Their topics in the school era were actually very impactful. Socioeconomic struggles, class divides, mental health issues, cyber bullying and haters, and the pressures on students that make SKorea have the highest suicide rate in the 10-19 age range in the world, to name a few, all packaged in hard hitting hip hop and smooth R&B.

@@wundertam On the contrary, it's a heavy topic in South Korea (heavy and not talked about openly). There are documentaries about it (SK education system) in YT if you want to check the status of things before delving into their school trilogy lyrics ^^
They even have a pre-debut song called "Vote" encouraging people turning 18 to exercise their right to vote.

No, they were fierce and hungry (like also literally, because they were broke. Lol) and had a lot to say, strongly, when they started. They were 15-20 in age range at their debut in 2013. They took a lot of heat from those in power for it. It was a time of cultural and government suppression of speech and artists and they were firmly rooted in the socially conscious and defiant Hip Hop spirit and writing their own music right from the jump, both very unusual in their industry. They were underdogs and misfits in the industry in every sense.

Since they were writing autobiographically and self referentially, they also wrote about their experiences as industry underdogs and targets of a lot of hate, and of course some about young love, the confusion of growing up and learning who you are and what you want and how to talk to girls, etc.
Their songs even about heavy topics often come packaged in fun sounding bops or seeming party anthems. Of course they also have some songs that are just for fun too. They have hundreds of songs. Their catalog is deep. 20 albums as a group, ten among various members as solo artists, and many collabs, singles, OSTs and covers.

@@wundertamno, their school era I would say was very difficult to pull off. I mean, in a way their music was rebellious so of course citizens do not want BTS' music to be aired.
They also criticized the government, the older generation, the harsh education system...
And what's crazy is that they weren't that famous at that time so they don't have much power. And their government could actually blacklist them because they blacklisted a lot of artists that are against them. They could literally be cancelled anytime at that time. But them not casually risking their careers to speak out is not BTS.
I would say BTS had balls even back then hahhahaha. Live on television, them singing about the corrupt politicians.
But now, no one could literally cancel BTS, they are too big and beyond Korea's power, due to their international influence.
I mean, they have diplomatic passports now and are announced as President Envoys. Because they bring a lot of money to their economy.
It's cute, they're a boyband basically who had spoken at the white house and United Nations general assembly, the rest of the guests there was presidents and prime ministers.

in fact, J-Hope is the “sunniest” member 😅. But in the most recent solo work he released (the album jack in the box) he decided to show another side of him that fans didn't know yet, so the sound is heavier and the aesthetic is darker compared to his previous solo works, both works are equally good

27:01 the femininity in Boy with Luv is actually a callback to their "macho persona" on their old song Boy in luv
Plus, I feel like this look was also a strong statement to the western public that view them as "too girly"
They're not trying to be digestable to the korean public, they are reflecting on their old view on love and masculinity

I'd say that Suga (AgustD) is the darkest of them all and J-Hope is the brightest. Also RM is very dark too. But the thing is they are not one dimensional, so Suga's (AgustD) solo work is moody, depressive and aggressive af, but then BOOM and you have a bunch of hopefull, reassuring, warm and gentle songs from him. And there we have J-Hope with his bright and sunny personality and funky beats, but you read the lyrics to his songs and holy f*ck, dude, do you need help, do you want a hug? And then this sunshine releases dark album with a lot of rock vibes, but the lyrics are hopeful and kinda optimistic. And RM is very moody and clever, so his work is multidimensional too, bringing out a lot of different emotions in you.
Vocalists are a little different story. Most of the time they are not the ones who write and produce their solo music, so this is not always their direct expressions of themselves, but they are the ones to choose what song they want to take to themselves. And because they all have very different tastes in music, each of their styles are very distinctive from others. Like JK loves pop music (also he was kinda rock fan in his teens, lol, we have video of him vibing to Linkin Park song Given Up), V loves jazz, blues and R'nB, Jimin and Jin do mix of different genres, but still very recognisible.
PS. I am metalhead too, but BTS very quickly became my favourite artists.

