So I came across my scorpion having babies on her back. Never expected her to have babies this early - She didn’t even look gravid! But it is what it is and now we have baby scorpions. Let’s hope she doesn’t eat all of the babies.
If you’re asking why I don’t take out the babies; It’s because the time you separate the babies from the mom is when the babies come off their mom’s back by themselves. That’s when they’re ready to be separated.

Ya don't mess with mama scorpion 💪🏾🦂
8:04 is where the eating starts
Scorpions actually really enjoy eating baby scorpions, a mother with babies especially, if baby crawls off mother she will automatically eat it. One way to stop this is feeding her, if she isn't hungry she will be less likely to eat her babies but unfortunately they are cannibalistic in this regard and all scorpions absolutely love dining on baby scorpions. I would just keep her well fed and maybe try getting babies in their own enclosures. But this is quite normal, she was hungry.
Thanks for the fact
No. It's not at all normal for a female with offspring, unless malformed youngs. It's instead quite probable if a female is stressed, without a good shelter or with unsuitable parameters.
I'm leaning towards stress
It is normal actually. Its also a possibility that the babies will eat their mother.
Thanks you for the facts and wow you relly know your stuff
She took spawn killing to a whole other level

And that is a true thing
4:57 "as you can see this is my death stalker... quite fat"
Death Stalker: Stop body shaming me!!! 🥺
I don't body sham anyone at all
So don't worry I am not trying to body sham at all ok
They will NEVER go extinct… mother proceeds to eat her spawn.
It's normal for a scorpion to actually eat their babies! That is why the babies are always on the mommas back
food store lol
mommas inside
LMAOO
It's only normal if the scorpion doesn't have another source of food..
yeah, where else would you store ur food besides the backpack
Mother " my babies are so sweet I could just eat them all "
Babies " aww that a nice saying mum
Mother:🤤
Babies " it's just a saying, right?"😨
Actually, that's the opposite, parthenogenic species are more susceptible to go extinct because of the lack of genetic diversity.
I had to scroll too far down to find this comment. It deserves more likes.
Yes they will lack the new genetic code that will survive in wild because of it well beside they can keep reproduce without their pair
But it's also the most common in form of asexual reproduction.
Exactly!

@@jjs8426 Obviously. That’s why scorpions are born with so many feet. Gives her some spare in case times get tough🤦🏻♀️
I found that too but knowing the owner, he likely fed her enough, so nah. In many species of insects, it is very common the mom would eat the weak babies and only nurture the strong. So that is likely this.

I love how ironic it is that he says you should get these scorpions because they arent gonna eat anyone and then they ate their babies 😂
The way he waves his hands around near the t's, I'm surprised he doesn't get bit more often.
He doesn't get bit bc he's not that close to them. It looks closer than it is on the camera. But his hand actually isn't that close to them.
Exactly😑
Maybe he buys neosporin as much as he gets new tarantulas!
T's dont rlly attack air-movement unless its rlly an insect. a hand moves too much air so the T is more cautious than attack-ready. compare it like exoticlairs hand is the size of a full blown tree and an insect is the size of a big dog. when a tree falls you MOVE and when a big dog attacks you -you BETTER be ready. not a perfect comparison but i think its clear :]
@@-iceraptor- It's not that his hand is close to them. I have 20 t's and moving quickly and relatively close gets them on guard and even pisses off a few. That makes them harder to work with. Why piss of your spiders? I want happy, healthy guys who are as laid back as they can possibly be.

Exoticlair: OH NO
Yes my striped bark scorpion ate all her babies ! Stress is usually the situation they don't like to be disturbed when they have babies . I did not know this when I 1st encountered . Most likely my fault
As with the animals that reproduce like that, the babies are pretty much "clones" of the mother and share her genotype and are also female.
I know scorpions will often eat their young, or the young of other scorpions.
Did a little reading on this species, and I found some saying that "when kept in a group cannibalism will most likely happen, especially during molts."
It did look like there were tiny molts on the sand.
btw if anyone's wondering, the process of giving birth without a mate i.e. self fertilization is called parthenogenesis! the term can be used interchangeably with asexual in this case too
Probably nobody is wondering because he said it in the video.....

I thought, when a scorpion has babies, they need to remain on her back until they've grown enough for them to go it alone. But if at any point any of them leave her back, they're no longer her babies & fair game.

