  • Chapter 8: In this episode, we unfold the pillars of quantum mechanics-from superposition to wave-particle duality-and continue our ongoing inquiry into the physical self. So, don the headphones, lay back, and take that pause in the crazy while I meander through some of the many timeless riddles that have plagued humanity since we first looked up at the stars.

    Cool stuff, thanks as always.
Sounds like a job for E prime.
Looking forward to the visualization, maybe my poor cerebellum will be more able to wrap itself around the concept.

Yeah, I’ve only ever seen this “boxes” thought experiment in written form, so it’s pretty cool to have the animation ready to go 👌 (but, what’s E prime 😬)

@@InfiniteNow_withSeanCrowley E-Prime (short for English-Prime or English Prime,[1] sometimes É or E′) denotes a restricted form of English in which authors avoid all forms of the verb to be.
      E-Prime excludes forms such as be, being, been, present tense forms (am, is, are), past tense forms (was, were) along with their negative contractions (isn't, aren't, wasn't, weren't), and nonstandard contractions such as ain't. E-Prime also excludes contractions such as I'm, we're, you're, he's, she's, it's, they're, there's, here's, where's, when's, why's, how's, who's, what's, and that's.
Some scholars claim that E-Prime can clarify thinking and strengthen writing,[2] while others doubt its utility.[3]
So substitute appears to be a particle under such condition vs. is a particle. Sorry if that's an insufficient explanation I'm working on my phone right now in the above is obviously cut and paste from Wikipedia.

@@fhoniemcphonsen8987 Ah yeah, I get it. I did a quick google before I asked the question and wondered if that's what you meant. Sounds like far more of an analytical approach. I'm assuming it would be suited to an argument of absolutes - but where is the poetry in that 🤓
Kinda reminds me of analytic vs. continental philosopher memes.
Analytic: "You're being insufficiently clear!" Continental: "You're being insufficiently."

You have a gift for describing extremely hard to understand subjects in both a concise yet flourishing turn of phrase, which in itself could be a quantum paradox :)

Infinity has terrified and effected my life more than anything else. When I was 9, I had Pneumonia. At the peak of the fever, a giant metallic sphere came into my room, growing larger and larger. When I clutched my bedsheet, the mattress was there and I could see into the fiber weaves, going fast into infinitely small, when I looked away form that the sphere was infinitely larger, there was no escape. I curled up in the corner with my eyes closed for hours.

That sounds truely awesome (in the literal sense). How do you find you relate to infinity nowadays?

@@InfiniteNow_withSeanCrowley I try to maintain balance where I am located, knowing too far in one way or another is beyond my evolutional structure and function. It's fun to think about but amoeba's don't need to fully understand the rules of basketball to have a better life.

Where do you start with something that has no beginning and has no ending? Are we moving thru infinity or is infinity running thru us?
Personally, I stay away from conclusions drawn in experiments I can’t reproduce myself(IE, double slit experiment)…
To do so would be to trust confirmed liars…

I think that’s a great question… however, in either case, I would still like to know when separates us from the infinite. Because if it is infinite, could not both answers be right? And if so, aren’t then we just another manifestation of this infinite?
Re your second comment, however, you can try these experiments! As I say in the episode, there is a simple version you could do yourself using 3 pairs of polarised sunglasses. Also, I’m not sure your scepticism is rightly placed, because experiments like the double slit are done by students and be educators in public all the time. Further, what the experiment highlights is that we can’t always trust our own intuitive interpretations. You say you can’t trust it… it says, don’t trust your own senses. Though it doesn’t proclaim much more than that, and physicists are fairly clear about how open this problem still is. But always happy to be shown otherwise 👍 thanks for your thought!!