@@NanciBK ah, yes, you are right. I didn't have a chance to look into V's Layover credits yet, so I didn't really knew what part in production and songwriting he took, so I happy to learn that he had a big part in it's creation. I know that Jimin is songwriter and producer of Face. But still it's like the first really big projects for them to work on individually and have a chance to shine with their own styles to full extent. I hope it's a start for them as solo artists (while being in BTS of course). I'd really want to JK be a part of production and songwriting team for his mini-album, but recent talks make me doubt it and I really hope that these rumors are wrong. We'll see. I also not sure if Jin truly found his sound and style yet. So I am very excited for his future album after he finishes his duty to see what it will contain.

1 member, yoongi (suga) has struggled with various mental health issues since childhood & writes about it. Mental health isnt really taken seriously in Korea, so rathar than being the perfect time, it was a rather taboo topic in their home country. Tho the time frame is right for when overall mental health was being more talked about elsewhere.
As others have said, their early albums were just as deep and meaningful and actually important as they are today, including the school trilogy. They came out the gate swinging. Even the meaning that BTS & ARMY stand for are deep. Like not the literal translations but the figurative meaning. 💜

  • @ralphy383
    @ralphy383 9 місяців тому +19

You can't underestimate the School trilogy.
BTSs debut song was a rebellious anthem. Of course, there are more love songs during that era too but still they spoke about their experiences a lot.
Every era of bts means something personal to the members.
I would say NEVER listen to just individual bts songs.
    ALWAYS check out ALBUMS.
It's always my first advice while getting into bts. ALWAYS ALBUMS ... because their albums are sometimes structured as narratives.
For example the wings album from 2016 which was based on demian by Hermann Hesse has themes of temptation and pains of growing up.
In 2018 they completed the love Yourself albums which consists of 3 different albums called Her, Tear and Answer. It's supposed to be a storyline of 1. A person falling in love 2. Changing themselves for their lover and loosing themselves and then 3. Realising they need self love.
This runs in parallel to bts's career back in those 2 years.
They experienced a boost in there fame in 2017 with LY Her album and bts really enjoyed American attention that era.
Then the next year, during during the production of LY Tear was one of the the most harshest period in their careers, they questioned whether they even like music cus they overworked themselves due to pressure from the fame they gained with the LY Her album. The story of the lover hiding his real self runs in parallel to bts's mental states at the time... they almost disbanded before they released the LY Tear album.
Then with the LY Answer album, they resigned their contracts again and decided to heal and ask themselves why they chose music. The answer album's title track is Idol which is a song about taking pride in themselves and their origins and culture.
So like this, every bts album is inevitably based on bts own career experiences.
They usually use a lot of metaphors to make these experiences more universally understood. But their honesty and sincerely always comes across.
One of my favorite songs is Outro tear, which is written and performed by the 3 rappers. When it came out as part of the LY Tear album in 2018, people assumed it was about the fictional lover of the 3 Albums breaking up with their partner because of the mask they had to wear to love the other (the original 3 part storyline). The songs lyrics are extremely heart-wrenching and violent at some parts. We fans joked to each other asking who hurt the bts members and laughed.
It wasnt until 2 years later that it was revealed in a documentary that the song was written towards the members of bts in 2018, when they were considering disbanding due to exhaustion. It came as a shock to fans, the song is extremely difficult to listen to now, knowing what it is about and how real the feelings portrayed in the song was.
So like this, a majority of bts songs are inspired by bts own experience with their careers and their life.

    • @rafaelsmith5737
      @rafaelsmith5737 8 місяців тому

You're so right when you say never check their songs individually
Cause more often than not, the songs are just pieces of a puzzle and you can't really appreciate the piece without the complete puzzle and see the whole picture.
And sometimes, their albums is also piece of a puzzle too.

