- Voters join long queues to cast their ballots during a landmark local election in Somalia's semi-autonomous state of Puntland -- their first direct ballot in more than half a century. They are the first one-person one-vote elections since 1969 when dictator Siad Barre seized power.

Puntland was safe the last 24 years no issue, there was an election every 5 years , but this election is historic because it is one man one vote, puntland was safe region , victory to puntland a d the rest of Somalia who will soon follow the footsteps of puntland
It is sad that the Federal Republic of Somalia's president and prime minister both did their best to undermine this sterling progress by Puntland government. I hope both will apologise for what they said negatively about conducting these local elections.

FYI,Northern region of somalia, especially , somaliland & puntland was always peace region since the collapse of Central gov't. So don't Confuse with south & central somali, which was lawless & govern by warlords & still control mostly(70%) by Alshabab.
