanks for making this very informative, the software can only get better. I’ll be sure to check it out again when my Zoom account expires. 👍

Yes, they sure can. They have the same options to present as the host. Just allow the participant to screen share or start speaking.

Hi, does it allow for break out rooms like zoom. I'm a university lecturer and need to find a platform that allows three hour sessions for large groups with break out rooms option. Thank you

Unfortunately, Google Meet does not have this function. I would recommend ZOOM for creating break out rooms.

I tried using the Google Meet but I had tons of complaints about the terrible audio, it is not so clear compare to the Zoom. Do you have any suggestions on the breaking up audio? TIA

This was a great help. I am going to be using this to teach English as a second language. I want to know what kind of light are you using. When I start the meeting, the room looks so dark it is hard to make out faces. Do you use one of the round lights that you buy from Amazon?
Glad it was helpful! That i correct Susan, or you can use natural light. However, a ring light will be your best bet.