Jhope is usually one of the more cheerful members... his solo songs before releasing his album last year were more vibrant and colorful songs so to speak, although you could definitely see the message about self-discovery and self-acceptance. In his most recent work he surprised us with a slightly darker side with Arson and More and we loved it... showing that he likes to try new things on his music. I think the song before their album with the "least positive" lyrics was "Intro: Boy meets evil" from the album Wings by BTS. Jhope's rap style is very distinctive and I think he is the one that most applies "sung rap" and sometimes it seems to me like it has reggae influences, but it is a personal opinion. Although the songs "Arson" and "More" have more of a rock vibe.
RM is the main song writer of BTS although the 3 rappers actively participate, and for some songs also the members of the vocal line. RM is more poetic in his writing and is very reflective. At his beginnings, on his mixtapes he tried to prove to the rappers of the underground scene where he came from that he was still a rapper (they questioned and minimized him for "becoming an Idol" of Kpop) and he also has several songs towards haters and social themes... and you will also find songs about reflections on everyday life and self knowledge. I'm not much into rap but I enjoy BTS's rap because it's more dynamic to me, it doesn't always sound the same and I'm also drawn to the songs they play. So far the album that I particularly liked the most of BTS's solo works has been "Indigo" by RM wich surprised me becaused I'm not into Rapa as I said before... but in general the 3 rappers have a level of musical quality that cannot be denied. From him I recommend "Wild Flower", "Still life" (from the album Indigo) "Intro: Persona" from the album Map of the Soul.
Suga aka Agust D is the rapper who touches on the most themes of depression and anxiety... he has a more confrontational and gloomy style. He also comes from the underground rap scene and was criticized and belittled by his fellow rappers just like RM, so in his mixtapes before his album "D-Day" he also sought to prove to his haters that he was a real rapper and he responds to them through his songs.
In real life, the members of BTS are peaceful, not confrontational, they are very noble men, but also in Korea there is a lot of respect for elders... hierarchies are well respected, so even if they were snubbed frontally, they maintained composure and diplomacy, but they respond on their songs as soloists and in the subunit that the rappers have where the trio expresses their feelings and thoughts about the haters in a very intelligent way and without naming anyone specifically. From Suga I suggest his trilogy of videos "Daewchita", "Haegeum" and "Amygdala" but I also like "Interlude: Shadow", "People", "People pt2 ft IU",

thank you for reacting to this video! i was just as skeptical as you when i first got into bts, but after watching hours and hours of their content or content about them and their message and following the armys discussions on social media, i quickly understood that bts are very sincere artists and thats when i became army. theyre not trying to ride the wave, they only speak about what theyre going thru or whats on their minds. and we can verify that because they documented in various ways so much of their journey, starting from their pre-debut days. after i watched the rise of bangtan serie (fanmade), things became even clearer to me, when i linked it to their lyrics from every era. army grew thanks to their message, be it lyrics, their behavior and personalities or even their strong bond. without those, they would have most likely failed in the end, as their company was very small and bts were basically their best shot at the time. and army helped them survive in the world of kpop, at first, and now worldwide. im always shocked at the many levels of depth bts' music can have. also, their live performances are the best, their energy is crazy, they love being on stage and performing for army the most. and also, i like the fact that they have "happy" songs or songs that dont hold very personal or serious meanings attached to them (not that theyre not as good), cuz we also need those. bts made me understand that. also, j-hope slayed so hard at lollapalooza, performing for a crowd of 105k. take your time on this journey 💜

Jhope is nothing but dark. He is literal sunshine. He is very fluid when he comes to his music. He can go from happy go children's songs to ear blasting metal music. Suga also other member of BTS who is a rapper goes by AGUSTD which his alter ego. Maybe you could call that his dark side . But like i said, suga also composes different types of music as well as RM , another rapper could do both easily . Rapline, vocaline, and BTS themselves are very versatile as soloists and as a group. Their identity is not K-pop persona , they are way ahead of that. Its just themselves, the music, the costumes, the message they give at certain time lines, everything are just too personal, not because of the trend or impressing a certain set of the audience. If not, i don't think they would be able to attract millions of different audience all over the world, including rock fans. They are so much universal in terms of music. Also, about the Army, just yesterday, BTS has donated 1 billion won to UNICEF in the name of their fandom ARMY, and ARMYS are trying to match the donations. BTS has never said to do social welfare or donations or movements. They only convey their message through their music and their actions, and they are artists who are a good influence for Armys and society as well. They are so many more things about BTS that sets apart from K-pop groups and also many Western artirsts in general weather its music or fandom culture.