Scorpion mother be like "Don't look at me now! don't judge me!"
A female scorpion or in this case shim (sh-e hi-m) will only eat it’s young when either stressed or after birthing if food is hard to come by she will try and recover some of that protean she just lost making those little Scorpio’s or if she’s has been injured. On this one I’m going to go with stressed but they should be kept well fed when she has baby Scorpions to reduce the chances of her eating her young and also disturbances like moving them around or showing them off under bright lights to a camera - those sort of things should be kept to a minimum. This was probably caused by the owner.
Imagine creating your own food supply. Scorpions are savage.
That's scorpions for you. I had an Emperor that did the same thing once. Unfortunate because I wanted to save the little ones to feed and house, it's reality though. Currently I only have one scorpion. Just a basic desert scorpion, but it's massive. Largest I've ever seen in person. Great specimen.
Once the scorpion slings leave the mom's back, they are considered fair game to the mom, because scorpions aren't exactly the brightest things on earth. They're not tarantulas, who will care for their young for a bit.
I know it will stress her/him, but ts there a way to secure her tail, brush the babies off with a soft haired paint brush & scoop them up into sling enclosures? I would feed mom first to get her in a better mood. Seems the best way to save them is separate them as gently & quickly as possible.

I bought 10 bark scorpions and put them in a 10 gallon tank. A ton of hiding spaces. I end up with around 1,000 in the 2 years that I owned them. No canabalism at all. They where crawling all over each other. I did feed them heavy.
I missed xena she is so cazy and cute and I love it 😍
Scorpions will eat young due to stress or extreme hunger postpartum. Can’t really blame the owner if they didn’t know about the babies prior to birth, but it’s usually better to prepare a little extra food and make sure their tank is comfortable for after the scorpion gives birth.
Please focus about what you want to say in your video. It‘s hard to listen if you repeat yourself a lot of times and take a lot of time to explain a certain thing which could easily be described in 2 sentences.

"Mother scorpions will sometimes be faced with a dilemma when they aren’t capable of finding enough resources. Under normal circumstances, a mother scorpion will be able to find enough food to eat and everything will be fine while it is carrying its babies.
However, a mother scorpion that isn’t able to find enough food might have to make some tough choices. Sometimes mother scorpions will eat the baby scorpions when they don’t have enough food to survive."
and also something about that if she senses that the baby is sick and falls of her back, she eats them.
A lot of species, after giving birth, can eat their babies - it could be out of stress of being on display, with you waving your arms, moving the enclosure and pointing camera at it. Be careful with that, man! Hope some of the babies survived, peace & love
His spasmodic hand waving, running back & forth to look at the dog, tapping on & moving all around her tank & under bright light probably raised her stress level quite a bit. It looks like he left her under the bright lights until he started filming again the next day. I'm not saying she wouldn't have eaten any of her babies, but stressing her like that couldn't have helped.
1 thing for sure… they don’t require a mate, another scorpion, it only takes 1, 2 is a crowd, riding solo, me against the world, it’s lonely at the top, 1 is the loneliness number, all by myself, oh and it only takes 1 scorpion lol

Babies: *exist*
Mamma scorpion:you have chosen... DEATH!!!
The mother ate the baby because it probably fell off her back, and the mother doesn't recognize it as her own baby
When they are born, baby scorpions have a very soft outside shell, or exoskeleton. They crawl up onto their mother's back and ride there for 10 to 20 days until their exoskeleton gets stiff and hard. ... Sometimes when the mother scorpion cannot find enough insects, bugs, or grub worms to eat, she will eat her own babies.
Some snakes can reproduce without a mate but the offspring generally don’t survive or have several neurological issues. But sometimes they can produce normal young that way.
Ok am i the only one that died when he was explaining inbreeding🤦😂
Then who wrote this if you died?
i saw someone say they enjoy this which is untrue, scorpions only do this if they cannot find enough insects and thus sacrifice the babies as a last resort
Imagine if something happens and all the inclosures cracked open 😖

I know he said that with the scorpions there's no inbreeding but with parthogenesis there can be what is considered inbreeding. Yes they are able to have babies without mating, but with parthogenesis it's basically them cloning themselves, so the babies are a clone of the mother
Cloning doesn't cause the damage of inbreeding though
Still it's not sustainable long-term
Whenever a parasite mutates and gets an advantage over a certain individual, suddenly everyone else is vulnerable because they're all the same unlike sexual and therefore genetically diverse populations
This eternal fight between hosts and parasites is the main reason why sexual reproduction came to be and still goes on.
It's a very nice way to keep shuffling the genetics of your species and keep any would-be "hacker" on their toes
While she was eating her babies I’m sure she was saying “this hurts me more than it hurts you.” 😂 typical.

Scorpions, like rabbits and a few other animals, eat their children when stressed or left alone for too long with them. It is not uncommon in the wild. The best thing to do would be to put and care for the babies in a separate enclosure. Hope this helps.