"BTS: More Than K-Pop" by bby gang mag is a great video to understand this aspect of BTS better. Some things may go over your head towards the end due to being very new to this kpop world, but I think there's a lot you can take away from it even if you don't do a reaction to it and just watch it on your own time.

I'm not saying they started the androgynous look but, they was definely one of the front liner of the halyu until it became the norm in Korea, so they were in the frontline of hate, they used to be ridiculed for looking like girls, in my country i guess one of the reason for the hate train of BTS is apparently they look gay.
Male kpop idols normally look manly back then, but thanks to BTS, other male groups in kpop are not that afraid to look feminine anymore because BTS is so popular. So they basically was the fore front of the change, i would say the halyu was on 2015-2016.

Feminine side in this video wasen't about beauty standarts, yes Korea has very high beauty standart, and actually most members in BTS dosen't fit this standarts, Jin has classic beauty that is in high regart in korea. Hmm she was talkin about feminine side in person, next to persona, ego, shadow, and it is about Carl Jung concept of "I", bc this is what they refered in this album (Map of the soul) and Jung thought that every person has feminin part and manly part inside, every man has some women inside and every women had a little of man inside, that is why spectrum of personalities is so wide bc they are fir example very femine women but they are also tomboy women, the same with man... That is what she was trying to said that pink and all softness in this song was for showing that side, too.
I won't write about school bc a lot of comments said a lot about it, you mostly talked this part over in video so I don't know how mych you catch.
I think it is also a lot about cultural difference I don't know from were are you from but bc you remember 2015 or 2016 as years that a lot of mental health topic were discussed then great but not all the world was like that. And of course like you said in media there maybe was a lot of talk but talk and action are two different thing, not to say if talk is only in one launguage (english) then there is not real talk bc most of the world speak in theirs own launguage, and don't even know english. I hope that you understand what I try to say. In my coutry is saying that I don't know if it translates good to english but "your perspective is from the place you ate siting" in short people only see what is around were they sit... So yeah
Going back to topic big cultural aspect about Korea is that that mental heath was joke then and it got better but it still is something that people don't want to talk or are ashame of, it is like stigma most if the times. And there us not that much profesional help.
I know kpop bands but I don't listen to any, only BTS, bc you simply feel them, and rest bands hmm some songs may be fun and good to play but that is all for me I don't feel any connection, bc when you get to know BTS you get from tgem so much more then simple artist - fan realation, so yeah sometimes I play some songs that catch my ear but It dosen't make me a fan bc it is simple cusual exoerience, nothing more.
So yeah, BTS said - if you listen to our music you will like it. So you have to go with open heart and without sterotypes to their stuff.
And of course you can not like then and that is ok too....

being feminine to suit korea beauty standart? no. it's not how they try to fit korea beauty standart it is about how they try to break stereotypes the world has for a man. they talk about toxic masculinity, how the world labelling man with such things, man shouldn't cry man cant be affectionate and affiliating color with such gender. they portray that with dressing in pink glamorous outfit in the music video, as we know pink is affiliated with woman, that's why she say in the video that they portray social commentary into complementing their psychological "Persona" album

male k-pop idols aren't the korean standard for masculinity and are often criticized and mocked for it. BTS themselves were both mocked for being "too feminine" while the looks of a few members were very badly hated on for not fitting korean beauty standards. Whatever assumptions you have, it's always best to cast them aside when it comes to BTS. As you get to know them and learn about them, I think you'll see why. They truly broke the mold. thanks for reacting, love boracity videos. Looking forward to your journey.

You have no idea how committed these guys are to their crafts and performances.
They would even have mental breakdowns and cry whenever they get injured and were advised to just sit during the performances. They love performing so much..
In numerous occasions, Jimin's knee are seen bruised or bleeding during their performances due to his dancing.
    There was one time,
There was an interview about a host, and he said before BTS performed he fell down at the back of the stage and landed on Jungkook, basically Jungkook saved him but Jungkook still performed after that. After ARMYs found about that interview they searched that clip of the particular performance nothing seemed odd during a performance it was still as explosive as it usually was but ARMYs noticed Jungkook's subtle change in complexion whenever he had to full swing his shoulders. So it was only then when ARMYs knew that Jungkook was in pain during that performance, they are really good at hiding it for the performance.
But the one with SUGA was the craziest, he actually had an accident during their early debut days because he was part timing as a delivery boy, and he broke and injured his shoulder but nobody knew about cuz he didn't tell anyone because he was afraid he'll be kicked out of the company. Reminder, most of the BTS members and the company was really poor, it was an 'all or nothing' bet on BTS, we're so glad it turned out great.
But anyways, Suga's shoulder injury was so severe and he hid it for so long that he finally had a surgery during the pandemic, yes, it was about 4-5years later the accident.
After ARMYs found out about it, they rewatched clips of SUGA closing his eyes everytime something hit his shoulder. It crazy how that went unnoticed for years.
And you would definitely see a lot of times they performed with a bondage on their fingers or whole arms.

Basically every group that debuts under the big 3 has a secure future. All most successful groups except BTS is part of the Big 3, including 2NE1, BigBang, Twice, EXO, Black pink, etc.
No groups outside of the Big 3 has ever won a grand prize nor has become successful but that was until BTS and ARMY challenged the system and found its own way to succeed.
BTS is an anomaly, the most normal way to succeed was to get into a big label and do a lot of promotions, that way groups will earn fans through media exposure.
But BTS has the fans but no media exposure. Their success story is the total opposite, the company was broke so it was the fans that promoted them, they would post about them, they would translate their contents so that international audience would see them, thanks to that, it was the international fans that made them famous. Yes, quite the opposite of what we thought happened, it's actually the other way around, they aren't the most famous and successful group in South Korea that's why they became known internationally, but they became famous internationally first and then became famous in South Korea for being famous internationally, but they don't know BTS at all, they also just assumed that they were part of the BiG 3 that's why they're famous.

27:03 in this era, bts album was based on jung’s psychological theory. in jungian psychology, the persona refers to the social mask or role that an individual presents to the outside world. it’s the aspect of our personality that we show to others, often influenced by societal expectations and norms. so when she said persona she was referring to this concept, not the colloquial meaning of persona. so this feminine & glamorous aesthetic was purposeful but for the concept they were going for, not to be more digestible. also bc it’s not something they continue, they change to a darker aesthetic in the next comeback.

you are right about the feminine look. it is about the korean culture but what happened after BTS overtook the western was that many people started to look at asian people diffrently.
before asian men was considered the most unattractive men in the world by statistic. but is now ranking way higher. many tanks BTS for making that change.
but they didn´t actually do anything. i mean they just do what others in korea are doing regarding looks. but their lyrics is what made us look behind the facade and look at the people.
in their lyrics they talked about things they find needed to be talked about. not aiming to change peoples life but was amazed by the fact that it did.
and they have been given the highest honor in korea for bringing so much attention to korea through their music. other groups will never get that award because they don´t write their own lyrics. and they dont care they only want to look pretty and dance on stage. making menaingfull songs people could relate to is not something kpop groups do. it´s all about money for the company who made them. so BTS is so unique and the goverment noticed that. and they also spoke at the UN about social issues. also other social artist like Coldplay noticed that and made a song with them

Yet, BTS still did it anyways .... cause they are not afraid to stand up for what's right.
If you think writing such song that criticize someone in power that treats South Korean Citizens as dogs and pigs is bold enough, BTS even did an extra mile to perform it in LIVE TELEVISION.
They aren't just bold, they are very BOLD.
They even used the Minister's words and put it their lyric and even do a choreography about it.
If it was any artist, the easiest thing to do in that situation was to stay silent, yet BTS did the exact opposite.
What's more interesting BTS wasn't even quite big back then yet they don't give a f who they offend.
And it isn't the first and only BTS song that they've done this, some of their MV for example are very secretively rebellious and has lots of symbolisms so it won't be understand by just anyone unless you're a fan who really bother to understand the deeper meaning behind it.

@@wundertam 27:30 I don't think you actually understand South Korea's Beauty standard at all.
In western P.O.V. the Men in SK are viewed or stereotyped as Feminine, but in SK's standard that's the normal "men", so any less masculine or more feminine than that is heavily criticized.
Take Jimin for example. You've reacted to Dynamite and said he looks like a girl, and you just think it's normal for them cause it's South Korea's standards of men.
But Jimin has always been criticized for being too feminine and too girly because of his voice and the way he moves, basically he's not included in the standard.
Western ppl thinks men in SK are feminine, but Men in South Korea don't think they're feminine but thinks male idols are quite feminine, but male idols who wears make-up don't think they're feminine but thinks BTS are soft, delicate and feminine.
In Asia, back then BTS are considered very feminine, cause if you compare them to other male Kpop groups who also wears make-up for manly aesthetics, BTS Wings ERA was void of those toxic manly traits and even has bold feminine aesthetics, which is quite "new" in Kpop, so pretty much in Asia, BTS was the only group that recieves a LOT OF HATE for being "Feminine".
Back then, hating BTS for being Feminine was a very popular trend amongst Asian Countries.
They'd even call them "gay" or "girls" to degrade them even more.
But since BTS didn't really care how they were negatively percieved as men and continued being "soft" in their LY Era.
They garnered even more fans cause of how bold and unique they are, for them BTS are actually the one's being truly "manly" cause they're not afraid to be criticized or follow the social norms men are expected to follow.
So just like that, BTS had normalized the viewed "feminine" as the new standard in SK in Asia.
So when they released Boy with Luv with very pink and soft Femininely aesthetics, there was no longer any violent reactions cause it was gradually becoming a norm, which was started by them and a lot of Kpop had followed along.
In this Era, being too "soft" as a man is no longer quite looked down upon, even crying in public and being openly scared is now more accepted, even male idols wearing pink and skirts are now viewed as "cool".
BTS popularized that, also to tell you honestly, in Asia, men don't actually wear makeup cause they don't want to be seen as feminine, but in entertainment industry especially in SK, men wearing make-up is to be expected to look more presentable not to look "feminine", but since BTS is very popular worldwide, most people think South Korean men are like that and since people love to put everything in box and assume all Asia Countries are like South Korea, China, and Japan.
Now, Asian men are stereotyped as less manly and feminine.

I have to leave a comment about mental health. BTS have been writing about the topic since before their debut because South Korea has one of the highest student age suicide rates in the world. They wanted to speak for their generation and that included both "teenage hormonal" lyrics as well as valid socioeconomic criticisms against adults that contained the stories of their peers - at the time, Korean students barely slept, attended multiple academies until late at night, had to effectively compete with their friends to be the best studying machines which isolated them emotionally. This created a hostile environment of survival of the fittest, with bullying or failing tests frequently costing lives. By the time they started more directly addressing depression, not just in relation to school, they were already known as the socially conscious idol group who write their own lyrics and speak for their generation - something their CEO was actually made fun of for because people didn't understand how that would be marketable.
I get the reference to the romanticization of mental health and definitely a lot of Tumblerinas at the time jumped on the bandwagon due that but I'd argue, for that crowd, the usual "unrequited love / heartbreak" pop music appealed more and BTS attracted those who were genuinely struggling because it wasn't just sad music, it referenced real emotions.
They have always done things that would have gutted acts from large corporations. I personally found them through a tweet by Namjoon that showed support for LGBTQ+ people in 2013 - note that in Korea, you could still lose your job for being gay at the time & celebrities avoided the topic. BTS & their CEO openly supported LGBTQ+ folks & have been encouraging gender fluidity. And tbh the mere fact they were allowed to be active on Twitter was unheard of until BTS since idols had their phones confiscated by management & they had to get permission from managers. BTS had near complete freedom since their company was broke and had no brand the guys could tarnish. They were also allowed to be stupid or "problematic" because they were young and growth comes from mistakes.

What I’ve found for a lot of their songs (other than the English trio) is that the more it’s a bop, the more likely that it’s social commentary. Go Go from the video is a really good example of this. You listen to a song like that and chair dance and then you read the lyrics and/or watch an explanation video and say OHHHHHHHH WHOA. Their choreography ties into it too, which is pretty amazing.

Yes, the fashion and styling was peak 2010's, but they're literally talking to a generation of kids who are under such intense pressure and have no room for their own dreams and they're telling them to stand up and fight for what they want, not what their parents or adults want. They're telling them that there's more to life than school and grades and university and really advocating for the mental well being of young people.

I know you are young but look at 80's music men weren't afraid to show their more feminine e side and weaing clothes with lace and bows make up and what would be considered feminine hair style's that was based on Previous 18century dress. It was the Romantic era this all came about before Kpop was even invented.

I LOVE boracity's videos. But there is a small bit of carelessnesses in pretty much all of them - mostly concerning other artists.
But in this case it is "GoGo".
Can you interpret it like that from a Western viewpoint? Sure!
The problem is they are Korean and tend to have more mercy on the troubled youth.
There are two vids by Koreans that explain the song that you can find easily as the Korean subtext can get lost.
It helps if you know what "n-po generation" means (wikipedia has an article) as they even play with that in "Dope".
Personally it helps when you watch *bby* *gang* *mag* 's video essays and *"The* *Rise* *of* *Bangtan"* -series (the first few episodes have a lot of broad context before getting into a few details before getting closer to each members etc. the vids are thematic and the first few are a bit on the rougher side for some because it works with contrasts while never outright saying that this is a contrast. There is also a lot of music in it and the bonus is funny.
Korea has the idea of "Flower Boys" that Idol music leans into. It's a throwback at the Hwarang among other themes.
(why are there so many cuts?! there are mssing pieces)
    You nice! Keep going!

Would be very interested in seeing a Spring Day reaction (followed by an explanation video…it’s def needed to really understand the imagery in the mv). There’s several explanation vids but the “Italian ARMY” one is the most in depth I’ve seen so far.

The average korean man is nothing like the idols you see. I also wouldnt say feminine men are the beauty standard, most of them actually try not to come across too feminine since homophobia is rampant there. While the women will name an idol as their ideal type, men will name an actor like gong-yoo that has a manly image as someone theyd like to look like

    • @mplahke
      @mplahke 3 місяці тому

But Gong Yoo totally fits Korean beauty standard for men, he commented about it to Lee Dong Wook when latter asked him to flex. "small face" was the first thing he said, and it's first in the list. Small face, narrow and high-bridged nose, double eyelid, "doe"(as in deer) eyes, straight eyebrows, full lips, v-shaped lower face and chin, chiseled jaw line, slender body (ie, not fat). You look at the young Gong Yoo, you saw a slender young man--it wasn't until he pumped up for the Calvin Klein ad that you saw how absolutely ripped he was--it was all definition, no bulky muscles.

He's also the most acknowledged dancer in the group, and his singing voice is like velvet. Anyway, I must say all members are amazing, so please take the time to get to know each of them with an open heart."

No, a lot of the songs in school era were very political for South Korea's society lol

  • @geekyreader34
    @geekyreader34 8 місяців тому

In South Korea it’s not something talked about openly. In South Korea BTS members especially the rap line didn’t fit Korean beauty standards. RM was called ugly and j Hope was called ugly and untalented. BTS got no support from the k pop community. They were in a small music label who had no money to remote BTS. So BTS promoted themselves. They were allowed to create music because Suga , Rm and j Hope wanted to make their own music. And the CEO told them that they could as long as they spoke their own truth an stories. BTS as opposed to many k pop groups, write, compose, produce and have a say in every aspect of their music , music video ideas and concepts to even their style of clothing. They all have A lot of stocks in their company and built their lab BIG HIT into BIG HIT MUSIC and helped build the corporation HYBE. These are not things most k pop groups were allowed or are still not allowed to do. So I know technically BTS is considered k pop, I just consider them amazing musicians and artists. I too am a metal fan

"Is J-Hope the darker person in the group?" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I laughed so hard when you said that. J-hope is our sunshine and the member of the group that stand for HOPE. But he actually is more than just that. He has a darker side, which he wasn't able to fully realize until he had his solo debut in 2022. I embrace all sides of J-hope.
